ABSTRACT

Thyroid function was studied in 30 patients with endometrial cancer and a similar number of control subjects matched for age, weight and years of menopause. Serum T3 concentrations were significantly reduced; median, 1.1 nmo1/L [range, 0.3-2.5 nmo1/L]; compared to normal subjects; median 1.8 nmo1/L [range, 0.1-3.3 nmo1/L] p< 0.001. The free T3 index was reduced accordingly, serum TSH levels were significantly increased in patients with endometrial cancer: median, 2.3 uIU/ml [range, 0.4-5.1 ulU/m1]; compared to normal subjects: median 1,81 uIU/ml [range, 0.4-3.1 uIU/ml p> 0.048. No significant differences were found in T3 resin uptake, free T4 index, or serum T4 levels between the two groups. Our data demonstrate that postmenopausal women with endometrial cancer have low thyroid function tests compared to age, weight and years of menopause matched postmenoposal women
