ABSTRACT

Oral care and using mouthwash help to prevent stomatitis. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of two mouth wash protocols on prevention of head and neck radiotherapy induced-stomatitis. In this single blind clinical trial, 120 individual were recruited. The experiment group [N=40] gurgled with 3cc of Matrices mouthwash and the control group used water mouth wash. The participants were assessed using the WHO grading scale. Data were analyzed using the Fisher exact test and Mann-Whitney U test as appropriate. There was not significant differences between the experimental and control groups regarding stomatitis intensity in the first day [P=0.371]. There were significant differences between the two groups regarding stomatitis intensity in days 7 and 14 [P<0.001]. Oral stomatitis is a common condition in patients with head and neck radiotherapy. It makes painful ulcers, dehydration, malnutrition, and potentially life-threatening infection. Matrica mouth wash could prevent and treat induced-radiotherapy ulcer stomatitis

ABSTRACT

Objective [s]: To determine how nurses manage intercultural communication with their patients

Methods: The type of this qualitative study was content analysis. 21 nurses were participated in this study. Sampling was purposeful. They have a diversity of age, sex, clinical experiences and different positions. Data were collected via unstructured interview. Content analysis and constant comparative analysis method was used for data analysis. The strategies of prolonged engagement, peer debriefing, member checking and journal writing were used to establish the trustworthiness of the study

Results: Data analysis showed that various strategies were used for inter cultural communication such as: member of family, secretaries of ward, nonverbal communication, using the previous vocabulary, and also translators. Different strategies such as relatives, bilingual and bicultural nurse, orderly, secretary of the ward, nonverbal language, use of previous words and translators are used

Conclusion: According to the results, it can be concluded that nurses when patients are facing cultural diversity, based on their professional and moral obligation, use a combination of strategies to provide complete and effective care

ABSTRACT

Background and Objective: Ethical competency in nursing means performing nursing cares based on bioethics. This type of competency is an important factor in improving the quality of nursing cares. Realizing the obstacles of acquiring ethical qualification by nursing students is one of the basic necessities towards nursing education development. The development of ethical competency is one of the most important strategies which can help in improving nursing students' capabilities and professional development. This study aimed to identify the barriers to acquiring ethical qualification by nursing students through content analysis of their experiences

Methods: A qualitative study was conducted using a content analysis approach. Convenience sampling was employed to select 25 nursing students studying in nursing schools of Tehran public universities, Tehran, Iran. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, which were tape recorded and transcribed verbatim. Data were analyzed using descriptive content analysis approach according to Graneheim and Lundman method. Results: Eight themes emerged from data analyses including lack of motivation and interest of the students in their profession, insufficient self-awareness, the shortage of expert nursing instructors in ethics science, inadequacy of curriculum, inappropriate ethical teaching methods, problems in evaluation of ethical characteristics, poor interpersonal relationships and constraints in clinical setting

Conclusion: It seems that in developing nursing student's ethical competency, both contexts and individuals have a role. Therefore, barriers of ethical competency should be sought in various aspects. The present study provides special classification of obstacles that because of growing from a unique study context can be helpful in planning for the development of professional nursing ethics in education and clinical services. Also the findings of this study can provide a base for further researches on this subject?

ABSTRACT

Intramuscular injection is one of the effective methods of drug administration. Yet the procedure is painful and avoided if at all possible. This study examines the effectiveness of simultaneous rhythmic breathing and Z- track method in prone position with foot internal rotation on reducing the pain of intramuscular injection. This quasi experimental [before and after] study included 100 patients who had intramuscular injection of Metocarbamol. Standard method was evaluated against the combination of rhythmic breathing and Z - track method in prone position with foot internal rotation. Pain intensity was measured before and after intervention using visual analog scale. Descriptive statistic was used for demographic information. Means were compared on paired T-test. While before the intervention, 57% and 43% of the patients had severe and very severe pain respectively, after the intervention 24% of the patients experienced a mild pain with 67% reporting a moderate one. In addition, a statically significant difference was observed between the pain intensity means before and after intervention [p<0.0001]. Based on the results, simultaneous rhythmic breathing and Z - track method in prone position with foot internal rotation could reduce the pain associated with intramuscular injection of Metacarbamol
