ABSTRACT

The quality of health record depends on the quality of its content and proper documentation. Minimum data set makes a standard method for collecting key data elements that make them easy to understand and enable comparison. The aim of this study was to determine the minimum data set for Iranian athletes' health records. This study is an applied research of a descriptive - comparative type which was carried out in 2013. By using internal and external forms of documentation, a checklist was created that included data elements of athletes health record and was subjected to debate in Delphi method by experts in the field of sports medicine and health information management. From 97 elements which were subjected to discussion, 85 elements by more than 75 percent of the participants [as the main elements] and 12 elements by 50 to 75 percent of the participants [as the proposed elements] were agreed upon. In about 97 elements of the case, there was no significant difference between responses of alumni groups of sport pathology and sports medicine specialists with medical record, medical informatics and information management professionals. Minimum data set of Iranian athletes' health record with four information categories including demographic information, health history, assessment and treatment plan was presented. The proposed model is available for manual and electronic medical records

ABSTRACT

Employees suggestion plan [ESP] is designed to encourage and improve employees' participation in developmental planning. The establishment of this system needs cultural, individual and structural preparedness. This study is aimed to determine organizational preparedness in Tehran University of Medical Sciences [TUMS]. This research was a cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical study conducted in TUMS headquarters in Tehran, Iran. The heterogeneous sample of this study consisted of 155 employees. They were asked to fill out a researcher-made questionnaire to assess their attitude towards organizational preparedness for ESP establishment. The validity and reliability of the questionnaire were confirmed. The data were analyzed by SPSS, and descriptive results were presented. The data were also analyzed by Friedman and ANOVA statistical methods. Most of the employees had a positive attitude towards the existence of individual and cultural preparedness for ESP establishment in TUMS. However, they believed the desired structural preparedness for this process did not exist. The desired organizational preparedness for ESP establishment exists in TUMS, although structural preparedness is not desirable. Therefore, it is suggested that necessary modifications should be made in TUMS organizational structure for effective ESP implementation

ABSTRACT

One of the most important reasons why organizations are distinguished from each other is the extent to which each applies information technology. Among the most important factors playing a role in the application of information technology are organizational factors such as organizational resources, organizational knowledge, processes, management structure, values and goals, all these elements affect the level of information technology acceptance and application. Therefore, this study aims to determine the degree to which the abovementioned elements can affect the application of information technology by middle managers of Tehran University of Medical Sciences [TUMS] teaching hospitals. This is a cross-sectional, descriptive-analytic study conducted in 2010. The subjects comprised 110 middle managers of TUMS teaching hospitals. The data-collection instrument was a questionnaire structured by the researchers, and its validity and reliability were confirmed prior to the study. The response rate was 80%. The participants consisted of 56 [62.9%] males and 33 [37.1%] females. The findings of the study showed that there was a statistically significant relationship between organizational resources, organizational knowledge, processes, management structure, values and goals on the one hand and the application of information technology in TUMS hospitals on the other [p<0.01]. The results show that organizational factors have a considerable impact on the application of information technology. Besides, managers and experts should consider the important aspects and effects of these organizational factors

ABSTRACT

Today, many families either have pets or work in animal husbandry units. It is very important to investigate the mental outcomes of animal care and also to study their keepers' personality traits. This study aims to perform a comparative examination of owners' mental health and character specifications or those of animal husbandry units' personnel. In this descriptive study, about 500 people were selected through available sampling technique. They had contact with animals or worked in a husbandry unit in the suburbs of Tehran. After referring to the veterinary clinic of Tehran University, they were studied using a general health questionnaire and an international personality question bank. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS software as well as multivariate and follow-up tests. The results of the present study show that all general mental health sub-scales except for anxiety are different in these groups. However, no difference was observed regarding responsibility and extroversion. Meanwhile, the adaptability of dog owners was lower than that of sheep owners; moreover, cattlemen were more irritable than sheep owners. In sum, the mental health of pet owners of the present study is at a lower level compared to that of those in other countries. It seems that the difference is due to religious and cultural differences existing between the two

