ABSTRACT

Se realizó un estudio descriptivo, longitudinal y retrospectivo de 37 pacientes con traumas oculares ocasionados por algunos juegos infantiles, atendidos en la consulta de Oftalmología del Hospital Infantil Sur "Dr. Antonio María Béguez César" de Santiago de Cuba durante 2012, con vistas a caracterizarles según variables de interés. En la serie predominaron el trauma ocular contuso en los niños de 5 a 9 años de edad, el sexo masculino, el hifema traumático como lesión más frecuente y el trompo como principal agente causal. Se demostró que existen determinados juegos que ponen en peligro la salud ocular y psíquica de los afectados.


A descriptive, longitudinal and retrospective study of 37 patients with ocular traumas caused by some infant games, assisted in the Ophthalmology Department of "Dr. Antonio María Béguez Caesar" Southern Pediatric Hospital in Santiago de Cuba was carried out during 2012, with the objective of characterizing them according to variables of interest. In the series the blunt ocular trauma in children from 5 to 9 years, the male sex, the traumatic hyphema as the most frequent lesion and the spinning top as main causal agent prevailed. It was demonstrated that certain games put in danger the ocular and psychic health of the affected ones exist.
