Quince años en la Historia de la Humanidad se pierden en la longevidad de los siglos, pero 15 años para la Revista Habanera de Ciencias Médicas significan unos cuantos años ya de un desarrollo ininterrumpido de trabajo científico, profesional e investigativo, cuyos resultados estaremos reseñando a lo largo de este artículo. Qué mejor fecha que la escogida para su fundación, que un 28 de enero, en 2002, cuando se estaban cumpliendo 149 años de la llegada al mundo del más universal de los cubanos, de aquel que con su verbo encendido le cantó al amor, a la Naturaleza, a la vida; quien tuvo hermosos sueños y amargas realidades, que proclamara al mundo la necesidad de obtener la preciada libertad para su país y que supiera morir por ella en el umbral de una guerra de la cual había sido su artífice y quien en su Centenario fuera el autor intelectual de uno de los más trascendentales hechos históricos de nuestra Patria: José Martí y Pérez, nuestro Apóstol, nuestro Héroe Nacional. Hoy, en otro 28 de enero, y al conmemorar el XV Aniversario de creada la revista, nos retrotraemos a la fecha de inicio para percatarnos de lo alcanzado hasta la actualidad, conscientes de que en estas pocas páginas no podemos resumir toda la labor desplegada en estos 15 años; trataremos, eso sí, de traer aspectos históricos que reflejen el quehacer en todo este tiempo.....

Fifteen years in the History of Humanity are lost in the longevity of the centuries, but 15 years for the Habanera Journal of Medical Sciences means a few years of uninterrupted development of scientific, professional and investigative work, the results of which we will be reviewing as throughout this article. What better date than the one chosen for its foundation, than on January 28, 2002, when 149 years of the arrival to the world of the most universal of Cubans was being celebrated, the one who with his lighted verb sang to love, to Nature, to life; who had beautiful dreams and bitter realities, who proclaimed to the world the need to obtain the precious freedom for his country and who knew how to die for it on the threshold of a war of which it had been its architect and who in its Centennial was the intellectual author of one of the most important historical events of our Country: José Martí and Pérez, our Apostle, our National Hero. Today, on another January 28, and as we commemorate the XV Anniversary of the creation of the magazine, we go back to the start date to realize what has been achieved to date, aware that in these few pages we cannot summarize all the work carried out in these 15 years; Yes, we will try to bring historical aspects that reflect the work in all this time.....

Profesor Fidel Cathcart Roca: Ejemplo en la enseñanza e investigación en la Educación Médica / Professor Fidel Cathcart Roca: Example of the teaching and investigation in the Medical Education

Fidel Cathcart Roca nació en un modesto hogar proletario, el 22 de marzo de 1941, en Santiago de Cuba. Cursó sus estudios primarios en esta ciudad (1946-1955), en la Escuela Anexa a la Escuela Normal para Maestros; estudió el bachillerato en el Instituto de Segunda Enseñanza de Santiago de Cuba (1955 a 1960), al tiempo que cursaba la Ayudantía de Laboratorio en la Escuela de Agrimensura. En 1962, concluiría la carrera de Técnico de Laboratorio Clínico en la Escuela de Salud Pública de La Habana. Asimismo, cursó la carrera de Economía en la Facultad de Ciencias Económicas y Comerciales de la Universidad de Oriente (1961 hasta 1966); desde 1963 hasta 1966, durante los estudios de Economista, fue Instructor no Graduado y al terminar la carrera fue nombrado como Instructor Graduado. En 1967, fue designado para trabajar en el Instituto Nacional de Reforma Agraria (INRA), en su Organismo Central, y, más tarde, en los organismos centrales del Ministerio de Comunicaciones e Industria Alimentaria.....

Fidel Cathcart Roca was born in a modest proletarian home on March 22, 1941, in Santiago de Cuba. He completed his primary studies in this city (1946-1955), in the School Annexed to the Normal School for Teachers; He studied baccalaureate at the Instituto de Segunda Enseñanza in Santiago de Cuba (1955 to 1960), while he was attending the Laboratory Assistantship at the School of Surveying. In 1962, he would finish his career as a Clinical Laboratory Technician at the School of Public Health in Havana. Likewise, he studied Economics at the Faculty of Economic and Commercial Sciences of the Universidad de Oriente (1961 to 1966); From 1963 to 1966, during his studies as an Economist, he was an Undergraduate Instructor and when he finished his degree he was appointed as a Graduate Instructor. In 1967, he was appointed to work at the National Institute for Agrarian Reform (INRA), in its Central Organism, and, later, in the central organisms of the Ministry of Communications and Food Industry.....
