ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the changes and diagnostic value of platelet's parameters in acute human brucellosis. Methods In this study, data of 58 patients with confirmed diagnosis of acute brucellosis (brucellosis group) in Ji'nan Central Hospital Affiliated to Shandong University from January 2014 to May 2017 and dataof58 healthy people (control group) were collected.Automatic blood analyzer was used to determine the platelet count (PLT),mean platelet volume (MPV),platelet distribution width (PDW),platelet deposited (PCT),and platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR),then the diagnostic value of platelet's parameters was calculated by receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC).Results Acute brucellosis patients had many symptoms:the most common symptoms were fever (89.66%,52/58),fatigue (56.90%,33/58),sweating (13.79%,8/58),joints and muscle pain (27.59%,16/58),cough (17.24%,10/58),headache (12.07%,7/58),abdominal pain (10.34%,6/58),lower back pain (25.86%,15/58),and urinary pain (6.90%,4/58).PLT and PCT in patients with acute brucellosis were increased compared with those of control group, but the difference was not statistically significant [(225.00 ± 52.88) × 109/L vs (211.31 ±90.30) × 109/L,(0.19 ± 0.09)% vs (0.18 ± 0.04)%,t =0.98,0.25,P > 0.05];there was significant difference in PLR between the two groups [136.35 ± 85.79 vs 101.87 ± 53.08,t =2.39,P < 0.05];MPV and PDW were significantly reduced in the brucellosis group than those in the control group [(8.45 ± 0.86) fl vs (9.23 ± 1.34) fl,(14.76 ±1.24)% vs (16.02 ± 0.41)%,t =3.99,6.93,P < 0.05].Through the ROC curve analysis,MPV,PDW and PLR AUC were 0.719,0.833,and 0.367,respectively.There was no correlation between MPV and PLT (r =-0.121,P >0.05);there was a negative correlation between MPV and PLR (r =-0.214,P < 0.05).Conclusion The platelet's parameters change abnormally, which have reference value for diagnosis of acute brucellosis.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To evaluate the effect of individualized scalp acupuncture base on location of brain function for motor dysfunction in stroke patients.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>A total of 180 patients were randomly assigned into an individualized scalp acupuncture (ISA) group, a conventional scalp acupuncture (CSA) group and a rehabilitation group, 60 cases in each one. In the ISA group, we stimulated Sishencong (EX-HN 1), motor area and balance area, matched with pre-motor area for higher muscle tension, application area and's three-needle for involuntary motion, application area for poor motor coordination, forehead five-needle for cognitive disorder, sensory area for sensory disturbance. In the CSA group, the affected Dingnieqianxiexian (MS 6), Dingniehouxiexian (MS 7) and Zhenxiapangxian (MS 14) were selected. Rehabilitation was used during needle retained in the two groups. Simple rehabilitation was used in the rehabilitation group. All the treatment was given from Monday to Friday for 4 weeks, once a day for 20 times. Eight-week follow-up was applied. The Fugl-Meyer assessment (FMA) for motor function, modified Barthel Index (MBI) were used to evaluate clinical effect.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>After treatment and at follow-up, FMA and MBI scores increased compared with those before treatment in the three groups(all<0.01), with significant differences among the three groups (all<0.000 1) and better results in the ISA group compared with those in the other two groups (<0.05,<0.01) at the two time points. The FMA and MBI scores in the CSA group were higher than those in the rehabilitation group after treatment and at follow-up (all<0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The individualized scalp acupuncture can improve motor dysfunction and self-care ability of daily life for stroke patients.</p>

ABSTRACT

Objective To examine the changes of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1) in gingival crevicular fluid after conventional mechanical therapy of adult patients with chronic periodontitis. Methods Gingival crevicular fluid samples from 15 patients and 15 healthy subjects were taken with filter paper strips by intra-pocket method initially, respectively, 1 month after scaling and root planning. MMP-9,TIMP-1 levels were measured by immunoblotting. Results MMP-9 levels in patients were redueed significantly after treatment[(2.2±1.4)AU vs (1.2±0.9)AU ]. The clinical parameters were positive correlation with MMP-9 level. TIMP-1 levels in patients were increased significantly after treatment[(1.3±1.2)AU vs (3.7±2.2)AU]. The clinical parameters were negative torrelation with TIMP-1 level. Conclusion MMP-9, TIMP-1 levels can act as objective parameters to evaluate the effect of periodontal therapy.
