ABSTRACT

Natamycin is a polyene macrolide antibiotics with strong and broad spectrum antifungal activity. It not only effectively inhibits the growth and reproduction of fungi, but also prevents the formation of some mycotoxins. Consequently, it has been approved for use as an antifungal food preservative in most countries, and is also widely used in agriculture and healthcare. Streptomyces natalensis and Streptomyces chatanoogensis are the main producers of natamycin. This review summarizes the biosynthesis and regulatory mechanism of natamycin, as well as the strategies for improving natamycin production. Moreover, the future perspectives on natamycin research are discussed.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the current situation and requirements of the health management services among the middle-aged and elderly people in Hainan province for optimizing the health management service pattern. Methods The random sampling method was adopted to perform the survey and analysis on the current situation and requirements of the health management services among 600 middle-aged and elderly people by using the mode of questionnaire combined with interview. Results Totally 575 respondents completed the questionnaire. 43.1% of respondents could correctly understand the concept of health, 40.5% of them thought that "Health is the condition without disease" ;the main ways for getting the health knowledge by these people were mainly joining the intercommunication meeting of health management (97. 2%), phone counseling (94. 4%) and brochures (90.3%) ;the requirements of the health management service mainly focused on the middle age and elderly people aged 45- 59 years old. The most needed health management service items were the mental health service (99.0 %), cultural entertainment service(97.4 %) and health care recovery(84 %). The health management requirements had no statistical difference compared with the gender (x2 = 0. 678, P= 0. 712), cultural degree (x2 = 5. 584, P = 0. 471 ) and medical insurance situation (x2 = 3. 886, P = 0. 420) ;but compared with the age, the difference was statistically significant (x2 = 9. 697, P = 0.04). Conclusion The consciousness of health management among middle age and old people needs to be increased, the health management information platform construction and propaganda promotional efforts should be strengthened, the cooperation between government and enterprise should be strengthened, the pertinence of the health management service should be enhanced and the related policy laws and regulations should be perfected.

ABSTRACT

This work was to isolate and identify the bioactive secondary metabolite which was produced by myxobacteriumStigmatella eracta WXNXJ-B, and to evaluate its antitumor and apoptosis-inducing effects. The results showed that one novel compound [molecular formula C29H25NO3] was isolated, purified by Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography and preparative RP-HPLC, and identified as 5-[6-benzyl-quinolin-3-ylmethyl]-6- phenyl-3,7-dioxa- bicycle [4.1.0] heptan-3-one [named as quinoxalone] according to its UV, IR, HRMS and NMR spectra. The compound showed strong antitumor activity on B16, HepG2, MCF-7, SGC-7901, MDA-MB231 and CT-26 six tumor cell lines in vitro. Nevertheless, it showed less cytotoxic to the mouse normal spleen cells [IC50 was 836.27 +/- 13.02 mg mL-1]. The cytotoxic study on HepG2 cellsin-vitro showed that quinoxalone could induce the change of cell nuclear and arrested the cell division in the S and G2/M phase. Our results suggest that quinoxalone could be a potential anti-cancer agent

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the relationship between the plasma cytokines and the translocation of intestinal bacteria and endotoxin after gut barrier injury in severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) rats. Methods SD rats were divided randomly into sham operation group(n=36) and SAP group (n=36). The rat model of SAP was set up by retrograde injection of 4% sodium taurocholate in biliopancreatic duct. Morphological changes of pancreas and ileum were observed. The plasma levels of TNF-a,IL-6 and IL-10 were determined by ELISA. The plasma levels of DAO activities and LPS were measured at various time points. The rates of bacterial translocation to abdominal organs were also calculated. Results The plasma levels of TNF-a and IL-6 obviously elevated immediately after SAP induction and reached peak value at 48 hours, and the plasma IL-10 level significantly increased only 6 hours after SAP induction. Plasma DAO activities increased at the early stage of SAP and obviously decreased at 24 hours. Plasma LPS levels also increased significantly at the early stage of SAP and reached peak value at 48 hours. The rates of bacterial translocation to organs sharply increased 24 hours after SAP induction and reached 58.3% at 72 hours. Conclusion The levels of cytokines increased and gut barrier function was injured in the early stage of SAP. Cytokines may impair the intestinal microcirculation and gut barrier function, which could promote the intestinal bacteria and endotoxin translocation. Simultaneously, intestinal bacteria-endotoxin translocation could also induce excessive release of cytokines and aggravate the gut barrier damage, which might cause systemic inflammatory response syndrome and multiple organ disfunction syndrome. There was a close relationship beween cytokines and the translocation of intestinal bacteria and endotoxin in SAP.
