ABSTRACT

Objective:To determine the effect of comprehensive measures at reducing mosquito density in residential parking lot, and to provide scientific evidence for exploring a new mosquito density control mode in parking lot. Methods:During April to October in 2018, a package of measures were implemented in the observation group, including designating a full-time staff, combination of property management and mosquito eradication work, continual clean-up of breeding ground, appropriate use of pesticide, education and training of pest control knowledge, and so on. No intervention was conducted in the control group. Then we observed the effect of the above measures in reducing mosquito density. Results:After the implementation of the comprehensive measures, the average adult mosquito density and infant positive rate of ponding mosquitoes in the residential parking lot in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group. The mosquito positive rate in rainwater well, sewage well, drainage ditch and intercepting ditch in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group. There were no statistically significant difference between the observation group and the control group in the adult mosquito density and the infant positive rate of ponding mosquito in April. Conclusion:Through a package of comprehensive prevention and control measures, mosquito density in the parking lot at residential areas can be effectively reduced. However, there are still some resistances in the implementation process of measures, which need to be constantly optimized to achieve better on-site prevention and control effect.

ABSTRACT

In the pharmacopoeia, many process parameters for the purification process of Scutellariae Radix are unclear. In this study, deterministic screening design combined with design space method was used to optimize the purification process of Scutellariae Radix extract. Nine method parameters such as mass fraction of solution(X_1), first acid precipitation pH(X_2) and first holding time(X_3) in the purification process were firstly studied by definitive screening design. The yield of baicalin was defined as the evaluation index. A stepwise regression method was used then to build quantitative models between evaluation index and method parameters and the three most critical impact parameters were determined. Probability-based design space was calculated and successfully verified with the experimental error simulation method. Finally, the second standing temperature, the first standing temperature and the pH value of the second acid precipitation were determined as the three most critical method parameters. The recommended operating space was as follows: the second standing temperature 5-7 ℃, the first standing temperature 13-15 ℃, and the pH of the second acid precipitation 1.5-1.7. Within this operating space, the baicalin yield in the purification process was over 80%, and the probability of reaching the standard was over 0.96. In this study, we optimized the effect of various parameters for the purification process of the Scutellariae Radix extract in the pharmacopoeia on the yield of baicalin and provided a reference for industrial production of the exact of Scutellariae Radix.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Inflammatory microenvironment of nucleus pulposus cells is an important factor to promote nucleus pulposus degeneration. Inflammatory factors amplify the cascade of inflammation by activating the nuclear factor-κB signaling pathway to form a vicious cycle and accelerate the process of nucleus pulposus degeneration. It could delay the progression of intervertebral disc degeneration by inhibiting the activity of nuclear factor-κB signaling pathway. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the mechanism of Pheretima extract on nucleus pulposus cell degeneration. METHODS: Pheretima active ingredients were extracted by cold dipping. The cell counting kit-8 method was used to detect the effects of 0, 25, 50, 100, 200, 400 mg/L Pheretima extract on rat nucleus pulposus cell activity, and then suitable drug concentrations were chosen for following research. Tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) was used to stimulate nucleus pulposus cells to induce the nucleus pulposus cell degeneration model. Pheretima extracts (50, 100, 200 mg/L) were used to treat the cell model. Western blot was used to detect the expression of Aggrecan, Collagen II, TNF-α and interleukin-6. RT-qPCR was used to detect mRNA expression of TNF-α and interleukin-6. Immunofluorescence was used to detect the nuclear expression of P65 in the nucleus pulposus cells. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Compared with the blank group (0 mg/L), 400 mg/L Pheretima extract inhibited the activity of nucleus pulposus cells, and 50, 100, 200 mg/L extracts of Pheretima were used for subsequent experimental research. Compared with the normal group, the expression of Aggrecan and Collagen II in the model group was reduced, the protein and mRNA expression levels of TNF-α and interleukin-6 were up-regulated, and P65 expression increased in the nucleus. Compared with the model group, Pheretima extract could increase the expression of Aggrecan and Collagen II, down-regulate the protein and mRNA levels of TNF-α and interleukin-6, and reduce P65 expression in the nucleus. To conclude, Pheretima extract can reduce the expression of inflammatory factors, increase the synthesis of extracellular matrix and inhibit nuclear factor-κB pathway activity. Pheretima extract may ameliorate nucleus pulposus cell degeneration in the intervertebral disc via the nuclear factor-κB signaling pathway.

