ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the influence of donepezil hydrochloride and hyperbaric oxygen on cognitive function in patients with vascular dementia. Methods 61 cases of patients with vascular dementia were chosen to research, and were divided into research group(31 cases)and control group(30 cases),the control group was treated with piracetam, the research group was treated with donepezil hydrochloride and hyperbaric oxygen, after 12 weeks of treatment congnitive function, daily life quality and adverse reaction between two group were compared. Results The ADL score and MMSE score between the two group had no significant difference before treatment(all P 0.05 ). Conclusion Donepezil hydrochloride combined with hyperbaric oxygen could effectively improve the cognitive function of patients with vascular dementia, and with good safety.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo observe the long-term impact of calcium phosphate (CaP) sol-gel coating on bone growth around porous-surfaced implant.

METHODSThe porous-surfaced Ti-6Al-4V implants were prepared with the addition of a thin film of CaP sol-gel coating, and implanted into the tibiae of 8 rabbits, each with two implants. Implanted sites were allowed to heal for 2, 8, 12, and 24 weeks, after which specimens were obtained for scanning electron microscope analysis using the freeze-fracture technique.

RESULTSThe sol-gel coated implants recovered by freeze-fracture technique showed extensive bone growth from the endosteum along the implant surface. The bone was in direct contact with the CaP layer. The cement line-like layer was clearly demonstrated to be an intervening electron dense afibrillar layer between the CaP coat and the overlying newly deposited bone. The stability and osseointegration of the porous-surfaced implants seemed not to be affected by the osteoclastic resorption of CaP layer occurred during 24 weeks of healing.

CONCLUSIONBased on the findings in the long-term observation, the addition of a thin layer of CaP promotes an extensive osseointegrated interface between the porous-surfaced Ti-6Al-4V implants and the newly deposited bone.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo observe the therapeutic effect of acupoint-injection combined with manipulation training on child cerebral palsy.

METHODSThe patients in the treatment group were treated with acupoint-injection combined with manipulation training and activator of brain cells, and the control group with simple manipulation training and activator of brain cells. Their therapeutic effects were compared.

RESULTSAfter treatment of 3-4 courses, the total effective rate of 92.3% in the treatment group was superior to 75.9% in the control group (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONThe therapeutic effect of acupoint-injection combined with manipulation training on child cerebral palsy is better than that of the simple manipulation training.

ABSTRACT

This study examined the cytotoxicity of a new implant material modified by microarc oxidation technique. Cells on different surfaces of the implant were evaluated 2, 4 and 6 days after treatment. The results showed that cell attachment, cell morphology, and cell proliferation were influenced by the different surface treatments, and a significant increase in the osteoblast cell activity was observed on the porous MAO-Ti coating. Our results suggest that the porous MAO-Ti surface has a better biocompatibility and electrochemical performance than pure titanium surface.

ABSTRACT

AIMTo determine the long-term outcome, effectiveness and patient satisfaction of congenital penile curvature correction by plication of tunica albuginea.

METHODSFrom January 1992 to January 2002, 106 young patients underwent surgical correction of congenital penile curvature by corporeal plication. Indications for operation were difficult or impossible vaginal penetration and cosmetic problems. The technique of corporeal plication consists of placing longitudinal plication sutures of 2-zero braided polyester on the convex side of the curvature until the curvature is corrected when erection is artificially induced. Results of this procedure were obtained by retrospective chart reviews and questionnaires via mail. Long-term follow-up ranged from 11 to 132 (mean 69.3) months and data were available for 68 patients.

RESULTSPenile straightening was excellent in 62 patients (91 %) and good with less than 15 degree of residual curvature in 6 patients (9 %). Sixty-seven patients reported no change in erectile rigidity or maintenance postoperatively, while 1 described early detumescence. Shortening of the penis without functional problems was noted by 26 patients (38 %). Thirty-Five patients (51 %) reported feeling palpable indurations (suture knots) on the penis. Temporary numbness of glans penis was described in 3 patients. Overall, 60 patients were very satisfied, 6 satisfied, 2 unsatisfied.

CONCLUSIONCorporeal plication is an effective and durable procedure with a high rate of patient satisfaction.