ABSTRACT

Dental caries in children caused by repeatable consumption of sweet product especially at night, that itself mostly depend on economic and cultural background of the society and family. One of the most common diseases of human being is dental caries, which are caused by many factors, such as microorganisms, dieting, passing time, and the host itself. Among the microorganisms Streptococci mutants play the major role in causing dental caries. The aim of this research was to investigate the role of Streptococci mutants in dental caries between two groups of children sensitive and resistance to caries. This was a cross-sectional research, in which 120 children [60 susceptible and 60 resistance] aged between 3 to 5 referred to Tehran University dental school were selected randomly. The selection criteria for the sensitive and resistance dental caries were dmfs > 5 and dmfs < 10 respectively. None of the groups had used any drug or fluoride products before sampling. Saliva of both groups were collected, and transferred to the specific culture media [Mitis Salivarious Agar]. After incubation at 37 Degree°C colonies of S.mutans were counted. There was a significant difference between the number of colony counting [cfu/ml] with age and consumption of repeated sugar product, while. there was no significant difference between [cfu/ml] sex, oral hygiene, and nutrition period during infancy. The results of this study showed that the consumption of sugar product in childhood results in dental carries

ABSTRACT

Strategic thinking plays a very important role in guarding organizational survival and increasing development in today's dynamic and changing environment. One of the elements of strategic thinking is systemic thinking, which forms the conceptual framework to solve issues in an organization. This study aims to determine the ability of Tehran University of Medical Sciences [TUMS] senior managers to stick to systemic thinking based on Friedrik Goldman's model. This is a cross-sectional, descriptive- analytic study conducted on a sample of 100 TUMS senior managers in 2012. The data collection instrument was a standard questionnaire on systemic thinking, the response rate of which turned out to be 97%. The reliability and validity of the questionnaire were confirmed prior to its distribution. SPSS software was used for data analysis. To this end, single sample t-test and Friedman statistical methods were also applied. The findings revealed that the ability of systemic thinking was optimal among most TUMS senior managers. Enhancing and strengthening systemic thinking among TUMS senior managers are suggested, especially regarding omniscient and multi-end approach

ABSTRACT

Acute leukemia is one of the main causes of cancer in the world. Now a days using natural materials as source of anticancer drugs is more recommended. HESA-A is a drug of herbal-marine origin [patented by Iranian researcher]. HESA-A is composed of 50% inorganic substance? 45% organic substance [aminoenthraquinone] and 5% water. In this study effects of HESA-A? on NB4 cell line [Acute promyelocytic leukemia cells] was evaluated. HESA-A was prepared in normal saline as a stock solution [80 mg/ml, PH=7.4], and then was sterilized. After culturing and proliferation of NB4 cell line, the cells were treated by doses of 1, 2, 4 and 8 mg/ml of HESA-A. Respectively after 72h, the percentage of viable and dead cells were counted by using Trypan blue staining in Neubanr hemocytometer. Then by MTTassay, the percentage of cell survival were determined by ELISA reader in 570nm. Finally the effects of HESA-A on apoptosis were evaluated by flocytometery. This in vitro study shows that HESA-A has a cytotoxcic and antiprolifrative effects against NB4 cell line [Dose dependent].IC50 dose was 5mg/ml .HESA-A can result in apoptosis in 50% of the cells. Although the mechanism of HESA-A cytotoxicity action is not known, yet this study shows that this drug may cause apoptosis of cells by dose dependent method

ABSTRACT

Chronic myelogenous leukemia is characterized by Philadelphia [Ph] chromosome, the presence of BCR-ABL fusion gene and constitutive activation of the ABL1 tyrosine kinase. Despite an excellent result of target therapy by imatinib, some patients develop resistance to imatinib. In this study Efficacy of HESA-A on proliferation and apoptosis of K562 cell line was assessed. In this study doubling time of K562 cell line was calculated. The cells were affected by various concentrations of HESA-A[1,2,4 and 8 mg/ml respectively]. Cytotoxicity and IC50 dose of HESA-A were detected by MTT and trypan blue exclusion assay. Apoptosis was assessed by flowcytometry after 48 h cell treatment in the presence of IC50 dose. Doubling time of K562 cells was 24 hours. HESA-A reduced the number of viable K562 cells in a concentration dependent manner.IC50 dose was 3.5 mg/ml. In flowcytometry analysis of apoptosis, 19.22% of the treated cells were located in the position of the necrotic cells. The results of MTT and trypan blue exclusion assay suggest that HESA-A inhibits the growth of k562 cells in a concentration dependent manner and induces necrosis in K562 cells

