ABSTRACT

To investigate the effect of 12 weeks of intradialytic aerobic training on serum levels of interleukin-1β, interleukin-6, interleukin-8, interleukin-10, tumor necrosis factor alpha and functional capacity. Methods: Thirty sedentary volunteers were randomly assigned to either to exercise or control group. Exercise group were submitted to 12 weeks of aerobic training performed on a cycle ergometer for 30 minutes at intensity rated using the Borg scale (6 to 7) three times a week while control group kept the daily habits. Results: After 12 weeks only exercise group presented a significant reduction of serum levels of interleukin-1β, interleukin-6, interleukin-8, tumor necrosis factor alpha and an increase in serum levels of interleukin-10 and functional capacity. Conclusion: Twelve weeks of intradialytic aerobic training was effective in controlling inflammation and improving the functional ability of patients with chronic kidney disease.(AU)

ABSTRACT

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effect of 12 weeks of resistance exercise training periodization on the glycemic, lipid, immune, muscular strength and anthropometric profiles in a patient living with HIV and lipodystrophy. The subject of the study was male, 46 years old, white ethnicity, diagnosed 17 years ago with HIV and 3 years with lipodystrophy; the same was submitted to 12 weeks of daily undulating resistance training (DUPRT) three times per week. Before and after this period were conducted anthropometric, biochemical, immune and muscle strength. After DUPRT, there was reduction in neck, chest and abdomen circumferences, fat percentage, fat mass and total, central and peripheral subcutaneous fat. Concurrently there was an increase of hip, arms, thighs and calves circumferences, and increased muscle mass. There was a decrease in fasting glucose levels, triglycerides, total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, Hb1Ac, monocytes and increased HDL-cholesterol, white blood cells, lymphocytes, neutrophils, monocytes and platelets. In conclusion we demonstrated that 12 weeks of TRPO was beneficial and safe in the treatment of metabolic and anthropometric disorders in a patient living with HIV and lipodystrophy.(AU)

ABSTRACT

It has recently been verified using the Nintendo Wii in the health context. The aim of this study was to analyze the acute cardiovascular responses monitored by the behavior of heart rate, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and double product in an environment virtually simulated by Nintendo Wii. The sample was consisted of 18 health college students with mean age 22.07 ± 1.34 years. The variables were observed with use of delta analysis (post value - prior value) after 25 basketball shoots in two experimental situations: (I) seating and (II) jumping vertically. The results suggest the physical activity in a virtual environment emulated by Nintendo Wii is able to change the acute cardiovascular responses, mainly when performed in association with vertical jumps. Thus, the results support the feasibility use of the Nintendo Wii in training programs and favor its indication more securely.
