ABSTRACT

Objective: To explore the distribution characteristics of S100B gene rsl051169 G/C and rs9984765 T/C polymorphisms in Guangxi population, and to compare the distribution differences among different races and districts population. Methods: Polymerase chain reaction-single base extension (SBE-PCR) and DNA sequencing were used to detect the genotype of rslOSl 169 G/C and rs9984765 T/C among 398 individuals in Guangxi. The results were compared with the allele and genotype of other four populations (HapMap-CEU, HapMap-YRI, HapMap-JPT, HapMap-HCB) from Haplotype Map(Hap Map). Results: There were GG, CG and CC genotypes at the rs 1051169 G/C of S100B gene in Guangxi population, with frequencies of 41.2%, 44.7% and 14. 1%, respectively, and G and C allele frequencies were 63.6% and 36.4%, respectively. TT, CT and CC genotypes were found at rs9984765 T/C, with frequencies of 47. 7%, 44.5% and 7. 8%.respectively, and allele frequencies of T and C were 70.0% and 30. 0%, respectively. There were no significant differences in genotype and allele frequencies of rsl051169 G/C and rs9984765 T/C among male and female in Guangxi population (P>0. 05). The genotype and allele frequency of rs 1051169 G/C in Guangxi population showed significant difference as compared with HapMap-CEU, HapMap-YRI and HapMap-JPT (P0. 05). The genotype and allele frequency of rs9984765 T/C in Guangxi population showed significant difference as compared with HapMap-YRI, HapMap- JPT and HapMap-HBC (1 0. 05). Conclusion: The polymorphisms of rs 1051169 G/C and rs9984765 T/C in S100B gene in Guangxi populations, and their polymorphisms are different from different races and district populations.

ABSTRACT

BackgroundThe interpretation of spirometry varies on different reference values. Older people are usually underrepresented in published predictive values. This study aimed at developing spirometric reference equations for elderly Chinese in Jinan aged 60-84 years and to compare them to previous equations.

MethodsThe project covered all of Jinan city, and the recruitment period lasted 9 months from January 1, 2017 to September 30, 2017, 434 healthy people aged 60-84 years who had never smoked (226 females and 208 males) were recruited to undergo spirometry. Vital capacity (VC), forced VC (FVC), forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV), FEV/FVC, FEV/VC, FEV, peak expiratory flow, and forced expiratory flow at 25%, 50%, 75%, and 25-75% of FVC exhaled (FEF, FEF, FEF, and FEF) were analyzed. Reference equations for mean and the lower limit of normal (LLN) were derived using the lambda-mu-sigma method. Comparisons between new and previous equations were performed by paired t-test.

ResultsNew reference equations were developed from the sample. The LLN of FEV/FVC, FEFcomputed using the 2012-Global Lung Function Initiative (GLI) and 2006-Hong Kong equations were both lower than the new equations. The biggest degree of difference for FEV/FVC was 19% (70.46% vs. 59.29%, t = 33.954, P < 0.01) and for maximal midexpiratory flow (MMEF, equals to FEF) was 22% (0.82 vs. 0.67, t = 21.303, P < 0.01). The 1990-North China and 2009-North China equations predicted higher mean values of FEV/FVC and FEFthan the present model. The biggest degrees of difference were -4% (78.31% vs. 81.27%, t = -85.359, P < 0.01) and -60% (2.11 vs. 4.68, t = -170.287, P < 0.01), respectively.

ConclusionsThe newly developed spirometric reference equations are applicable to elderly Chinese in Jinan. The 2012-GLI and 2006-Hong Kong equations may lead to missed diagnoses of obstructive ventilatory defects and the small airway dysfunction, while traditional linear equations for all ages may lead to overdiagnosis.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo analyse sonographical features of epididymis tuberculosis with caseous necrosis and improve the accuracy of ultrasonic diagnosis.

METHODSUltrasonic features of 12 cases with epididymis tuberculosis with caseous necrosis, confirmed by surgical pathology, was retrospectively analysed: size, location, echogenicity, degree of blood flow in the lesion.

RESULTSIn all 12 patients, the number of purified protein derivative test (PPD) presenting the positive reached to 67%, while cases with the pulmonary tuberculosis was 42%. The epididymal tuberculosis with caseous necrosis could present images of the whole or focal epididymal enlargement and abnormal shape. The lesions internal echoes were irregular, inhomogeneous increased isoechoic echogenicity or hypoechoic, including bad-defined, irregular, homogeneous hypoechoic or anechoic. In lesional location, 4 out of 12 patients (33%) possessed richly color blood flow in Color Doppler Power Imaging(CDPI). The testicular enlargement with increased internal echoes and the testicular hydroceles were partly (58%, 7/12) observed by ultrasound. There was no varicocele, scrotal wall thickening and inguinal lymph node enlargement.

CONCLUSIONThe High Frequency Color Doppler images is helpful for the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of epididymis tuberculosis with caseous necrosis.

ABSTRACT

Objective In order to improve the understanding of Kimura's disease, the clinical features and the pathological changes of 12 patients were analyzed. Methods Twelve cases with Kimura's disease ad- mitted to Qilu Hospital of Shandong University were retrospectively reviewed. Results All 12 patients were in relatively good condition and presented as subcutaneous nodules or swelling lymph nodes.Peripheral blood eosinophilia did not occur in 5 cases,4 out of 6 patients had high-level serum IgE.Biopsies were taken in all cases and the characteristic histological presentations were discovered.Only one patient developed pulmonary inflammation and acute myocardial infarction which were rare in Kimura's disease. Conclusions Definite di- agnosis of Kimura's disease mainly relies on biopsy.A patient with Kimura's disease can suffer from severe pulmonary and cardiac diseases, but the relationship between them should be studied further.
