ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the clinical outcome and complications associated with utilizing sagittal plane stable vertebra-1 (SSV-1) as the distal instrumented vertebra (LIV) in posterior fusion of thoracic kyphosis with Scheuermann's Disease kyphosis (STK).Methods:A longitudinal study on patients with STK who underwent posterior correction and fusion surgery from January 2018 to June 2021 were conducted. All participants had a follow-up duration over two years. Patients were divided into two groups according to the segment of LIV: the SSV group, where LIV was located in SSV; and the SSV-1 group, where LIV was located in the vertebral body above SSV. The radiographic parameters, including global kyphosis (GK), lumbar lordosis (LL), and sagittal plane (SVA), LIV offset distance (LIV translation), pelvic incidence (PI), pelvic tilt (PT) and sacral slope (SS), were compared between the two groups. The SRS-22 scale was used to evaluate health-related quality of life at pre-operation and last follow-up, and the incidence of postoperative distal junctional kyphosis (DJK) was also recorded. Analytical techniques, such as Analysis of Variance and Mann-Whitney tests, were employed to compare inter-group differences.Results:A total of 57 patients were included in the study, 36 in the SSV group and 21 in the SSV-1 group. The average age for patients were 16.1±2.3 years (range 13-20 years), and the average follow-up time was 32.8±6.8 months (range 24-53 months). There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in terms of gender, age, follow-up time, surgical time, intraoperative bleeding volume, and fusion level. Before surgery, the LIV deviation distance in the SSV group was significantly lower than that in the SSV-1 group (-7.9±11.0 mm vs. 31.5±11.5 mm, t=7.64, P<0.001). In the SSV group, the preoperative GK was 79.3°±10.5°, and the last follow-up GK was 44.4°±8.5°, which was significantly improved compared to preoperative value ( t=28.28, P<0.001); in the SSV-1 group, the preoperative GK was 81.1°±10.6°, and the value at 1-week post-operative was 44.9°±7.8°, which was significantly improved compared to pre-operative value ( t=22.23, P<0.001). At the last follow-up, it was 45.1°±8.7°, with a correction rate of 44.3%±8.5%. No significant difference was observed between the two groups in terms of GK, LL, SVA, PI, PT and SS at pre-operative, 1-week post-operative and last follow-up ( P>0.05). All patients had no intraoperative complications of nerve injury. During the follow-up period, one patient (1/21, 4.8%) developed DJK without complications such as proximal kyphosis, pseudarthrosis, or failed internal fixation. At the last follow-up, the functional score of SRS-22 in SSV-1 group improved from preoperative (3.5±0.54) to postoperative (4.1±0.62), with an average improvement rate of 19.2%±3.2%, and the difference was statistically significant ( t=3.74, P=0.001). These results indicating that the surgical treatment was effective in relieving the symptoms of the patients. Conclusion:Selecting SSV-1 as LIV in corrective surgeries for STK appears to produce commendable clinical results with minimal implant-associated complications over a two-year observation period.

ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo investigate the mechanism of Dihuang Yinzi in improving astrocyte injury and protecting synaptic structure and function in the brain of Alzheimer's disease (AD) mice. MethodForty male APP/PS1 transgenic mice aged four months were randomly divided into a model group and a model + Dihuang Yinzi (0.25 g·kg-1) group, with 20 mice in each group. Forty C57BL/6J mice with the same background and same age were randomly divided into a control group and a control + Dihuang Yinzi (0.25 g·kg-1) group, with 20 mice in each group. The mice in the control + Dihuang Yinzi group and the model + Dihuang Yinzi group were administered with Dihuang Yinzi by gavage, and those in the control group and the model group received an equal volume of sterilized normal saline, once a day for 150 days. The learning and memory ability of mice was tested by the light-dark box test and Y-maze spontaneous alternation test. The content of glutamate (Glu) and glutamine (Gln) was measured by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS). Long-term potentiation (LTP) assay was used to detect synaptic plasticity in brain tissues. The protein expression levels of excitatory amino acid transporter 2 (EAAT2), postsynaptic density protein95 (PSD95), and synaptophysin (SYN) in brain tissues were measured by Western blot. Immunofluorescence was used to assess the localization and expression of EAAT2. Colorimetry was performed to detect Na+-K+ ATPase activity in mouse brain tissues. ResultAs compared with the control group, the model group showed shortened residence latency (P<0.01), increased number of errors (P<0.01) in the light-dark box test, reduced spontaneous alternation behaviors (P<0.01), no significant difference in the total number of arm entries in the Y-maze spontaneous alternation test, down-regulated expression of EAAT2, PSD95, and SYN (P<0.01), blunted activity of Na+-K+ ATPase (P<0.01), up-regulated Glu level (P<0.01), down-regulated Gln level (P<0.01), and reduced relative population spike (PS) amplitude and the slope of excitatory postsynaptic potential (EPSP) (P<0.05, P<0.01), while the above experimental indexes were not significantly different in the control + Dihuang Yinzi group. Compared with the model group, the model + Dihuang Yinzi group displayed prolonged residence latency (P<0.05), decreased number of errors (P<0.01) in the light-dark box test, increased spontaneous alternation behaviors (P<0.01), no significant difference in the total number of arm entries in the Y-maze spontaneous alternation test, up-regulated expression of EAAT2, PSD95, and SYN (P<0.01), potentiated activity of Na+-K+ ATPase (P<0.01), reduced Glu level (P<0.01), up-regulated Gln level (P<0.01), and increased PS amplitude and EPSP slope (P<0.01). ConclusionDihuang Yinzi can improve cognitive dysfunction in AD mice by protecting astrocytes, increasing Glu uptake to reduce its abnormal accumulation, and protecting synaptic structure and function.

ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo explore the mechanism of Dihuang Yinzi (DHYZ)in improving astrocyte injury in the brain and regulating energy metabolism and autophagy disorder in Alzheimer's disease (AD) model mice. MethodForty male APP/PS1 transgenic mice aged four months were randomly divided into a model group and a model + DHYZ group (2.5 g·kg-1), with 20 mice in each group. Forty C57BL/6J mice with the same background and same age were randomly divided into a control group and a control + DHYZ group (2.5 g·kg-1), with 20 mice in each group. The mice in the control group and the model group were administered with an equal volume of sterilized normal saline by gavage, once a day for 150 days. Novel object recognition test and step-down test were performed to evaluate the learning and memory ability of mice. The expression of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) in astrocytes was detected by immunofluorescence and Western blot. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was used to detect adenosine triphosphate (ATP), adenosine diphosphate (ADP), and adenosine monophosphate (AMP) in brain tissues of mice, and the data obtained were used to calculate energy charge (EC) levels. The phosphorylation levels of liver kinase B1 (LKB1), adenosine 5′-monophosphate (AMP)-activated protein kinase (AMPK), UNC-51-like kinase 1 (ULK1), and mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) and the expression levels of autophagy-related proteins Beclin-1, microtuble-associated protein 1 light chain 3 (LC3)-Ⅱ/LC3-Ⅰ, and p62 in mouse brain were measured by Western blot. ResultCompared with the control group, the model group showed decreased novel object recognition index, shortened retention latency, increased error times in the step-down test, up-regulated protein expression of GFAP, decreased content of ATP, ADP, and EC in brain tissues, elevated AMP , increased levels of p-AMPK, p-LKB1, and p-mTOR, and protein expression of p62 , and down-regulated p-ULK1 level and protein expression of Beclin-1 and LC3-Ⅱ/LC3-Ⅰ(P<0.01), while the above experimental indexes were not significantly different in the control + DHYZ group. Compared with the model group, the model + DHYZ group showed increased novel object recognition index(P<0.05), prolonged retention latency(P<0.01), decreased error times(P<0.01) in the step-down test, reduced protein expression of GFAP(P<0.05), increased content of ATP, ADP, and EC in brain tissues (P<0.05, P<0.01), decreased AMP content(P<0.05), reduced p-AMPK, p-LKB1, and p-mTOR levels and protein expression of p62, and up-regulated p-ULK1 level and protein expression of Beclin-1 and LC3-Ⅱ/LC3-Ⅰ(P<0.01). ConclusionBy protecting astrocytes, DHYZ can improve energy metabolism and autophagy disorder in AD mice to improve the learning and memory ability of model mice.

