ABSTRACT

Objective:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of temporary loop ligation of the infrarenal abdominal aorta for control ofintraoperative blood loss in patients with pernicious placenta previa. Methods:We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 14 patients with pernicious placenta previa, who underwent temporary loop ligation of the infrarenal abdominal aorta for control of blood loss during cesarean section between July 2013 and December 2014.Results:Eight patients received conservative management to preserve the uterus and 6 patients underwent cesarean hysterectomy. The occlusion time of the abdominal aorta was (31.42±12.67) min.The average estimated intraoperative blood loss was (1 117.85±745.13) mL.The volume of packed red blood cell transfusion was (3.91±3.24) units, and the volume of fresh frozen plasma transfusion was (192.85± 156.71) mL.Post-operative histologic diagnosis revealed 6 cases of placenta percreta,4 of increta,3 of accreta and 1 non-creta.All patients experienced an uneventful postoperative recovery. Conclusion:In patients with pernicious placenta previa, temporary ligation of the infrarenal abdominal aorta provide a safe and effective means for controlling intraoperative hemorrhage during cesarean section.Additionally, the procedure may provide an opportunity to preserve fertility by avoiding a cesarean hysterectomy.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate the effect of nano-realgar on proliferation and apoptosis of cervical cancer cells.
@*METHODS@#Different cervical cancer cell lines (Caski/HPV16+, adeno carcinoma; Hela/HPV18+, squmous carcinoma; C33A/HPV-, adeno carcinoma) were incubated with nano-realgar at different concentrations (5, 10, 20, 40 mg/L) for different times (24, 48, 72, 96 h). The morphology was observed under phase contrast microscope. The cell viability and apoptosis were examined by MTT and flow cytometry, respectively.
@*RESULTS@#The inhibitory effect of nano-realgar on the proliferation of cervical cancer cells was in a dose-dependent manner, with a range of inhibitory rate from 9.02% to 49.06%. Taking the group (20 mg/L) for an example, the inhibitory rates for Caski, Hela and C33A were 39.15%, 36.17% and 30.56%, respectively. The results of flow cytometry showed that the nano-realgar induced apoptosis in a concentration-dependent manner, with a range of apoptosis rate from 19.29% to 99.54%. Also taking the group (20 mg/L) for an example, the apoptosis rates for Caski, Hela and C33A were (60.43 ± 2.88)%, (41.95 ± 3.01)% and (43.49 ± 2.19)%, respectively. High concentration of nano-realgar (20 or 40 mg/L) could induce block of Hela and Caski at G2/M stage.
@*CONCLUSION@#Nano-realgar can inhibit the proliferation of different cervical carcinoma cell lines and can induce the cell apoptosis. The inhibitory effect on cell proliferation is strongest for Caski, followed by Hela and C33A. It can also induce G2/M stage block on HPV positive cervical cancer cells at high enough concentration.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate the health safety of the offspring delivered following natural pregnancy after orthotopic fetal ovarian allotransplantation in rats.@*METHODS@#Any symptoms of spontaneous abortion during pregnancy and of any possible still birth and death of infant rats within 3 days after the delivery were observed and compared in 19 pregnant rats (the study group) after the orthotopic fetal ovarian allotransplantation and in another 10 pregnant rats (the control group). Forty offspring rats from each group were selected randomly. The mean weight at day 35 after the birth of offsprings was measured and compared. By routine G-banding technique, the karyotype was analyzed and the chromosomal number and structure were observed.@*RESULTS@#There was no spontaneous abortion, still birth, or death in the infants within 3 days after the birth in both groups. The body weight of offsprings at 35 days in both groups was (93.80 ± 4.93) g and (94.13 ± 4.53) g, respectively. There was no significant difference between the 2 groups (P> 0.05). The karyotype analysis indicated that the karyotype from both offspring groups was 42, XX or 42, XY. No chromosome abnormality (abnormal chromosomal number or abnormal chromosomal structure) was observed in both groups.@*CONCLUSION@#The health status of the offsprings of rats after orthotopic fetal ovarian allotransplantation is safe.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the relationships between the cystoid type and the sclerous type polycystic ovarian syndrome(PCOS). Methods We compared the similarities and differences between the two types of PCOS by blood sex hormone measuring, laparoscopy, pathomorphology and so on in 19 patients with cystoid type PCOS,26 with sclerous type PCOS and 10 controlled age-matched non-PCOS women. Results There was no remarkable difference in the sex hormone level between the two groups of PCOS.Compared with the patients with cystoid type PCOS,the patients with sclerous type PCOS had longer course of disease, thicker ovarian tunica albuginea, more collagen, and hyperplasia medulla and stroma. Conclusion The cystoid type PCOS could develop into the sclerous type PCOS when the disease progressed.
