ABSTRACT

To investigate the effects of ()infection on autonomic nervous function and calcitonin gene-related peptide in patients with functional dyspepsia(FD). Thirty-one patients with FD matching Rome Ⅳ criteria were included and divided into -positive group and -negative group. All patients were evaluated by Symptom Index of Dyspepsia(SID),Nepean Dyspepsia Index(NDI),and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale(HADS).Their heart rate variability(HRV)and calcitonin gene-related peptide(CGRP)level were also measured. There were no significant differences in SID(=-0.858, =0.858),NDI(=-1.464, =0.143),and Hospital Depression Scale score(=0.699, =0.485).However,the Hospital Anxiety Scale score was significantly higher in -positive group than the -negative group(=-2.470, =0.014).The level of CGRP in -positive group[(0.999±0.274)ng/ml]was significantly higher than that in the -negative group[(0.812±0.172)ng/ml;=2.238, =0.033].HRV data showed no significant difference between these two groups at very low frequency(=-1.210, =0.236),low frequency(LF)(=0.419, =0.678),high frequency(HF)(=0.612, =0.546),LF/HF(=-0.882, =0.399),and total power(=-0.963, =0.344). In FD patients, patients with -positive FD patients have higher depression and CGRP levels than those without infection, although their dyspepsia symptoms and HRV show no notable changes.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the effects of acupuncture on oxidative stress and neuronal damage in the prefrontal cortex of chronic cerebral hypoperfusion (CCH) rats; To investigate the molecular mechanisms of acupuncture in cognitive impairment of vascular dementia (VD) rats. Methods The animal model of VD was replicated by permanent bilateral common carotid artery occlusion (2VO) to induce CCH in rats. After modeling, rats were randomized into model group, acupuncture group and non-acupoint group. Sham-operation group was set as control group. Rats of acupuncture group and non-acupoint group were treated with needling for 2 weeks at 3 days after 2VO. Nissl and DHE staining were respectively used to evaluate the numbers of neurons and ROS level. SOD activity was examined by xanthine oxidase technique. Results Compared with sham-operation group, the number of neurons and SOD activity decreased in the model group, while the ROS level increased. Compared with the model group, the number of neurons and SOD activity increased in the acupuncture group, while the ROS level decreased. There were no obvious changes in all indexes in non-acupoint group. Conclusion Acupuncture can inhibit oxidative stress and improve neuronal damage and loss in the prefrontal cortex of VD rats.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo discuss the effects on detrusor hyperreflexia treated with ginger-salt-isolated moxibustion at "Shenque" (CV 8) and its mechanism.

METHODSThirty female adult SD rats were selected. The model of detrusor hyperreflexia was prepared with complete spinal transection at T, of which, 20 rats were randomized into a model group (10 rats) and a moxibustion group (10 rats). A sham-operation group (10 rats) was set up for sham-spinal transection. In the moxibustion group, when urine incontinence occurred (about in 2 weeks of modeling), the ginger-salt-isolated moxibustion at "Shenque" (CV 8) was given, 3 moxa cones each time, once a day, continuously for 7 days. After treatment, in each group, the urodynamic parameters were determined, after which, the bladder detrusor was collected. Western blot was used to determine the protein expressions of M2 and M3 receptors.

RESULTSCompared with the sham-operation group, the micturition interval was shortened apparently (<0.01); the maximal bladder pressure was increased apparently (<0.01); the protein expression of M2 receptor in the detrusor was increased significantly (<0.05) and that of M3 receptor had no apparent change (>0.05) in the rats of the model group. Compared with the model group, the micturition interval was longer apparently (<0.01), the maximal bladder pressure was reduced apparently (<0.01), the protein expression of M2 receptor in the detrusor was reduced significantly (<0.05) and that of M3 receptor had no apparent change (>0.05) in the rats of the moxibustion group.Compared with the sham-operation group, the results of the above indicators were not different significantly in the moxibustion group (all>0.05).

CONCLUSIONSThe ginger-salt-isolated moxibustion at "Shenque" (CV 8) suppresses the overactive bladder in the rat with spinal transection and its effect mechanism is possibly relevant with reducing the protein expression of detrusor M2 and inhibiting the excessive contraction of the detrusor.

ABSTRACT

Even though a large amount of researches showing the clinical effectiveness of acupuncture, there are the researches indicating the absent difference between acupuncture and sham-acupuncture (placebo), which provides the doubts on the specificity of acupuncture. It may be considered that acupuncture intervention is complica-ted and may produce unique non-specific effect, which results in the failure to evaluate effectively the acupuncture efficacy. The influential factors of the non-specific effect of acupuncture include the interaction between physician and patient, expectancy, physician authority, acupuncture treatment experiences, etc. It may be also relevant with the anticipated biological effect, Hawthorne effect, Pavlovian conditioned reflex, etc.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the effects of acupuncture on synaptic transmission signal molecules in rats with vascular dementia (VD), such as PKC, CaMKⅡ and NR2B, and discuss the molecular mechanism of acupuncture treatment for VD.Methods The multi-infarct dementia model was established by injection of emboli into the internal carotid artery. Experimental rats were randomly divided into normal group, model group, acupuncture group and non-acupoint group. For acupuncture group, acupuncture needles were penetrated into bilateral Zusanli. Non-acupoint group was given acupuncture treatment at the bilateral hypochondrium (10 mm above iliac crest). The rats in normal group and model group were performed to the same amount of capture stimulation as the acupuncture and non-acupoint groups. After treatment, the hippocampal PKC activity was detected by ELISA. Western blot was used to detect CaMKⅡ expression, and the protein expression of NR2B in CA1, CA3 and DG zones was assayed by immunohistochemical staining. Results Compared with normal group, PKC activity and NR2B expression in the hippocampus significantly decreased in the model group (P<0.01). After the acupuncture treatment, PKC activity increased significantly (P<0.05), and the protein expression of NR2B showed a trend to increase. There was no obvious difference in CaMKⅡ expression among all groups. Conclusion Acupuncture at Zusanli can enhance the activity of hippocampal PKC, a synaptic transmission signal molecule, which maybe one of the important molecular targets for the treatment of VD.

