ABSTRACT
A disfunção temporomandibular (DTM) é uma doença que acomete principalmente os músculos da mastigação acarretando em alterações funcionais mandibulares. A terapia atual para a disfunção temporomandibular não é totalmente efetiva. Com o intuito de se solucionar este problema, a toxina botulínica tipo A foi introduzida como mais um método terapêutica alternativo para pacientes que sofrem desta desordem. Este trabalho discute as indicações, contra-indicações, técnica de aplicação e possíveis efeitos colaterais da droga.
The temporomandibular dysfunction is a disease that affects the mastigatory muscles, causing mandibular functional disorders. The therapy to temporomandibular disorders is not well established at this moment. The type A botulinum toxin was introduced as an alternative therapeutic method for this disorders. This paper will discuss indications, contra-indications, technique and side effects of the drug.
