ABSTRACT

It is well known that M. leprae involves peripheral nerves, but it is a few known that M. leprae involves craninal nerves. I experienced one case of relapsed leprosy accompanied by multiple cranial nerve palsies. Revealed symptoms are to involve trigeminal nerve (V). facial nerve (VII), vestibular nerve (VIII), glossopharyngeal nerve (IX), vagus nerve (X). It is not effect to treat with corticosteroid, but is good effect to treat with MDT(multiple drug therapy)

ABSTRACT

We had given the Anti-PGL-1 ELISA test to the 235 leprosy patients in our Hospital from July 1999 to Aug 2000. There are 48 patients(20.4%) who are over 200 PGL-1 Ab score and 11 patients(4.7%) who are over 500. The patients who are over 500 of PGL-1 Ab score are all lepromatous leprosy and they have been treated from 5 to 49 years. Two patients among them are positive patients and 9 patients are to be observed only I think that they need to be followed up and if the score of Ab has incresed. We suspect that those patients will become active.

ABSTRACT

We report a case who has been diagnosed as lipodytrophia centrifugalis abdomialis juvenilis. The patient was a 9 year-old girl. At the age of 4 years, these well-defined, depressed lesions appeared in both ing-uinal areas and gradually spread to the labia major, the abdomen and both flank areas and, by 9 years, had reached lower portion of the chest. Biopsy specimen from the depressed lesion showed absence of the subcutsneous fat. The epidermal appendage were well preserved. There were lympho-histiocytic infiltrations around the blood vessels in the upper dermis.

ABSTRACT

The number of non-specific urethritis(NSU) is exceeding more and more that of Gonorrhea in developed nations and sorne of the developing countries especially in our country. Chlamydia trachomatis and Ureaplasma urealyticum, which are the most suspected etiologic agents of NSU, are sensitive to either tetracycline or erythromycin. We compared the effect of oral tetracycline to erythromycin in the treatment of male NSU. The subjects were 524 male patients with NSU at the VD clinic of the Choong Ku Public Health Center in Seoul during 16 months period from January 1980 to April 1981, The diagnostic criterial of NSU were; 1) Five or PMN/HPF in Gram-stained smears of urethral dischage of centrifuged sediment of urine, 2) no Gram-negative intracellular diplococci in Gram stained smears of urethral discharge, 3) no growth of Neisseria gonorrheae in Thayer-Martin media, 4) no Trichomonas vaginalis or Candida albicans in centrifuged sediment of urine.

ABSTRACT

One hundred and eight cases who had Sr(90) irradiation in preventing pterygium recurrence were studied. The average follow up period in this series was more than one year and maximum of 3 years. The following results were obtained. 1. Three pterygium recurrences out of 11 cases (27.3%) were found in group of 1200 rads and one out of 9 (11%) in 1800 rads group. These recurrent cases did not have enough amount of irradition due to patient's conditions. No pterygium recurrences were observed in 88 cases of 2400, 3000, 3600, and 4200 rads groups. We think that the amount of post irradiation for prevnting recurrence is more than 2400 rads. Subacute reaction of post irradiation occurred in 3000, 3600, and 4200 rads groups; 7 cases out of 76 cases (9.2%). Our cases have not been followed long enough to rule out late complications, especially radiation cataract and telangiectasis of conjunctival vessels. No late complications, however, have been found up to three years after Sr(90) irradiatron. 3. Post irradiative medication of hydrocortisone eye drops (0.5% qid) was continued from immediately after irradiation to 3 days after last irradiation. The application of hydrocortisone eye drops seems to decrease the rate, mitigate the symptoms, and shorten the duration of treatment of transient and subacute reactions.
