ABSTRACT

Diabetes disease due to a long process, patient participation in the care of their demands. The increase of prevalence and side effects, shows that the traditional education done, not enough. Electronic education the possibility for patients to a new type of communication, care, education and patient as pivotal experience. This is a quasi-experimental design that with the goal of determining effect of electronic education of self care on type 2 diabetic patients refer to diabetic center of Kerman university of medical science in the year 1387 has been done. 170 type 2 diabetic patients with simple method of choosing a random and then the two groups and 84 and 86 patients in the control and intervention group were divided. For control group, rooting education and for intervention group electronic education for three months was trained. Before and after the intervention on research society, information related by questionnaire is collected and blood samples to fasting blood sugar and HbA1c measurements. The mean and Standard Deviation knowledge, attitude and practice of the intervention group before education 19.3 +/- 2.4, 21.4 +/- 3.9, 24.1 +/- 7.1 and after education 20.6 +/- 5.5, 22.8 +/- 6.9, 32.2 +/- 6.5, that was just in intervention group is significant difference [P<0.05]. The mean and Standard Deviation fasting blood sugar and HbA1c in the intervention group before education 223.8 +/- 77.2 mg/dl, 9.5 +/- 1.9 percent and after education 167.5 +/- 55.2 mg/dl, 8.4 +/- 1.6 percent, and only in the intervention group is significant difference [P<0.01]. Electronic education improve the self care of type 2 diabetic patients in the intervention group after education, That has caused improve the mean fasting blood sugar and HbA1c. According to the benefits of electronic education, using and planning of this method is recommended

ABSTRACT

Students theses are very important and taking it into accont is an essential consideration for developing future research studies. Thus, this study was designed to investigate theses structure and observance of basic scientific writing guidelines by MSc Nutrsing students of Kerman University of Medical Sciences. In this descriptive study, 75 MSc Nursing theses were chosen randomly and analysed for different aspects including general characteristic, content and structure. Data gathering instrument was a questionnaire designed based on the critical appraisal. Data was then analysed by SPSS software. Total score in the 16 research methodology indices was 84.92 +/- 10.37 out of 114 which was acceptable based on the likert scale. Most accordance [86.7%] was related to the correct writing and least accordance was related to abstract [29.3%]. Theses written in recent years and supervised by two advisors had a better quality. Findings of this study showed an improving trend in the writing of theses. For promotion of quality of thesis writing, the educational programs and courses should be updated and more workshops focused on research methodolosy are warranted

ABSTRACT

Objective Structured Clinical Examination [OSCE] is an appropriate method for evaluating students' clinical competencies. This study was performed to determine the viewpoints of clinical teachers towards clinical evaluation through OSCE in Kerman University of Medical Sciences. In this descriptive study, all clinical teachers in the fields of medicine, dentistry, nursing, midwifery and heath in Kerman University of Medical Sciences [N=266] were included as the study population. The response rate was 74.4%. A researcher-made questionnaire consisted of 5 domains of cultural, facilities, technical information, time, and characteristics of the test, was used for data collection. The data was analyzed using ANOVA, t-test, Spearman and Pear son correlation coefficient. From 198 participants in this study, more than half of them were male [55.1%] with the mean age of 47.8 +/- 4.7. The most frequent academic rank, study discipline and university degree were assistant professor, medicine and PhD or specialty or sub-specialty, respectively. The most agreement was on the facilities domain [14.9 +/- 2.526] and the lowest agreement was related to the technical information domain [8.91 +/- 2.77]. There was a difference between the viewpoints of the clinical teachers based on the variables of educational degree, discipline, academic rank, educational experience and clinical services. Although there are problems and barriers for performing OSCE such as lack of facilities and time consuming feature of this method, they can be handled and ignored due to the advantages of this method in clinical skills evaluation. Application of this method through providing proper grounds and overcoming its barriers is recommend for all educational programs

ABSTRACT

Centers presenting clinical skills training in medical schools improve the students' ability in practical skills, provide an appropriate setting to practice in an experimental setting and prevent probable mistakes in a real setting. This study is an attempt to determine the interns' attitudes in Kerman University of Medical Sciences about the amount and the resources of acquiring elementary clinical skills through self-assessment. All interns, who passed the clinical skills course, participated in this cross- sectional study in 2004. A researcher made questionnaire was used to gather the data and t-test and ANOVA were used to analyze them. Most of the respondents believed a separate center as clinical skills center was necessary. Vital signs measurement, NG-tube placement and communicating with patients [18,35,17,76, and 17,3, respectively] got the highest scores in acquiring skills [stagger's self-assessment] and the lowest scores were for cauterization, intubations and surgical tools identification [9,09, 12,84 and 14,11, respectively]. The mean of self-assessment score was 76, 7%. The most used resources to acquire skills were clinical skills ward [41%], self-learning [29%] and the professors and others [27%]. Since the self-assessment score was low and as the clinical skills center was used the most to acquire skills, improving training in this center and expanding its activities is necessary

ABSTRACT

Proper communication between a physician and a patient is the key to diagnosis and management of diseases. Communication skills are essential for gathering information from patients, enhancing patients trust on physicians, relaxing them and managing them. The main purpose of this study was to determine the states of communication skills of medical interns to communicate with patients. In this cross sectional study, communication skills of 72 medical interns of Kerman Medical University was assessed based on a checklist completed with direct observation and a questionnaire completed through interview with patients. The checklist included two parts: the first part for individual characteristics and the second part for 24 specifications related to initiation of an interview, conducting an interview and completion of an interview. Another questionnaire with a similar structure was developed to gather patients' comments about communication of medical interns with them. Communication skills of medical interns were weak in 29.3%, moderate in 85.4% and good in 15.9% of interns. An agreement between observed communication skills and patients' survey results about greeting, asking patients' names and calling them by their names, acceptable physicians' appearance, listening to patients' words, friendly doctor- patient encounter, empathizing with patients [0.37, 0.26, 0.22.0.41 and 0.44 respectively] was seen. Results of individual variables show that relationship between age of patient and his or her opinion about communication was significant. Based on patient's survey, the communication score given to the student increases with age of the patient. The study shows deficits in doctor-patient communication of medical interns in history taking. Given the importance of communication skills, the necessity to teach them in clinical skill centers before real contact with patients is obvious
