ABSTRACT

Polycystic ovary syndrome [PCOS] is one of the most prevalent endocrine disorders in reproductive age and is also considered as the most popular cause of infertility due to lack of ovary release. On the other hand, present condition of high expenses of infertility treatment and midwifery science slogan as "deliver a healthy infant to a healthy mother" all reflect the necessity to take care of these patients and to check their pregnancy stages precisely. This study aimed to investigate the pregnancy complications among patients with polycystic ovary syndrome. This was an analytic prospective cohort study. The population studied comprised all Iranian nullipars women with pregnancy of one quite healthy fetus. They were divided into two groups including 47 subjects with PCOS and 100 subjects with no PCOS. Pregnancy and delivery complications such as pregnancy sweat, diabetes, eclampsy and early delivery were recorded. The data were collected through interview and analyzed by descriptive inferential statistics through SPSS . The findings of the study showed that the rates of abnormalities in screening tests of diabetes, pregnancy diabetes and eclampsy in pregnant women with PCOS were more than those in controls but there was no significant difference between the two groups in early delivery. Since obesity seems to be the major cause of diabetes and eclampsy in patients with PCOS, these patients need critical care during pregnancy and screen them properly for diabetes and eclampsy

ABSTRACT

Background: severe nausea and vomiting during pregnancy is one of the most frequent and difficult to treat obstetric problems. Different drugs and techniques have been suggested for its treatment with variable success rates. This study was designed to compare the efficacy of prednisolone with promethazine for treatment of hyperemesis gravidarum

Methods: fifty six pregnant women with hyperemesis gravidarum were randomly divided into two groups to receive either prednisolone or promethazine orally. Severity of nausea and vomiting, severity of malaise, body weight and serum electrolytes were measured and compared before and after treatment

Results: the severity of nausea and vomiting decreased significantly in both groups, but the decrease was significantly higher in the prednisolone group

Conclusion: the result of this study shows that oral prednisolone is a better choice for the treatment of hyperemesis gravidarum

ABSTRACT

The factors affecting learning have been always under special consideration by educational experts. It seems necessary to learn about students' study habits, styles and resources to realize their weaknesses and strengths, and make suggestions regarding educational revisions based on this information. This study was performed to determine medical students, interns and residents study styles in obstetrics and gynecology department in Shahid Beheshti Hospital of Isfahan. In a descriptive study, 260 medical students, interns and residents were studied through a simple random sampling. The data gathering tool was a questionnaire whose validity was confirmed by content validity and its reliability by test/re-test. The data was analyzed by SPSS software using relative and absolute frequency. 45% of the students and 50% of interns studied books during the semester and used their notes for the exam as a study resource. The residents always used books. Most students, interns and residents studied translated books. Forty two point five percent of them had a special hour for the study and most of them studied during the night. Being married, having children and residents' responsibilities at the hospital were the most important barriers for studying in this group. The study method, duration and resources used by students, interns and residents were inadequate and require some changes. It is also recommended to provide them with education and facilities in this regard
