ABSTRACT

The outbreak and spread of novel coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)with pandemic features, which is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2),have greatly threatened global public health.Given the perniciousness of COVID-19 pandemic, acquiring a deeper understanding of this viral illness is critical for the development of new vaccines and therapeutic options. In this review,we introduce the systematic evolution of coronaviruses and the structural characteristics of SARS-CoV-2.We also summarize the current diagnostic tools and therapeutic strategies for COVID-19.

ABSTRACT

Heteroatom-doped carbon dots (CDs) have attracted extensive interest because of their improved elec-tronic and fluorescence properties with heteroatom doping. In this study, a new synthetic method for nitrogen (N) and sulfur (S) -doped CDs was developed via a hydrothermal method using methionine and citric acid as raw materials. The as-prepared CDs exhibit excellent optical properties and good bio-compatibility. The spherical N,S-doped CDs have an average diameter of 5 nm. They consist of C, O, N and S, and take on excellent water solubility due to the hydroxyl and carboxyl, amino groups on the surface. The CDs have a photoluminescence quantum yield of 13.8% using quinine sulfate as a reference; the average fluorescence lifetime of the CDs was 3.67 ns. The CDs solution present good photoluminescence properties, and the maximum excitation wavelength and emission wavelength locate at 330 nm and 405 nm, respectively. In addition, their fluorescence intensity almost does not change under the condi-tions of acid, alkali, and high salt, which indicated their anti-photobleaching property and good light stability. Based on the good biocompatibility and strong fluorescence emission of the CDs, they can be used as fluorescent imaging reagents.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the clinical effect of enhanced recovery after surgery and pain management during the perioperative period in rectal cancer patients.Methods 100 rectal cancer patients after radical resection were divided into ERAS group (50 cases) and routine care group (50 cases).Results Compare with the routine group,the time of ERAS group was shorter in postoperative bowel function recovery [(1.8 ± 0.6) d vs.(3.4 ± 0.6) d,t =-8.1,P < 0.001],oral feeding [(1.3 ± 0.6) d vs.(3.2 ± 0.6) d,t =-10.1,P < 0.001],intraperitoneal catheter drain [(3.6 ± 0.7) d vs.(5.3 ±0.8) d,t=-6.7,P<0.001] and mobilization[(1.1 ±0.3)d vs.(2.7 ±0.5) d,t=-12.7,P<0.001].ERAS group was associated with shorter hospital stay [(4.6 ± 0.6) d vs.(6.1 ± 0.6) d,t =-7.7,P < 0.001],lower costs (P =0.014),lower pain score at the time of 6 h,12 h,24 h and 48 h after surgery (P <0.001).There was no significant statistical difference in postoperative complication rate 8% and 10% (P =1.000).Conclusions ERAS management in rectal cancer patients after radical operation enhanced postoperative recovery.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE To investigate the distribution features and clinical significance of allergens in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis(CRS). METHODS A retrospective analysis was performed in 136 cases of CRS. Allergen features were compared in the two subtypes of CRS: chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps(CRSwNP) and chronic rhinosinusitis without nasal polyps(CRSsNP). Differences of allergens features of CRS were analyzed, and they were compared to the allergens of 36 patients with allergic rhinitis(AR). RESULTS The total allergen positive rate in CRS was 48.5%. The allergen positive rate, distribution proportion of inhaled and food allergens, distribution proportion of allergens subsets, distribution proportion of single and multiple allergens between two subtypes of CRS had no significant difference(P >0.05). The major allergens of CRS were single inhaled allergens(84.8%). Some CRS patients were allergic to food allergen(9.1%). The minority allergens of CRS were a mixture of inhaled and food allergens(6.1%). Compared to AR, the distribution proportion of inhaled and food allergens(χ2=14.801, P =0.001), the distribution proportion of allergens subsets(χ2=12.951, P=0.005), and the distribution proportion of single and multiple allergens(χ2=9.067, P=0.003) had significant difference. CONCLUSION The allergen positive rate of CRS is much higher than the prevalence of allergic diseases in general population, suggesting that allergic factors may be closely correlated to the pathogenesis of CRS. The clinical features of allergens are similar in the two subtypes of CRS, while there are significant differences in allergen distribution between CRS and AR patients. The detection of allergens may be helpful in prevention and treatment of CRS.

ABSTRACT

Allergic airway inflammation (AAI) is a pathophysiological process, which is characterized by airway hyperreactivity (AHR), airway inflammation, mucus secretion and airway remodeling. The establishment of animal model is an important method to study the pathophysiological mechanism of AAI.With the development of biotechnology, animal model of AAI has been developed rapidly. In this paper, the research progress of AAI animal model in recent years is reviewed.

ABSTRACT

We established a sensitive method for the detection of lead ions in aqueous solution based on the surface energy transfer between gold nanoparticles and fluorescent dyes. The fluorescein-modified thrombin aptamer (5′-FAM-GGT TGG TGT GGT TGG-3′) can be selectively transformed to G-quadruplex induced by lead ions. The conformation changes of the aptamer can alter the distance between the energy donor of fluorescent dyes and the energy receptor of gold nanoparticles, and further enhance the fluorescence intensity. The fluorescence recovery efficiency ( F/F0 ) is proportional to the concentration of lead ions in the range of 12. 5-100 nmol/L following the linear regression equation of y=0. 910﹢0. 007c(R2=0. 997)and the limit of determination is about 10 nmol/L. The proposed method has been applied to the determination of lead ions in tap water with satisfied results.

ABSTRACT

In this study, a spectrophotometric detection method for diethylstilbestrol (DES) was proposed by reducing silver nitrate (AgNO3) to obtain silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) in the medium of ammonia and sodium hydroxide. It was found that the resulting AgNPs have plasmon resonance absorption (PRA) characteristic at 415 nm, and the PRA is proportional to the increase of DES concentration in the range of 4.0×10-8-1.0×10-5M with the detection limit (3σ) of 1.2×10-7M. Most of the coexisting substances at high concentrations did not affect the detection of real samples, such as tablets. The recovery was in the range of 96.01%-107.41% and the RSD was lower than 4.7%. This method can be successfully applied to control preparation quality of DES.