ABSTRACT

Objective To compare the cumulative analgesic effects of electroacupuncture at Sanyinjiao (SP6), Xuanzhong (GB39) and non-acupoint in treating primary dysmenorrhea. Method By adopting a multi-centered randomized controlled study method, 501 patients recruited from Dongzhimen Hospital of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, China-Japan Friendship Hospital, Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Capital Medical University, First Teaching Hospital of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Huguosi Hospital of Chinese Medicine of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine and the Outpatient of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine were randomized into a Sanyinjiao group, a Xuanzhong group, and a non-acupoint group, 167 subjects in each group. The electroacupuncture intervention was applied when dysmenorrhea flared up and the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) ≥40 mm, with frequency at 2/100 Hz and intensity during patient’s endurance, 30 min each time, once a day, and for successive 3 d. Before the first treatment, 30 min after the first treatment, and respectively prior to the second and third treatment, VAS was used to measure the pain intensity. Meanwhile, the Retrospective Symptom Scale (RSS-COX 2) was investigated before the first treatment, right after the removal of needles for the first treatment, before the second and third treatment. Result The decrease of VAS in Sanyinjiao group was more significant than that in Xuanzhong group and non-acupoint group (MD=﹣2.92 mm, P=0.028; MD=﹣3.47 mm, P=0.009), while there was no significant difference between Xuanzhong group and non-acupoint group (MD=﹣0.56 mm, P=0.674); there were no significant differences in comparing the RSS-COX2 total score among the three groups (P=0.086). Conclusion Sanyinjiao (SP6) can produce a more significant cumulative analgesic effect for primary dysmenorrhea patient than Xuanzhong and non-acupoint, and the effects of Xuanzhong and non-acupoit are equivalent.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To explore the changes of activity of antioxidases in hippocampus of the rats with multi-infarct dementia and the intervention effects of acupuncture.Method: The multi-infarct dementia model was made by injected emboli into the internal carotid artery. The demented rats were allocated to 3 groups randomly: model, acup and sham-acup;meanwhile normal and sham-operated rats were used as control. The parameters of oxidative stress were assessed by measuring the malondialdehyde(MDA),superoxide dismutase(SOD),catalase(CAT) and glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px) levels in hippocampus after acupuncture treatment.Result: Compared to normal group,MDA levels of hippocampus in model animals increased significantly, while SOD and GSH-Px decreased much more;No significant difference was observed in CAT among groups.Interestingly, the acupuncture treatment could significantly improve all those indexes. Conclusion: SOD/GSH-Px pathway may be playing a major role in combating oxidative stress in the brain of MID rats, the CAT activity not the key enzyme.Acupuncture treatment could increase the activity of antioxidase SOD/GSH-Px,alleviate the injury of free radical and maintain the oxidant-antioxidant balance to a great extent. This may be one of the mechanisms of its therapeutic effect.

ABSTRACT

As an important acupoints beyond meridians, Huatuo spine points are used extensively. Its localization generally is considered on the back waist where is under the both sides of the spinous processes (0.5 inch) from the first thoracic vertebral to the fifth lumbar. Furthermore, Huatuo spine points include 17 points on the right side and 17 points on the left. Through a large number of clinical observations and literature’s searching, the writer considers that the Huatuo spine points are an integrated, independent region that is combined pass through the Bladder meridian and the Du meridian. Therefore, acupuncture the region may depend on the specific conditions.

ABSTRACT

Acupuncture has a definite curative in treating pain.Pain is a subjective feeling, which is not easy to be measured because of lack of quantifiable index.Besides, because evaluation measures for acupuncture analgesia are not unanimous,it is lack of comparability among the different clinical researches. The author summarized the clinical evaluation measures of acupuncture analgesia which are used in clinical commonly, and considered that the clinical study on acupuncture analgesia should be globally evaluated from the extent of pain, complication symptoms and life quality on the basis of determining the nature and xing quantity of the subjective index.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To explore the mechanisms of acupuncture in improving osteoporosis. Methods: In this study, the expression of OPG and BMP-2 proteins of femur in SAMP6 control group, SAMP6 acupuncture group, SAMP6 sham-acupuncture group and SAMR1 control group were determined by Western Blot technique. Results: Compared with SAMR1 control group, the expression of OPG and BMP-2 proteins of the femur in SAMP6 control mice decreased obviously. Acupuncture could stimulate the expression of OPG and BMP-2 and no differences were detected between the SAMR1 control group and SAMP6 acupuncture group. Conclusion: Osteoporosis observed in SAMP6 was correlated with low expression of OPG and BMP-2. After acupuncture treatment, both of them showed increased expression, it suggested that the curative effects of acupuncture on osteoporosis were partly due to stimulating skeleton formation, inducing the production of some local factors of bone metabolism and decreasing the bone turnover rate.