ObjectiveTo explore the mechanism of Dihuang Yinzi in improving astrocyte injury and glycolysis in Alzheimer's disease (AD) mice via regulating the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (Akt) signaling pathway, thereby improving the cognitive function of AD mice. MethodForty male APP/PS1 transgenic mice aged four months were randomly divided into a model group and a model + Dihuang Yinzi (0.25 g·kg-1) group, with 20 mice in each group. Forty C57BL/6J mice with the same background and same age were randomly divided into a control group and a control + Dihuang Yinzi (0.25 g·kg-1) group, with 20 mice in each group. The mice in the control + Dihuang Yinzi group and the model + Dihuang Yinzi group were administered with Dihuang Yinzi by gavage, and those in the control group and the model group received an equal volume of sterilized normal saline, once a day for 150 days. Morris water maze test was performed to test the ability of navigation and space exploration of mice. The protein expression of p-PI3K, PI3K, p-Akt, Akt, phosphofructokinase-1 (PFK-1), and aldehyde dehydrogenase 3 family member B2 (ALDH3B2) in mouse brain tissues was measured by Western blot. An immunofluorescence assay was performed to detect astrocyte morphology and the expression level of ALDH3B2. ResultAs compared with the control group, the model group showed prolonged escape latency during the 2nd to 5th days of the location-based navigation (P<0.05, P<0.01), reduced number of times crossing the target area of the platform, shortened residence time in the target quadrant (P<0.05, P<0.01), prolonged residence time in the opposite quadrant (P<0.05), increased surface area of the cell body and total length of cell protrusions of astrocytes (P<0.05, P<0.01), and down-regulated protein expression of p-PI3K, p-Akt, ALDH3B2, and PFK-1 (P<0.01), while the above experimental indexes were not significantly different in the control + Dihuang Yinzi group. Compared with the model group, the model + Dihuang Yinzi group showed shortened escape latency of APP/PS1 mice during the 2nd to 5th days of the location-based navigation (P<0.05, P<0.01), increased number of times crossing the platform, prolonged target quadrant residence time (P<0.05, P<0.01), shortened residence time in the opposite quadrant (P<0.05), reduced surface area of the cell body and total length of cell protrusions of astrocytes (P<0.05), and up-regulated protein expression of p-PI3K, p-Akt, ALDH3B2, and PFK-1 (P<0.01). ConclusionDihuang Yinzi can improve the learning and memory ability of AD mice by activating the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway and up-regulating the protein expression of PFK-1 and ALDH3B2 to protect against astrocyte injury in brain tissues and improve glycolysis.

ABSTRACT

Astrocytes are important nerve cells in the central nervous system (CNS), which mainly play a key role in nutrition and support. Astrocytes and neurons undergo close energy coupling and substance coupling, which are closely related and interact with each other. In recent years, many studies have shown that the astrocyte-neuron coupling imbalance plays a central role in the occurrence and progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and serves as an important therapeutic target receiving increasing attention. According to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theory, the main pathogenesis of AD is kidney deficiency and marrow inadequacy, and in clinical medication, kidney-tonifying and marrow-filling TCM prescriptions are often employed with satisfactory results achieved. As reported, many kidney-tonifying and marrow-filling prescriptions exhibit regulatory and protective effects on the imbalance of astrocyte-neuron coupling, suggesting that the effect of kidney-tonifying and marrow-filling prescriptions in treating AD may have some internal relationship with its regulation of the imbalance of astrocyte-neuron coupling. This article reviewed the underlying internal relationship between the imbalance of astrocyte-neuron coupling and the pathogenesis of kidney deficiency and marrow inadequacy in AD and the research progress in the intervention mechanism of TCM for tonifying the kidney and filling the marrow.

ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo study the effect of upper limb robot-assisted therapy on upper limb function and cerebral cortex activation in stroke patients using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS). MethodsFrom January, 2022 to January, 2023, 32 stroke patients in Zhejiang Rehabilitation Medical Center were randomly divided into control group (n = 16) and experimental group (n = 16). Both groups received routine neurological medication and routine rehabilitation. The control group received routine upper limb exercises, the experimental group received upper limb robot-assisted therapy. They were assessed with Fugl-Meyer Assessment-Upper Extremities (FMA-UE) and fNIRS (oxyhemoglobin, deoxyhemoglobin, and total hemoglobin) before and four weeks after treatment. NIRS_SPM was used for activation analysis, Homer2 was used for blood oxygen concentration analysis. ResultsAfter treatment, the score of FMA-UE increased in both groups (|t| > 5.910, P < 0.001), and was higher in the experimental group than in the control group (t = -2.348, P < 0.05). fNIRS activation results showed that, the activation increased in the experimental group after treatment in channel 17 (F = 9.354, P < 0.01), and it was more than that in the control group (F = 5.217, P < 0.05). fNIRS blood oxygen concentration results showed that, the blood oxygen concentration increased in the experimental group after treatment in channel 17 (F = 12.179, P < 0.01), and it was more than that in the control group (F = 4.883, P < 0.05). ConclusionThe upper limb robot-assisted therapy can improve the upper limb motor function and cerebral cortex activation of stroke patients.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To observe the application and clinical effect of stromal vascular fraction gel (SVF-gel) in local rhinoplasty.Methods:A total of 84 patients with mild nasal root and low bridge were divided into observation group and control group. In the observation group, liposuction with SVF gel extraction plus injection rhinoplasty was carried out; in the control group, liposuction plus injection rhinoplasty was carried out according to the height change of nasal root and bridge, the change of nasal frontal angle, the occurrence of complications and the satisfaction of patients after operation.Results:The 84 patients were followed up for 2 weeks to 24 months. The height of nasal root and bridge increased significantly and the lines were more harmonious. The absorption of the observation group was much lower than that of control group. Except 3 patients in the observation group and 8 patients in the control group, there were different degrees of absorption within 6 months after operation. All patients did not have complications such as fat liquefaction, necrosis, induration and infection in the injection area. Three patients in the observation group were satisfied with the results after reinjection, and one patient in the control group was satisfied with the results after reinjection, three patients were not satisfied with the results, and four patients were satisfied with the prosthesis augmentation rhinoplasty. In the observation group, there were 37 cases of excellent satisfaction, 5 cases of good satisfaction, and the overall satisfaction was 100%; in the control group, there were 20 cases of excellent satisfaction, 15 cases of good satisfaction, 7 cases of bad satisfaction, and the satisfaction was 83.3%. The former was better than the latter.Conclusions:In view of superiorities such as lower complications with long-lasting effect, high fat survival rate and high satisfaction in local augmentation rhinoplasty, SVF-gel injection is especially suitable for patients who cannot accept autologous bone, prosthesis and allograft tissue filler for augmentation rhinoplasty.

