ABSTRACT
OBJETIVO: Este trabalho objetiva conhecer o perfil do motociclista acidentado atendido no pronto socorro do Hospital Universitário Evangélico de Curitiba (HUEC). MATERIAL E MÉTODO: Nos meses de abril a agosto foram coletadas informações de 60 motociclistas atendidos no HUEC. Elas dizem respeito a: data, hora e dia da semana do acidente; as informações de sexo, idade, grau de escolaridade, posição no veículo (condutor ou passageiro), do acidentado; há quanto tempo e se possui a habilitação adequada; o número e localização das lesões; se possui histórico de acidentes e se pretende continuar utilizando motocicletas. RESULTADOS: Durante os períodos diurnos, chegaram 60% dos pacientes, enquanto 36% dos pacientes chegaram durante o período noturno. Dos participantes, 87% eram os condutores. Não houve predominância de escolaridade. 98% utilizavam ao menos capacete como equipamento de proteção e sofreram no mínimo duas lesões, que foram mais frequentes em região distal de membros. Os pacientes foram, em sua maioria, homens, condutores devidamente habilitados, com idade entre 19 e 30 anos. Os acidentes foram mais frequentes nos dias de semana e no horário comercial. Dos entrevistados, 52% já tinha antecedente de acidente e 82% pretende continuar utilizando motocicleta. DISCUSSÃO: Os dados deste trabalho discordam do que diz a literatura quando ao dia e horário dos acidentes, havendo mais relatos de acontecidos à noite e nos fins de semana. Em grande parte dos trabalhos comparados houve a predominância da mesma faixa etária, sexo, grau de escolaridade e localização das lesões. CONCLUSÃO: Os acidentes ocorreram principalmente durante a semana em período diurno. O perfil que se identificou do paciente atendido foi: homem, com idade entre 19 e 30 anos, condutor da motocicleta, utilizando capacete, com ao menos duas lesões distais em membros e que não pretende parar de utilizar motocicletas.
OBJECTIVE: This study aims to understand the profile of the injured motorcyclist attended in the emergency room of Evangelical University Hospital in Curitiba (EUHC). MATERIAL AND METHOD: During the months of April to August, data were gathered from 60 motorcyclists treated at EUHC. They concern date, time and day of the week of the accident; information on sex, age, level of education, position in vehicle (driver or passenger), of the injured; if and how long they have the appropriate license; the location and number of injuries; if they have a history of previous accidents and whether they want to continue using motorcycles. RESULTS: 60% of the patients arrived during the day period. Of the participants, 87% were drivers. There was no predominance of education level. With only one exception, every patient used at least a helmet as protective equipment. Most (83%) suffered at least two injuries, which were more frequent in the distal region of members. Patients were mostly men, with appropriate license, drivers, aged between 19 and 30 years. Accidents were more frequent on weekdays and during business hours. Of those interviewed, 52% had previous accidents and 82% intend to continue using motorcycle. DISCUSSION: The results of this study disagree with what the literature says about what time of the day and most prevalent day of the week of the accident; there were more reports of accidents at night and on weekends, whilst this study showed more happenings at weekdays and daytime. In most studies compared, predominated the same age, sex, education level and location of the lesions. CONCLUSION: The accidents occurred mainly on weekdays and during daytime. The profile of patient identified was: male, aged between 19 and 30 years, driver of the motorcycle, in use of helmet, with at least two distal lesions in members and do not intend to stop using motorcycles.