ABSTRACT

ObjectiveBone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) can promote ovarian angiogenesis, improve ovarian insufficiency caused by chemotherapy, and repair ovarian function, while heat shock pretreatment can reduce the apoptosis rate of stem cells and improve the therapeutic effect of stem cells. This study aims to investigate the effect of heat shock pretreatment on MSCs, and further study the effect of heat shock pretreated mesenchymal stem cells on chemotherapy-induced apoptosis of ovarian granulosa cells.Methods1. The bone marrow-derived MSCs of rats were isolated, cultured and identified, and pretreated within a 42 °C water bath for one hour. 2. Cisplatin (5 mg/L) was added to MSCs to simulate the local microenvironment of chemotherapy. MSCs were divided into four groups: blank control group, heat shock control group, model group, and heat shock model group. The effects of heat shock pretreatment on the proliferation, apoptosis and survival rate of MSCs were investigated by CCK-8 method, Hoechst33342/PI, and flow cytometry. 3. We isolate and culture rat ovarian granulosa cells (GCs) to establish an in vitro model of GCs injury under the induction of cisplatin (5 mg/L). The experiment was carried out in four groups: a control group, model group, MSCs model group, HS-MSCs model group. The apoptosis and survival rate were detected by Hoechst33342/PI and flow cytometry, respectively.Results1. The proliferation level and survival rate of MSCs in the heat shock control group were significantly higher than those in the other three groups, and the apoptosis rate was significantly lower than the other three groups (P<0.05). Compared to the model group, the proliferation level of the heat shock model group was significantly increased, and the apoptosis rate was significantly decreased (P<0.05), and the cell survival rate increased; 2. The apoptosis rate of GCs in the HS-MSCs model group was significantly lower than that in the other three groups. Compared to the MSCs model group, the apoptosis rate of GCs in the HS-MSCs model group was significantly decreased (P<0.05).ConclusionHeat shock pretreatment can increase the proliferation level and survival rate of MSCs, and reduce its apoptosis rate. Heat shock pretreated stem cells can effectively inhibit chemotherapy-induced apoptosis of ovarian granulosa cells.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To compare the effect and mechanisms of modified Erchentang and Xuefu Zhuyutang on high-fat diet-induced apolipoprotein-E knockout (ApoE-/-) mice nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Method:Ten C57/BL6J mice were taken as normal control group and fed with normal feed. Totally 30 ApoE-/- mice were fed with high-fat diet to establish a disease model for 4 weeks. After 4 weeks, the 30 ApoE-/- mice were divided into model group, Xuefu Zhuyutang group (hereinafter referred to as Huoxue group) and modified Erchentang group (hereinafter referred to as Huatan group) by random number table method, with 10 in each group. The normal group and the model group were intragastrically administered with normal saline. The drug-administered group was intragastrically administered at a dosage that was ten times of the adult dose, once a day, for 8 weeks. Serum and liver were collected after the end of the 12-week experiment. The serum lipid and liver function levels of each group were measured, and the liver pathological morphology was observed. Protein and mRNA expressions of liver inflammatory mediators interleukin-1β (IL-1β), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9), monocyte chemotactic factor-1 (MCP-1) were detected by Real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction(Real-time PCR) and Western blot. Result:The results of serum lipids and liver function showed that compared with the normal group, serum total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) in the model group were significantly increased, while serum high-density lipoprotein (HDL) was significantly reduced (P<0.01). Compared with the model group, serum TG ,LDL and ALT were significantly decreased, HDL was significantly increased in the Huoxue group (P<0.05). The serum levels of TC, TG, LDL, AST and ALT in the Huatan group were significantly decreased,HDL was significantly increased (P<0.05,P<0.01), and TG was decreased. The mice serum HDL in the Huatan group was higher than that in the Huoxue group. The serum ALT in the Huoxue group was lower than that in the Huatan