El aburrimiento crónico (acidia) es un estado espiritual negativo del ser humano, constituido por una combinación de apatía e intranquilidad, el cual lo lleva a oscilar entre la depresión y la búsqueda frenética de distracciones de carácter autodestructivo. Además, su combinación con rasgos psicopáticos deviene en el cultivo de la malevolencia como forma aberrante de distracción. Gustave Flaubert reflejó perfectamente esta condición en el personaje de Emma en su obra Madame Bovary. (AU)
Chronic boredom (acedia) is a negative spiritual state of man, consisting of a combination of apathy and restlessness, which leads him/her to oscillate between depression and the frantic search for distractions of self-destructive character. Additionally, its combination with the presence of psychopathic traits leads do evil as a way to relieve boredom. Gustave Flaubert perfectly reflected this condition in the character of Emma in his masterpiece Madame Bovary. (AU)
