ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo study the effect of extensively hydrolyzed formula on the growth and development in very low birth weight (VLBW) and extremely low birth weight (ELBW) infants.

METHODSA total of 375 VLBW or ELBW infants were enrolled and divided into an observation group (187 infants) and a control group (188 infants) using a random number table. The infants in the observation group were given extensively hydrolyzed formula, and when the amount of extensively hydrolyzed formula reached 10 mL/time, it was changed to the standard formula for preterm infants. The infants in the control group were given standard formula for preterm infants. Both groups were fed for 4 consecutive weeks and were compared in terms of incidence rate of feeding intolerance, time to establish full enteral feeding, time to complete meconium excretion, number of spontaneous bowel movements, growth and development, motilin level at 4 and 10 days after feeding, and incidence rate of infection.

RESULTSCompared with the control group, the observation group had a lower rate of feeding intolerance (P<0.05), a shorter duration to full enteral feeding and time to complete meconium excretion (P<0.05), a higher mean number of daily spontaneous bowel movements (P<0.05), higher body weight (1 793±317 g vs 1 621±138 g; P<0.05), head circumference (30.5±1.1 cm vs 30.0±1.6 cm; P<0.05), and body length (43.9±1.2 cm vs 42.1±2.0 cm; P<0.05), a higher motilin level at 4 and 10 days after feeding (P<0.05), and a significantly lower infection rate (P<0.05).

CONCLUSIONSExtensively hydrolyzed formula can increase motilin level, improve gastrointestinal feeding tolerance, promote early growth and development, and reduce the incidence of infection in VLBW and ELBW infants.

ABSTRACT

Objective To optimize the culture conditions of MRC -5 human diploid cell. Methods To compare the growth status of MRC -5 cells, three kinds of culture medium with T25 bottles and Spinner cultivation system Cytodex1 micro carrier were used.Morphology, cell counting, growth curve, glucose -lactic acid value were observed and detected daily for screening a kind of suitable medium.Cell proliferation was compared with different levels of the bovine serum. Results There were no significant differences among the three kinds of culture medium. There were significant differences among MEM((43.25 ±0.60)×104 cells/mL,(12.98 ±1.27)×105 cells /mL),M199 ((35.40 ±1.41 )×104 cells/mL, (10.76 ±1.31)×105 cells /mL)and DMEM/F12 ((36.75 ±1.59)×104 cells/mL,(11.22 ±1.42)×105 cells /mL)(P<0.01).The cell proliferation of MEM cultures was 5.17 and 6.49 times better than those of M199 and DMEM/F12 cultures.Imported fetal bovine serum cell proliferation ((4.55 ±0.51)×105 cells /mL)was better than the other three bovine serum ((4.12 ±1.03,3.59 ±0.48,3.53 ±0.52)×105 cells /mL).Conclusion Tree kinds of culture medium can be used to culture MRC -5 human diploid cell. The MEMculture is better.Imported fetal bovine serum is better than other kinds of serum.

ABSTRACT

Objective To obtain the elasticity value of solid breast lesions with supersonic shear wave elastrography (SWE) and apply the binary Logistic regression in order to evaluate the value of SWE in differential diagnosis of benign and malignant breast lesions. Methods SWE quantitative elastography was preformed in 91 breast lesions of 91 patients in Zhenghai Longsai Hospital to obtain the maximum and mean elasticity value (Emax, Emean). And receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to assess the diagnostic performance. A Logistic regression for the gray scale ultrasound and the elastic modulus was conducted with multiple variables including Emax, Emean, border, echo, form, calcification. Results Pathological examination showed 73 benign lesions and 18 malignant lesions. Emax and Emean of malignant lesions were obviously higher than those of benign lesions [(99.73±41.15) kPa vs (38.59±14.28) kPa, (61.45±24.88) kPa vs (23.46±11.44) kPa, t=-15.05,-14.12, both P=0.000]. The area under the ROC curve of Emax and Emean were 0.932 and 0.915. Taking 63.70 kPa as the threshold of Emax, the sensitivity was 77.8%and the speciifcity was 97.3%. Then taking 44.22 kPa as the threshold of Emean, the sensitivity was 83.3%and the speciifcity was 94.5%. The results of Logistic regression analysis showed:the 3 most effective variables were Emax, border of the lesions and Emean. Conclusions The multivariate analysis model of binary Logistic regression can select the valuable indexes of differential diagnosis of benign and malignant breast lesions. SWE plays an important role in differentiating benign and malignant lesions and it is valuable in clinical practice.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the expression and significance of p53 and p21_(WAF1)proteins in hep- atocellular carcinoma(HCC).Methods Immunohistochemical(S-P)method was used to detect the expression of p53 and p21~(WAF1)proteins in the 41 patients with HCC and 30 cases of paracancerous tissues. Results The positive rates of p53 and p21~(WAF1)proteins were 43.9 % and 75.6 % respectively. The expression of the proteins was significantly higher in tumor than that in corresponding paracancerous tissue(P0.05). p53 ex- pression showed significant difference in different pathologic grades and cases with or without intrahepatic metastasis and thrombus in the portal veins(P