group. The pathological observation showed that compared with the normal group, hepatocytes in the model group had severe steatosis with many lipid droplet vacuoles, suggesting that the mouse NAFLD model was successful. Compared with the model group, each administration group alleviated hepatocyte steatosis, with no significant difference between the two administration groups. Western blot and Real-time PCR results showed that compared with the normal group, protein and mRNA expression levels of TNF-α, IL-1β, MCP-1, and MMP-9 in the model group were significantly increased (P<0.05,P<0.01). Compared with the model group, the Huoxue group significantly down-regulated the expressions of IL-1β, MCP-1 protein and MCP-1 mRNA(P<0.05,P<0.01). The Huatan group significantly reduced the expressions of IL-1β, TNF-α, MMP-9, MCP-1 protein, TNF-α and MMP-9 mRNA(P<0.05,P<0.01). Conclusion:Modified Erchentang and Xuefu Zhuyutang can alleviate the therapeutic effect of NAFLD mice to a certain extent, modified Erchentang has a better therapeutic effect.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Accurate and minimally invasive surgery procedure has become the pursuit of the current surgical goals. With the rapid development of intelligent robots, the precise and minimally invasive treatment of fractures has become an irresistible trend. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of robot-assisted percutaneous reduction and minimally invasive internal fixation for Schatzker II-III tibial plateau fractures. METHODS: Clinical data of patients with Schatzker II-III tibial plateau fractures who received robot- (n=22, robot-assisted group) and traditional fluoroscopy (n=26, traditional group)-assisted internal fixation at Tianjin Hospital from April 2017 to August 2018 were analyzed retrospectively. All patients suffered from unilateral, closed, and fresh tibial plateau fractures. Statistical indicators included: incision length, operation time, intraoperative blood loss, number of fluoroscopy, one-time success rate of screw, hospitalization time, fracture healing time, total weight-bearing time and postoperative complications. At the last follow-up, the range of motion of knee was recorded. The function of knee was evaluated by Rasmussen’s imaging and clinical score. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: (1) There was no significant difference in the baseline data between two groups (P > 0.05). (2) Compared with the traditional group, the robot-assisted group was better in the intraoperative blood loss, incision length, number of fluoroscopy, total number of drilled screws for fixation, average hospitalization time, fracture healing time, total weight-bearing time, and one-time success rate of fixation screw placement (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in the operation time between two groups (P=0.932). (3) The range of motion of knee and Rasmussen clinical function score in the robot-assisted group were superior to those in the traditional group (P < 0.05). (4) There were fewer postoperative complications in the robot-assisted group compared with traditional group. (5) These results indicate that robot-assisted percutaneous reduction and minimally internal fixation for the treating Schatzker II-III tibial plateau fracture are satisfactory. It has obvious advantages in minimally invasive surgery, precise reduction, rigid fixation and accelerated postoperative rehabilitation.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To explore the potential pathogenetic mutations of primary hypereosinophilia(HEN)by sequencing FGFR1 FLT3, MPL and JAK2 genes, and to clarify their effect on clinical manifestation and prognosis of HEN patients.@*METHODS@#The direct DNA sequencing was employed to detect the gene mutations of FGFR1, FLT3, MPL and JAK2 in HEN patients.@*RESULTS@#One deletion mutation (2654_2753del) within tyrosine kinase domain of FLT3 gene was found in a patient suffered from severe symptoms and ended with dismal outcome, which induced a premature stop codon (G885fsX888). For FGFR1, a new variation described as 1014_1019del AACAGT for nucleotide change was found in 19 cases, resulting in T339_V340del at the protein level.@*CONCLUSION@#The deletion of 6 bases in the FGFR1 gene (1014_1019del AACAGT) is first reported as non-synonymous SNP (nsSNP) site in the patients with primary hypereosinophilia. Deletion mutations in the FLT3 gene may be related with malignant clinical features and poor prognosis.