ABSTRACT

Although vancomycine is used for the treatment of methicillin resistant Staphylococci, but vancomycine alone might not be effective for the treatment of methicillin resistant Staphylococci in compromised host. In the same time antimicrobial activity of cefepim on gram positive bacteria especially Staphylococci is well known. In this study the synergism effect of cefepim and vavcomycin on positive and negative coagulase Staphylococci in vitro condition was investigated. In total, 100 clinical samples of coagulase positive and negative Staphylococci were isolated from urine and blood samples from patients in Imam Khomeini Hospital during one year and identified .The modified Bauer-Kirby were used for the antibiotic susceptibility and macrodilution method for the MIC according to NCCLS procedure. The results showed that after adding vancomycin to cefepime in concentration from 0.05+ 0.5 ml micro g/ml, to 0.8+8 ml micro g/ml, growth reduction reached from 3.5% to 100%.The synergism effect of the two mentioned antibiotics on coagulase negative Staphylococci resistant to methicillin were shown that from concentration of 0.05+ 0.5 ml micro g/ml to 0.8+8 ml micro g/ml, a reduction in growth from 4.5% to 100% was observed. The results of this study showed that vancomycin and cefepime has synergic effect on Staphylococci

ABSTRACT

Background and Aim: Micro RNAs are a group of small non-coding RNAs which play an important role in multiple processes such as proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and cancer. Recent studies indicate that mir-210 is overexpressed into erythroid linage during the differentiation of hematopoietic precursor. The main goal of the present study is to investigate the influence of mir-210 on the pattern of expression in hemoglobin gamma chain

Materials and Methods: First, K562 cell line was cultured in RPMI1640 media. Then, pre-miR-210 was transferred into K562 cell line by lipofectamin. Finally, the alterations in the pattern of gamma chain expression were analyzed in days 7 and 14 by RT-PCR and real time PCR technique

Results: It was demonstrated that the overexpression of mir-210 in K562 cell line would lead to a 25-fold increase in the expression of gamma chain in comparison with the control group. Data analysis revealed that the change in the pattern of hemoglobin gamma chain expression was meaningful [p<0.002]

Conclusion: Based on these data, overexpression of mir-210 can lead to a significant increase in the production of gamma chain. Therefore, more studies in the field may reveal the fact that an increase in mir-210 can be a suitable goal in the improvement of sickle cell anemia and beta-thalassemia

ABSTRACT

The operating room is one of the main units in a hospital, where the most important phase of treatment is performed. Due to the physical properties, use of gases, and different electric devices in the operating room, the safety of both the patients and the staff should be considered carefully. This study aims to estimate the safety standards of the operating rooms in Tehran University Hospitals and to provide solutions to the existing problems. This is a descriptive, cross-sectional study conducted in the operating rooms of TUMS hospitals. The research instrument was a checklist used by interviewers while observing the place. The safety standards were studied in terms of physical environment, protection against fire, personnel safety, patients' safety, and infection control. The data were analyzed by SPSS software. The overall safety of the operating rooms of TUMS hospitals was found to be 84.9 percent. The figures for infection control and personnel safety, however, were lower. The operating rooms of Tehran University of Medical Sciences hospitals were studied in terms of five safety standards. Considering the physical environment, fire protection, and patient safety, they were quite safe but as to infection control they were relatively safe. However, they were found to be unsafe regarding the safety of their staff. Tehran Heart Center with an overall safety of 97.5% for its operating rooms can be considered as a model for the other TUMS treatment centers
