ABSTRACT
FUNDAMENTO: la terapia ortodóncica provoca períodos variables de dolor que no pueden tratarse de manera convencional por las negativas influencias de los analgésicos en el movimiento dentario, lo que motiva a buscar otras alternativas para la sedación de estos pacientes. OBJETIVO: evaluar la acción analgésica de la auriculopuntura en el dolor pos- instalación de técnicas ortodóncicas fijas. MÉTODO: se realizó un estudio de intervención terapéutica a corto plazo en el servicio de ortodoncia de la Clínica Estomatológica Docente Previsora desde enero de 2010 a enero de 2011. El universo y muestra lo conformaron 31 pacientes. Se determinó la percepción del dolor inmediato y mediato a través de la escala visual analógica, se precisó el estado de satisfacción de cada paciente y se identificaron las posibles reacciones adversas. RESULTADOS: más de la mitad de la muestra refirió dolor moderado inmediatamente de instalada la técnica, al tercer día de evolución casi la totalidad de los pacientes no presentó dolor. El total de la muestra estuvo satisfecho con el tratamiento. CONCLUSIONES: el método resultó eficaz con un mínimo de complicaciones.
BACKGROUND: orthodontic therapy causes different periods of pain that can not be treated conventionally because of the negative influence of analgesics in the dental movement; this motivates looking for other alternatives for the sedation of patients. OBJECTIVE: to asses the analgesic action of auriculoacupuncture in the pain that appears after the installation of fixed orthodontic techniques. METHOD: a short-term study of therapeutic intervention was conducted in the orthodontic department of the Previsora Teaching Stomatological Clinic from January, 2010 to January, 2011. The universe and sample were composed of 31 patients. The perception of immediate and mediate pain was determined by means of the analogical visual scale; the satisfaction state of every patient was specified and the possible adverse reactions were identified. RESULTS: more than the half of the sample expressed feeling a moderate pain immediately after the technique was installed; the third day of evolution almost all the patients did not presented pain. The whole sample was satisfied with the treatment. CONCLUSIONS: the method resulted to be effective with a minimum of complications.

Objetivo: Realizar un estudio retrospectivo, descriptivo e histórico sobre la Ortodoncia en Camagüey. Método: Se revisaron las bases de datos Scielo, Cumed y documentos impresos disponibles en bibliotecas, sobre evolución de la Ortodoncia a nivel mundial, nacional y provincial. Resultados: Se analizaron los resultados según diferentes momentos: desarrollo mundial de la Ortodoncia durante el siglo XIX; práctica de la Ortodoncia en Cuba desde el siglo XIX hasta después del triunfo de la Revolución; y el desarrollo de la Ortodoncia en Camagüey. Conclusiones: El triunfo revolucionario provocó profundas transformaciones en la Estomatología. Los profesores que asumieron la enseñanza contribuyeron al desarrollo del país y la formación de profesionales competentes. También fue útil la comprensión y apoyo brindado por las direcciones provincial y nacional del Ministerio de Salud Pública.
Objective: To carry out a retrospective, descriptive and historical study on the beginning and development of this specialization in the county of Camagüey. Method: Documents were revised it has more than enough history and evolution of the world Orthodontics, in the country and databases Scielo, Cumed and printed documents in books and magazines in libraries. Results: Their results were analyzed according to different moments: the develop of the Orthodontics during the XIX century; practice of the Orthodontics in Cuba during the XX century before and after the victory of the Cuban revolution; year 1962 and dentistry changes in the county of Camagüey and development of the Orthodontics in the territory. Conclusions: The revolutionary victory in Cuba caused deep transformations in the dentistry. The professors that assumed the teaching in Cuba contributed to the development of the country and the formation of competent professionals with positive values. The understanding and support toasted by the provincial and national addresses of the Ministry of Public health also useful.
ABSTRACT
Se mencionan hechos importantes y transformaciones ocurridas en el Ministerio de Salud Pública, la Educación Superior desde el siglo XX, y la Colaboración Internacional de Cuba después del triunfo de la Revolución. Se relata la experiencia docente durante 7 años de profesoras especialistas en Ortodoncia, quienes representaron la Facultad de Estomatología de la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas "Carlos J. Finlay" de Camagüey, en la Universidad de Saná en la República de Yemen. El reconocimiento por parte de estudiantes, profesores y evaluadores externos de otras universidades del mundo árabe, sobre la calidad de programas de la especialidad, introducción de formas de organización docentes y la metodología en las evaluaciones frecuentes es una muestra de la utilidad de la colaboración docente cubana en países hermanos.
Important events and changes that occurred within the Public Health Ministry, the Higher Education from the 20th century, and the International Collaboration of Cuba after the Triumph of the Revolution are mentioned. The objective of the work is to expose the teaching experiences during the teaching of the undergraduate degree in Stomatology and contribution provided by two medical teachers from the Medical University "Carlos J. Finlay" of Camagüey in Sana'a University, Republic of Yemen during the international collaboration for 7 years. Recognition by students, faculty and external evaluators of other universities in the Arab world on the equality of programs of specialty, introduction of Teaching Organization Forms and the methodology in the frequent evaluations is an example of the usefulness of the Cuban educational collaboration in neighboring countries.

La Universidad de Sana'a de Yemen recibió la colaboración de profesores cubanos por primera vez en el año 2002. La docencia de Ortodoncia era teórica y se necesitaba incorporar la atención a pacientes con maloclusiones. Se diseñó un programa de estudio e historia clínica en idioma inglés que constituyeron guías para el diagnóstico, el tratamiento de pacientes, la presentación y la discusión de casos. También propiciaron el registro de la evolución de pacientes ambulatorios. La ejercitación por parte de los 789 estudiantes graduados promovió la obtención de información sobre el paciente. Es interés de los autores que la historia clínica diseñada sea utilizada por estudiantes de cuarto y quinto años de la carrera de Estomatología, auxiliados por docentes de la especialidad e inglés, para ampliar su preparación lingüística y dar solución a problemas de la comunicación científica internacional.
The University of Sana′a, Yemen, received Cuban professors for the first time in 2002. Teaching of Orthodontics was mainly theoretical and it excluded assistance to patients with malocclusions. A syllabus and clinical history chart were designed in English. They both became guidelines for patients’ diagnosis and treatment, as well as case presentation and discussion. They also make possible to record outpatient evolution. The practice of 789 graduated students prompted patient information collecting. It is the authors’ interest that 4th- and 5th-year Dentistry students use the history chart designed, with the aid of English professors and specialists, so as to widen students’ linguistic preparation and solve problems of international scientific communication.