ABSTRACT

Dendrobium officinale is not only an ornamental plant, but also a valuable medicinal herb that is widely used in traditional Chinese medicine. However, distinguishing D. officinale from other Dendrobium species is usually a difficult task. In this study, we developed a rapid identification protocol for D. officinale using the loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) method. A set of primers were specifically designed to detect a modified internal transcribed spacer region of D. officinale at 65 °C within 40 min after adding SYBR Green I, which was used for the detection of D. officinale. Unlike commonly used adulterants, reaction mixtures containing D. officinale DNA changed from orange to green, and this color change was easily observed with the naked eye. Thus, this methodology can be used to accurately differentiate D. officinale from other Dendrobium species, is quick as all D. officinale samples were amplified within 40 min, and specific as samples of the adulterants were not amplified. The specificity of this LAMP-based method was confirmed by testing 17 samples of D. officinale and 32 adulterant samples from other Dendrobium species. This LAMP-based rapid identification method does not require expensive equipment or specialized techniques and can be used in field surveys for accurate and fast on-site identification.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To investigate the correlation between the stenosis degree of superior mesenteric artery (SMA) and each artery within the scope of aorto-iliac artery in patients with lower extremity atherosclerotic occlusive disease (LEAOD).@*Methods@#Images of 70 patients who had undergone the aorta-iliac-femoral arteries CT angiography (CTA) examination and had a definite diagnosis of LEAOD due to intermittent claudication or resting pain admitted to Tianjin Hospital from January to December in 2017 were enrolled. The arteries in the aorta as well as iliac were surface-reconstructed, which were analyzed by advanced vascular analysis (AVA) combined with the original images, including SMA trunk, abdominal aorta (AA), left and right common iliac artery (LCIA, RCIA), left and right internal iliac artery (LIIA, RIIA), left and right external iliac artery (LEIA, REIA). The normal reference plane and the maximal stenosis plane were selected, and the stenosis rate of each artery in the reconstruction range was automatically calculated with software. The patient's imaging data were divided into groups with two methods: ① according to the degree of SMA stenosis, the patients were divided into group Ⅰ (stenosis degree ≤70%) and groupⅡ (stenosis degree > 70%); ② LEAOD patients with different gender were respectively divided into three groups: middle-aged group (45-59 years old), pre-elderly group (60-74 years old) and elderly group (75-89 years old). The comparison between the stenosis degree of SMA and each artery within the scope of aorto-iliac artery was analyzed with Pearson simple correlation analysis.@*Results@#The incidence of SMA stenosis in all LEAOD patients was 100%. Correlation analysis showed that there was no correlation between the stenosis degree of SMA and AA, LCIA, RCIA, LIIA, RIIA, LEIA, or REIA in group Ⅰ (n = 64) and group Ⅱ (n = 6), respectively (r value was -0.021, 0.023, 0.023, -0.137, 0.182, -0.113, 0.141, respectively, in group Ⅰ, and it was 0.020, -0.560, 0.010, 0.306, -0.204, -0.381, 0.393, respectively, in group Ⅱ, all P > 0.05). In 52 male patients, there was no correlation between the stenosis degree of SMA and AA, LCIA, RCIA, LIIA, RIIA, LEIA, or REIA in middle-aged group (n = 16), pre-elderly group (n = 27) and elderly group (n = 9), respectively (r value was -0.032, 0.024, 0.324, 0.146, 0.312, 0.008, 0.344, respectively, in middle-aged group, it was -0.108, -0.116, -0.040, -0.249, -0.082, -0.052, 0.096, respectively, in pre-elderly group, and it was 0.182, 0.311, 0.400, 0.360, 0.688, 0.498, 0.406, respectively, in elderly group, all P > 0.05). In 18 female patients, there was also no correlation between the stenosis degree of SMA and above each artery within the scope of aorto-iliac artery in pre-elderly group (n = 11) and elderly group (n = 6), respectively (the r value was -0.170, 0.040, -0.019, 0.152, 0.508, 0.042, 0.456, respectively, in pre-elderly group, and it was -0.660, 0.008, -0.055, -0.056, -0.213, 0.344, 0.011, respectively, in elderly group, all P > 0.05). The correlation in middle-aged group was not analyzed because there was only 1 patient.@*Conclusions@#Although the atherosclerotic changes in LEAOD patients can affect SMA and aorto-iliac artery at the same time, there was no correlation between the stenosis degree of SMA and each artery within the scope of aorto-iliac artery which may due to the differences in the histological structure and hemodynamics among different arteries. SMA atherosclerotic stenosis and occlusion is a relatively independent disease process for LEAOD.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To study confirm whether curcumin could inhibit the proliferation of CD44+colon cancer cells. In this study. Methods: MTT method was used to test the proliferation inhibition effects of curcumin against colon cancer cells. And Real-time PCR and Fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) were used to determine CD44 expression level in colon cancer cells after treated with curcumin. Then we used Magnetic-activated cell sorting ( MACS) method to separate CD44 positive and negative cells. And we compared the proliferation inhibition effects of curcumin against these two kinds of cells. Results: Curcumin could inhibit the proliferation of HCT116 and HT-29 colon cancer cell lines. The expression level of CD44 could also be down-regulated after the colon cancer cells were treated with curcumin. Conclusion: Curcumin could inhibit the proliferation of CD44+colon cancer cells. Thus it was suggested that crcumin might have the effect to inhibit the proliferation of colon cancer stem cells and might be used as a promising agents to prevent the relapse and metastasis of colon cancer.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Microwave treatment is a common physical therapy method that can increase the temperature and blood circulation of deep tissues, and is used for improving fracture repair. However, microwave treatment cannot be used if there is surgically implanted metal plate or screw. OBJECTIVE: To observe the dame of microwave treatment to the tissues surrounding the titanium alloy implants. METHODS: Forty-four New Zealand white rabbits were randomized into experimental and control groups. The model of the fracture at the middle of the femur was established in all rabbits, and the rabbits in the experimental group were implanted with titanium alloy internal fixation systems. A 30-day microwave treatment (2 450 MHz, 20 W or 40 W, 20 minutes daily) was applied to the fracture site in all rabbits at 3 days after operation. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: After 20 W of wave microwave treatment, the temperature of tissues around the implants showed no significant increase or severe heat injury. While, 40 W of wave microwave treatment significantly increased the temperature of tissues around the implants and the tissue was damaged severely. Our results indicate that, the low-dosage microwave treatment may be a promising method in the rehabilitation therapy of fractures with titanium alloy internal fixation.