ABSTRACT

Objective To analyze the risk factors of implant?related complications in adult patients with adult degenera?tive scoliosis (ADS) who underwent long?level internal fixation. Methods This was a retrospective study that analyzed 99 cases of adult degeneration scoliosis patients who underwent long level posterior pedicle screw fixation in our hospital between June 2013 and January 2016. The internal fixation and related complications were evaluated by measuring and analyzing the radiograph?ic data of the postoperative X?ray films. The timepoints of measurement were pre?operation, before discharge, half a year, 1 year, when complications occur and the final follow?up after operation. Implant?related complications included proximal junctional ky?phosis (PJK), proximal junctional failure (PJF), distal junctional kyphosis/failure (DJK/DJF), rod breakage in addition to other ra?diographic implant?related complications (that were not related to PJF) such as screw loosening, breakage or pullout, or interbody graft and hook or set screw dislodgements seen on follow?up radiographs. The incidence of postoperative implant?related complica?tions was counted. All the cases included in the study were divided into the complication group and the non?complication group. Statistical difference between groups at different follow?up time point was analyzed. Potential risk factors were identified using uni?variate testing. Multivariate Logistics regression was used to analyze the independent risk factors for implant?related complica?tions. The postoperative functional scores were assessed using the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), Japanese Orthopaedic Associa? tion Scores (JOA), Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), and Lumbar Stiffness Disability Index (LSDI). Functional scores were tested us?ing group t tests. Patients were divided into groups according to PI-LL<10°, 10°-20°and>20°. The preoperative and postoper?ative radiographical parameters and clinical function score among each groupwere compared.The best PI-LL matching value was verified by analyzing the effect of long?segment fusion orthopedics on ADS. Results Ninety?nine ADS patients who underwent long level posterior fixation were included. The incidence of patients with mechanical complications was 30.3%. Univariate analy?sis showed that chronic risk factors of postoperative implant?related complications after surgery of ASD included diabetes ( OR=3.52, P=0.001) and blood transfusion ( OR=2.61, P=0.030); surgical risk factor isosteotomy ( OR=4.33, P=0.000); preoperative im?aging risk factor was preoperative SVA ( OR=1.03, P=0.000); the risk factors for increased risk of the implant?related complications included anemia ( OR=1.17, P=0.810), cardiac complications ( OR=1.80, P=0.290) and hospital stay ( OR=1.11, P=0.110). Indepen?dent predictors identified on multivariate Logistics regression modeling included osteotomy ( OR=3.05,P=0.032), and preoperative SVA ( OR=1.03,P=0.007). The radiographical parameters and clinical function scores of the PI-LL 10°-20° group were better than or partially superior to those of the PI-LL<10°group and the PI-LL>20°group. The postoperative SVA of the PI-LL 10°-20°group was significantly lower than that of the PI-LL<10°group (t=2.399, P=0.020) and the PI-LL>20°group (t=-3.074, P=0.005). The incidence of implant?related complications in the PI-LL 10°-20°group was significantly lower than that in the PI-LL<10°group (t=1.584, P=0.003). Survival analysis showed that the PI-LL 10°-20°group was significantly better than the PI-LL<10°group (χ2=7.782, P=0.005), while the PI-LL 10°-20°group had better survival than PI-LL>20°group, althoughthatwas not statistically significant (χ2=2.542, P=0.111). Conclusion Risk factors of postoperative implant?related complications after sur?gery of ASD included osteotomy and preoperative SVA. Patients with one or more of these risk factors should be informed of the risk increase with informed consent. Patients with PI-LL between 10°and 20°had better postoperative radiographical parame?ters and clinical functional scores. They should be optimized preoperatively and followed up closely during the postoperative period.

