ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the efficacy of Ambu AuraOnce laryngeal mask airway (LMA) in Chinese patients undergoing general anesthesia. Methods Fifty-six female patients, aged 20-64 yr, weighing 45-75 kg, of American Society of Anesthesiology physical status Ⅰ or Ⅱ (Mallampati Ⅰ-Ⅲ), scheduled for elective breast surgery under general anesthesia, were equally and randomly divided into either Ambu AuraOnce LMA group (group A) or LMA Supreme group (group S) using a random number table. After induction of anesthesia, Ambu AuraOnce LMA was inserted in group A, and LMA Supreme was placed in group S.After successful placement of LMA, correct position was confirmed by fiberoptic laryngoscopy.Intermittent positive pressure ventilation was performed during surgery to maintain pulse oxygen saturation > 95% and partial pressure of end-tidal CO2 at 30-45 mmHg.The success rate, insertion time, extubation time, airway sealing pressure, peak airway pressure and occurrence of air leakage of LMA were recorded. After removal of the LMA, the blood stains on the LMA were checked, and the occurrence of hypoxemia, regurgitation, nausea, vomiting and bucking was recorded. The occurrence of sore throat, hoarseness and dysphagia was also recorded within 24 h after surgery. Results There were no significant differences in terms of insertion time, overall success rate, success rate at first attempt, removal of LMA time, airway sealing pressure, and incidence of air leakage of LMA, hypoxemia, blood stains on the LMA, sore throat, hoarseness and dysphagia between the two groups. The rate for correct position of LMA confirmed by fiberoptic laryngoscopy was significantly higher in group A than in group S.Conclusion Ambu AuraOnce LMA can safely and effectively be applied for airway management in Chinese patients undergoing general anesthesia.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the synergistic antitumor effect of PCF when combine used with CTX.Methods Inoculated 0.2 mL H22 tumor fluid into the right armpit of mouse, and then the animals were divided into seven groups randomly: control group;CTX group(CTX 10 mg?kg-1);three test group(PCF 1000,500 and 250 mg?kg-1) and two combined use groups (PCF 1000,500 mg?kg-1with CTX 10 mg?kg-1).PCF were given by intragastric administration for 10 days, and CTX by intraperitoneal injection for 10 days.Same volume of saline was given to the control group. The mice were killed 24 hours after the last medication and the tumor inhibition rate was calculated. Results Three PCF groups had no effect on tumor inhibition, while two combined treatusement groups showed significant effect on tumor inhibition, while at the same doses the tumor inhibition rates were raised to 55.9% and 52.9% respectively, which were higher than that of CTX when used alone. Conclusion PCF can enhance the antitumor effects of CTX.

ABSTRACT

To study the protective effects of PCF on thymocytes in the mice damaged by ultraviolet ray in vitro,The irradiation damage model of thymocytes was established. The indices of GSH-Px,SOD,MDA,T-AOC and the cell viability were determined by biochemical and MTT methods respectively. The mitochondria membrane potential was tested using flow cytometry(FCM).The results showed that PCF could enhance the activities of GSH-Px,SOD and increase the values of A-SAC and T-AOC in cells, while decrease the amounts of ROS,MDA. In addition,PCF could stabilize the mitochondria membrane potential. These results indicated that PCF had the protective effects on the thymocytes damage by UV irradiation,The mechanisms of the effects might be related to the elimination of oxygen free radical and increase of the activities of anti-oxidative enzymes in cells.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the antioxidative effect of polypeptide from Chlamys farreri (PCF) on HaCaT cells damaged by ultraviolet B (UVB). Methods HaCaT cells model established by UVB irradiation were randomly divided into seven groups. After pretreatment with different concentrations of PCF for 1 h, the cells were irradiated by UVB at a dose of 30mJ/cm~ 2, and followed further incubatiou for 18 h. Enzyme activities including superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), and catalase (CAT) were determined by biochemical methods. Total antioxidative capacity (T-AOC) and malondialdehyde (MDA) were also determined. Results PCF could enhance the activities of SOD, GSH-Px and CAT; increased T-AOC and inhibited MDA formation. Conclusion These results indicated that PCF exhibited protective effects on HaCaT cells irradiated by UVB owing to its antioxidative action.
