ABSTRACT

@#Introduction: Balanced nutrition and the use of dairy products, because of their nutrients, is one of the basic pillars of health and can be effective in increasing educational efficiency. The present study aimed to determine predictors of dairy consumption in students of Shahr-e Kord University of Medical Sciences using the health belief model. Methods: The present research was a descriptive-analytical study which was conducted on 351 students of Shahr-e Kord University of Medical Sciences in 2017. The participants were selected using cluster sampling. The required data were collected through a three-part questionnaire (demographic variables, constructs of the Health Belief Model, and items related to the dairy consumption behavior) and then statistically analyzed using descriptive statistics and analytical tests (Pearson correlation and regression analysis) in SPSS-18. Results: The results showed that 45.9% of male students and only 12.7% of females used dairy products every day (p<0.000). Except for perceived benefits, there was no significant difference between male and female students in the mean score of other constructs (p<0.05). The results of multiple regression analysis indicated that perceived susceptibility in male students and perceived self-efficacy in female students are the main predictors of dairy consumption behavior. Conclusions: Based on the study findings, perceived susceptibility and perceived self-efficacy, as the most important predictors of dairy consumption behavior in university students, should be emphasized in the development of training interventions.

ABSTRACT

Postpartum thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura [TTP] should be considered in thrombocytopenic patients. The patient was a 28-year-old pregnant woman referred for cesarean section. After CS, hysterectomy was done due to uncontrolled vaginal bleeding. Peripheral blood smear confirmed the TTP diagnosis. Plasmapheresis was initiated and platelets were infused. Six hours after infusion, tonic-colonic seizure, left hemiplegia and bell's palsy appeared. Brain CT Scan revealed intracranial hemorrhage. 28 plasmapheresis sessions were performed and finally, she was discharged with good general condition

ABSTRACT

Cardiovascular diseases are among the most common causes of death and disability in patients with type 2 diabetes. According to some studies, Vitamin D deficiency is associated with risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. The aim of this study was to compare the serum level of Vitamin D between diabetic patients with coronary artery diseases and control group. In this case-control study, patients with diabetes referred to Shahid Beheshti Hospital of Qom for coronary angiography, were divided into two groups of positive angiography [case group] and negative angiography [control group]. In this study, stenosis of the lumen of at least one coronary artery more than 50% was considered as positive angiography and suffering from coronary artery disease, and stenosis lower than 50% was considered as negative angiography. Personal characteristics, biographical information, consisting of age, gender, history of hypertension, hyperlipidemia, smoking, history of coronary artery disease, and family history were recorded using a questionnaire. Venous blood samples of the patients were taken to measure the serum level of 25-hydroxy Vitamin D, and the two groups were compared in terms of Vitamin D level. The mean serum level of 25-hydroxy Vitamin D was 35.09 +/- 26.41ng/ml. Also, there was no significant difference between case and control groups. The level was 35.67 +/- 29.58ng/ml in the case group and 34.50 +/- 23.30ng/ml in control group. The level of Vitamin D in patients with cardiac disease had no significant difference. The results of this study indicated that there was no relationship between serum level of 25-hydroxy Vitamin D in type 2 diabetic patients and stenosis of coronary arteries

ABSTRACT

Various environmental factors can induce or exaggerate hand eczema. Evaluation of patch test results in hand eczema patients. In this descriptive study 100 patients with hand eczema referred to Loghman Hakim and Booali Hospital in Tehran underwent patch testing with 23 allergens obtained from Hermalcompany. 240 positive reactions observed in 86 patients. The most common positive reactions were related to nickel sulfate [30 patients, 13.5%] and potassium dichromate [28 patients, 11.7%]. In positive group 28 patients were male and 58 were female. In negative group 3 patients were male and 11 were female [P > 0.05]. The mean age was 31.7 +/- 11.9 years and 24.8 +/- 9.2 years for positive group and negative group, respectively [P < 0.05]. In positive patch test group 49 patients had subacute and 37 patients had chronic eczema. In negative patch test 11 patients had subacute eczema and 3 patients had chronic eczema [P > 0.05]. Performing patch test, the allergens involved in hand eczema can be detected. Detecting type of allergens, patients will be able to avoid those materials, which can lead to improvement of disease