Objective@#To discuss and analyze the respective clinical effects of autologous fat filling for facial rejuvenation in the same period of three months after incisions.@*Methods@#From June 2015 to January 2018, 117 patients with facial rejuvenation admitted to the Plastic Surgery Hospital of Weifang Medical College were randomly divided into A, B and C groups. Group A (39 cases, male 3 cases, female 36 cases, age 44-67 years old) received simple rhytidectomy. Group B (39 cases, male 4 cases, female 35 cases, age 45-67 years old) underwent rhytidectomy and autologous fat filling at the same time. Group C (39 cases, male 3 cases, female 36 cases, age 45-65 years old) received autologous fat filling 3 months after rhytidectomy. We compared the improvement of facial depression (nasolabial groove and mouth angle), the effect of facial rejuvenation after fat filling in three groups and the incidence of complications in group B and C.@*Results@#15 cases in group A, 12 cases in group B and 2 cases in group C had no obvious improvement in facial atrophy, the remaining 88 cases had obvious improvement compared with before operation, and achieved the effect of facial rejuvenation. The incidence of complications in group C (7.69%) was significantly lower than that in group B (35.90%), the excellent or good rate of facial improvement and the nasolabial groove and peri-oral depression improvement in group C (87.18%, 92.31%) was significantly higher than that in group B (64.10%, 64.10%) and group A (33.33%, 17.95%) (P<0.05).@*Conclusions@#Comparative analysis of fat filling after 3 months of wrinkle removal to improve facial soft tissue atrophy and collapse is more obvious and more permanent in effect than fat filling, which is worthy of clinical promotion.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To explore the clinical effect of artificial dermis on partial nail bed defects.@*Methods@#From May 2013 to September 2016, 16 cases of 21 fingers with partial nail bed defect and bone exposure received primary repair with artificial dermis after debridement. Then the outer dressing was changed 3 days after the operation, and the dressing was changed once every 3 to 5 days. The pink dermis like tissue was placed on the wound surface 2 to 3 weeks after the operation. The wound surface was naturally epithelialized.@*Results@#All the fingers were survived after artificial dermis repair, and the fingertip surface of nail bed defect was epithelialized naturally and healed well. Postoperative follow-up was 5 to 16 months, with an average of 8.2 months. The growth of fingernails was smooth with symmetrical appearance, natural toughness, good adhesion between the nail body and the nail bed, and no pain or hyperesthesia at the tip. Results of curative effect evaluation showed excellent in 18 fingers, good in 3 fingers. Results of patient′s satisfaction with postoperative finger appearance showed very satisfactory in 13 cases and satisfactory in 3 cases.@*Conclusions@#The method of repairing partial defect of nail bed using artificial dermis is simple with minimal damage and a good clinical effect.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To study the clinical results of Coflex and lumbar posterior decompression and fusion in the treatment of lumbar degenerative spondylolisthesis at L4-5.@*Methods@#Thirty-eight patients with Grade Ⅰ degenerative spondylolisthesis, from January 2008 to December 2011 in Beijing Chaoyang Hospital, Capital Medical University were reviewed, and patients were divided into two groups by randomness. Group A was treated with Coflex and group B with pedicle instrumentation and interbody fusion. Fifteen patients were included in group A, and 23 patients were included in group B. In group A, the average age was (56.3±9.1) years. In group B, the average age was (58.2±11.2) years. The clinical results were evaluated by visual analogue scale (VAS) and Oswestry disability index (ODI). Slip distance (SD) was measured before and after surgery, and the changes of intervertebral angle at index level and adjacent level were also recorded.@*Results@#The follow-up period was 36 to 68 months, with the average of (39±14) months in the both groups. The operation time and bleeding volume of patients in group A were significantly less than that of group B (P<0.05). In both groups, the difference of ODI and VAS before operation and postoperative follow-up were statistically significant (P<0.05). There was no significant difference between lumbar intervertebral angle and the sliding distance in group A at all time points. In the group B, there was a significant increase in the intervertebral angle and the sliding distance at L3-4 and L5-S1 level after surgery, the difference at upper and below adjacent segment before and after surgery were statistically significant.@*Conclusions@#Coflex interspinous dynamic stabilization system has same excellent clinical results as pedicle screw instrumentation and fusion surgery for the treatment of L4-5 degenerative spondylolisthesis; no significant progression of spondylolisthesis been observed during more than 3 years follow-up, and no obvious adjacent segment degeneration has been found.