ABSTRACT

Because X-ray digital tomosynthesis (DTS) imaging principle is different from that of CT, DTS has better spatial resolution than that of CT in sagittal and coronal planes, and since DTS is reconstructed to generate"layer" images, its power in the aspect of distinguishing 3D tissue structures is superior to that of general X-ray photography, so DTS can provide 3D information for clinical diagnosis; its radiation dose is markedly lower than that of CT. In recent years, DTS has made progress in the application of skeletal system imaging; the research progress and the possible direction of future application of DTS in bone fracture diagnosis, fracture healing estimation, vertebral bone quality assessment and fracture risk prediction, joint dislocation diagnosis, bone erosion evaluation and postoperative arthroplasty assessment were summarized.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effects of changes in elastic modulus of dental implants on stress distributions in implants and peri-implant bone by 3D finite element analysis, so as to supply experimental evidence for new implant system. Methods The model of the mandible with implant bone was constructed based on CT data. The elastic modulus of implants was set as 110, 90, 70, 55 and 40 GPa, respectively. The model was applied with static load of 300 N in vertical direction, 100 N in horizontal direction and 130 N in oblique direction, respectively, to stimulate occlusal state. The stresses on different parts of implants with different elastic modulus and peri-implant bone under 3 kinds of loads were calculated and analyzed. Results As the elastic modulus of implants declined, stresses in cortical bone around implants under horizontal and oblique loads decreased, and stresses in the implants showed a decreasing tendency as well. Conclusions The decrease in elastic modulus of implants can benefit the transferring of load from the implants to the surrounding bone, and reduce the risk of long-term implant failure.

