ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the treatment of congenital skin defects in neonates.Methods:11 newborns with congenital skin defects were admitted to our department, including 10 males and 1 female. After admission, various life indexes and skin defects were evaluated. Newborns were nursed in a constant temperature incubator, with individualized fluid replenishment, anti-shock, anti-infection and nutritional support to strengthen nursing and maintain the function of each organ. All skin defect wounds were cleaned and disinfected with 0.01% Benzalkonium chloride solution, and treated with wet dressing. The growth of new epithelium was observed. Results:One of the 11 cases was complicated with septicaemia, and 3 cases were examined histopathologically. After dressing change, all the 11 newborns were cured, and the wound healed from 7 to 29 days, with an average of 21.3 days. 2 years later, 10 patients were followed up. The wound healed well, without obvious scar formation, functional activities were not affected, and some areas had mild pigmentation. Conclusions:For newborns with congenital skin defects, maintaining the function of organs as soon as possible, changing local dressing and strengthening nursing care can promote wound healing and skin structure and function recovery.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore the related factors of depression and anxiety among the retired employees, and to examine the mediating role of social participation quality in the elderly between living alone and depression and anxiety. Methods:The retired employees who met the admission criteria in the First Hospital of Jilin University were selected as the subjects. The basic situation questionnaire was used in this study, and the social participation quality, depression and anxiety were assessed by social aspect of the Quality of Life Scale, Patient Health Questionnaire Depression Table and Anxiety Screening Questionnaire, respectively. A total of 642 valid questionnaires were obtained. Linear regression analysis was used to analyze the influencing factors, and the mediating effect test was conducted by stepwise regression analysis. Results:The influencing factors of depression in the retired employees were physical exercise (β=-0.948, P<0.01), entertainment (β=-1.423, P<0.01), whether to suffer from chronic diseases (β=2.579, P<0.01), family income (β=-0.557,P<0.05), whether to insist on work (β=-1.673, P<0.05), and whether to live alone (β=2.097, P<0.01).The influencing factors of anxiety were physical exercise (β=-0.711, P<0.05), entertainment (β=-1.380, P<0.01), whether to suffer from chronic diseases (β=1.204, P<0.05), and whether to live alone (β=1.639,P<0.05).In the elderly, living alone status and social participation quality were input in the linear regression as the independent variables, and the results showed that the effects of living alone status on depression and anxiety had no the significant differences (β=0.837,P=0.218; β=0.837,P=0.218), and social participation quality played a full mediating role between living alone status and depression and anxiety. Conclusion:Physical exercise, entertainment, whether to suffer from chronic diseases and whether to live alone are the influencing factors of depression and anxiety in the retired employees; social participation quality plays a full mediating effect between living alone status and depression and anxiety.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the radiation dose from body γ-knife treatment to the nontargeted region's sensitive organs before and after shielding. Methods 20 patients suffering tumors less than 5 cm were selected.Calibrated thermoluminescence dosimeters (TLD) were placed above the sensitive organs, such as lens, thyroid gland and sexual gland,to measure the radiation dose received before shielding.Different plans were prepared for the patients with lung and renicapsule tumors using calibrators of different size.Radiation dose was measured by the aid of water phantom. For selected lungtumor treatment plan, the radiation doses were measured at the same location on the water phantom shielded with and without 1,2 and 4 cm lead, respectively. Results The maximum doses were 1 023.3 mGy for lens,1 235.7 mGy for thyroid gland and 1 176.8 mGy for sexual glands after treatment, respectively, being higher on the left site than the right. The radiation doses to the sensitive organs were higher for the water phatom with more tartgted points, decreasing by 55%-91% after being covered with 1,2 and 4 cm lead shieldings. There were significant differences in doses received before and after lead shielding (t =14.4,12.9,13.3,P < 0.05).Conclusions In the course of body γ-knife treatment, the additional factors would increase the dose to the sensitive organs. Therefore,it is necessary to provide lead shielding protection to the teenagers and adults with fertility when they undergo body γ-knife treatment.Trial registration Chinese Clinical Trial Registry,ChiCTR-OOC-16008259.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To study the effect of tongfei mixture (TFM, a Chinese recipe mainly consisted of angelica and rehmannia root) on nocturnal hypoxia in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Sixty patients with COPD of remission phase were randomly divided into 3 groups, 20 in each group. Group A was the control group; Group B, the group simply treated with oxygen; Group C, treated with oxygen and TFM. Changes of pulmonary function, diaphragm muscle mobility (DMM), 6 min walk distance (6MWD), morning arterial blood gas, nocturnal lowest oxygen saturation (LSaO2), mean blood oxygen saturation (MSaO2), the percentage of saturation lower than 90% time account for total sleeping time (SLT90%) and ultrasonocardiogram before and after treatment were observed.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Levels of LSaO2, MSaO2 and SLT90% in Groups B and C were significantly higher than those in Group A (P<0.05, P<0.01). The lowering of PaCO2 in Group C was more significant than that in Group B (P<0.05). The mPAP level in Group C was lower, FEV1, 6MWD and DMM were improved than those in Group A and B, showing significant difference (P<0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Combined use of oxygen therapy and TFM could not only improve the nocturnal hypoxia, but also lower PaCO2. TFM is an important supplement of oxygen therapy.</p>