ABSTRACT

The mutual influence of lead and cadmium ions on “in-situ” bismuth film coated glassy carbon electrode was demonstrated using different concentration target ions by changing ratio between Pb2+ and Cd2+. It is found that the presence of coexisting ions can have an influence on the detection of target ions. Especially for the detection of Cd2+, the existence of Pb2+ can be beneficial for the deposition of Cd due to the more positive deposition potentials. And the analytical performances of Cd2+and Pb2+ were obtained. The detection limit is 0. 5 μg/L towards Pb2+ with a linear range from 1-80 μg/L using 60 s deposition time. The resulting calibration plots of Cd2+ are linear over the range from 1-25 and 30-200 μg/L with the detection limit of 1 μg/L using 120 s deposition time. The bismuth film was finally employed to determine the Pb2+and Cd2+in real sample with good satisfied results.

ABSTRACT

The liver sample of mouse under different conditions is investigated in this paper, and the three-dimensional vessel system of mouse liver is established. The experiments were performed at X-ray imaging and biomedical application beamline (BL13W1) of Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF). The results show that dry liver sample has the best imaging quality. By the approach of filter back projection (FBP), the tomography images are obtained. The vessel tree is reconstructed by the use of surface rendering. It reveals that in-line phase contrast imaging technique has the ability to visualize structures inside mouse liver and has the potential to be used in liver imaging in the future.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The conventional X-ray imaging has low absorption contrast for lymphoedema, and the resolution is about mm level, which is not conducive to early diagnosis. Micro-imaging of biological soft tissues can be achieved by phase-contras imaging technique. OBJECTIVE: Using synchrotron radiation in-line phase contrast imaging technique to achieve the lymphoedema model imaging and observe the lesions characteristic of lymphatic vessels. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: Observational experiment. The lymphoedema model was prepared at the Capital Medical University from May to June in 2009. And the experiment was completed in Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF) BL13W1 in June 2009. MATERIALS: Five New Zealand rabbits were prepared for lower extremity lymphoedema models. METHODS: The lower extremity lymph node eradicates operation was performed on rabbits to result in lower extremity lymphoedema. And the synchrotron radiation in-line phase contrast imaging technology was used to collect the projected image of specimens within the 180°, and to reconstruct three-dimensional image. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Severity of lymphatic vessels and the wall thickness. RESULTS: The lymphatic vessel was swollen, bent and distorted. And the lymphatic vessel generates lateral branches in order to promote lymphatic drainage, which was clearly observed from the image obtained by phase contrast imaging technology.CONCLUSION: The use of synchrotron radiation type coaxial imaging technology can be achieved for lymphedema model for micro-imaging, which has certain significance to the early diagnosis of lymphedema.

Objectives Through analyzing the published scientific papers by the professionals of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of Guangdong Province(GDCDC) from 2001 to 2006,to put forward some suggestions for the research management,the discipline development and the personnel training.Methods Literature quantitative analysis and health statistics methods were used to analyze these papers.Results The professionals of GDCDC published a total of 924 papers with an annual average of 154 in 114 kinds of periodicals from 2001 to 2006 of the 924 papers.264 papers(28.6%) were published in the key Chinese periodicals,320 papers(34.6%)in the South China Journal of Preventive Medicine,68 papers (7.4%)in the Chinese Journal of Health Laboratory Technology and 51 papers(5.5%)in the China Public Health.Of the 924 papers,433 papers(46.9%)belonged in the field of health laboratory technology,354 papers(38.3%)in the field of disease prevention and control,and 70 papers(7.6%)in the field of public health.During the six years,79.2% of the total professionals Published at least one paper,58professionals published at least six papers.Of the 924 corresponding authors.56.8% aged 30~40 years old.48.9% had a bachelor degree,and 45.9% had a senior professional title.Conclusions In recent years,the quantity and quality of papers published by the professionals of GDCDC were improved.The professional's ability to conduct scientific research was enhanced and the research level of GDCDC wag raised year by year.The predominant specialties of the academic research were in the field of health laboratory technology and disease prevention and control.But the professional work and discipline development of Public health should be sirengthened further.
