ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the influencing factors of the organizational commitment of psychiatric nurses in a city. Methods 412 psychiatric nurses from three mental health institutions in Jinan adopted the method of cluster sampling were investigated by organizational commitment scale. Results The sore of the organizational commitment of 395 psychiatric nurses was(60.51±10.50)points. There was statistical difference of the score of organizational commitment of psychiatric nurses on different position(t=3.194, P=0.002), work shift(t=4.614, P=0.000), parents or not(t=2.067, P=0.039), suffered verbal aggression(VA) or not(t=-2.950, P=0.003). There was a positive correlation between age and the score of psychiatric nurses′organizational commitment(r=0.113, P=0.025), and a negative correlation between the frequency of verbal aggression and the score of psychiatric nurses′organizational commitment (r=-0.109, P=0.030). The score of psychiatric nurses′normative commitment was negatively correlated with educational degree(r=-0.119, P=0.018) and the frequency of verbal aggression(r=-0.102, P=0.042). The score of psychiatric nurses′continuance commitment was positively correlated with age(r=0.188, P=0.000),working years(r=0.190, P=0.000), educational degree (r=0.119, P=0.018)and work income (r=0.119, P=0.018), negatively correlated with title (r=-0.189, P=0.000) ,employment forms (r=-0.181, P=0.000)and hospital level(r=-0.108, P=0.033). The score of psychiatric nurses′affective commitment was negatively correlated with educational degree(r=-0.107, P=0.034),the frequency of verbal aggression (r=-0.188, P=0.000)and physical assault(PA) (r=-0.101, P=0.045). Conclusions The level of psychiatric nurses′organizational commitment was correlated with personal factors, family factors, work factors, VA and PA.
