ABSTRACT

Objetivou-se identificar e analisar os fatores determinantes que levaram os pacientes a abandonarem o tratamento para tuberculose. Estudo exploratório, descritivo e qualitativo, realizado com 15 pacientes internados em um hospital de João Pessoa (PB), Brasil. Utilizou-se uma entrevista semiestruturada e a análise de conteúdo de Bardin. Os motivos elencados foram etilismo, uso de drogas, reações adversas, problemas socioeconômicos, motivos religiosos, dificuldades de acesso ao tratamento, vínculo com os profissionais de saúde, e a sensação de cura antes do término do tratamento. A tuberculose ainda carece de atenção pelos gestores e o abandono do tratamento interfere no processo de cura.


The aim was to identify and analyze the determinant factors that led Tuberculosis patients to treatment dropout. An exploratory, descriptive and qualitative research was conducted with 15 patients admitted to a hospital in João Pessoa (PB), Brazil, using a semi structured interview and content analysis based on Bardin. The reasons listed were alcoholism, drug use, adverse reactions, socioeconomic issues, religious reasons, difficulties in access to treatment, relationship with health professionals and the sensation of healing before the end of the treatment. Tuberculosis still needs administrators' attention and treatment dropout interferes with the healing process.