Objective To explore the therapeutic potential of miR-21 in rat model of chemotherapy-induced premature ovarian failure (POF).Methods Lentivirus-mediated miR-21 (LV-miR-21) was constructed successfully in vitro with molecular biology methods.Rats were divided into 4 groups named control group, model group, blank vector group and miR-21 group.Rat models of chem0therapy-induced POF were established in the latter 3 groups by intraperitoneal injection ofcytoxan (CTX).Bilateral ovaries of rats in miR-21 group were injected with LV-miR-21,of rats in blank vector group were injected with lentivirus vector, and rats in model group received no treatment. At 1,15,30,45 and 60 days after the last injection, blood sample was collected, the rats were then sacrificed and the ovaries were removed. The estrous cycle was observed by vaginal smears. The E2 level was detected by chemiluminescent immunoassay, and the follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) level was detected by homologous double antibody radiation immunoassay.Ovary weights were measured, and the follicle count was conducted through observing paraffin section under microscope. The apoptosis of ovarian granulosa cells was analyzed by TUNEL assay. Results During 15-30 days,30-45 days and 45-60 days after the last injection, regular estrous cycle was recovered respectively in 8,5 and 3 rats in miR-21 group. At the 15th,30th,45th and 60th day after the last injection, the E2 level was higher in miR-21 group than in model group and blank vector group, but the FSH level showed the opposite trend (P=0.000).At the 45th and 60th day after the last injection, the follicle numbers at all stages increased markedly in miR-21 group than in model group and blank vector group (P=0.000).At the 30th,45th and 60th day after the last injection, the ovary weights were higher in miR-21 group than in model group and blank vector group. At the 15th,30th,45th and 60th day after the last injection, the apoptosis rate of ovarian granulosa cell were significantly lower in miR-21 group than in model group and blank vector group (P=0.000).Conclusion Up-regulation of miR-21 expression may partly recover the ovarian structure and function damaged by CTX.

ABSTRACT

Case reports are valuable clinical evidence in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). However, the general reporting quality is suboptimal. A working group comprising 20 members was set up to develop systematic recommendations on case report in Chinese medicine (CARC). The working group (CARC group) developed a primary checklist based on reviewing the general reporting quality of case reports in TCM and thorough internal discussion. Two-round consensus process had been carried out among clinical experts, evidence-based medicine methodologists, medical journal editors and clinical practitioners with designated questionnaire embedded with the primary checklist. In total, 118 participants from 17 provinces of China and Korea completed the questionnaires. Their feedback was analyzed and discussed by the CARC group. The checklist was amended accordingly, and the final version, comprising 16-item, is presented here. Under the framework of CARC recommendations, the reporting quality of case reports in TCM can be improved.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To survey the reporting quality of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) case reports published in recent years and understand the common problems. The assessment results would lay the foundation for the development of recommendations for case report in Chinese medicine.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>This survey determined the reporting quality of cases with Chinese herbal decoction, Chinese proprietary medicine, acupuncture, moxibustion and other traditional therapies published in 20 core medical journals of China by searching the China Academic Journals Full-text Database from 2006 to 2010. Fifty survey items in 16 domains were used to determine the reporting quality. One point was assigned to each item (Yes=1 point; No=0 point), and total score was 50 points. The domain of treatment was assessed independently, ranging from 2 to 9 items for different TCM interventions.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The total of 1,858 case reports, covering 3,417 cases were included to analyze from 13 out of 20 core medical journals of China. There were 74.8% of them did not identify the nature of study in title, while 73.9% did not comprise an abstract. Incomplete reporting was found in discussions/ comment, and only 38.9% had made recommendations or take-away messages. Figures and tables were infrequently used. Three cases cited the full names of patients, but without declaring that any consent was obtained. Over 90% reported the symptoms and signs of TCM, and characteristics on tongue and pulse, but less than 50% did mention other medical history and diagnostic rationale. More than 90% treatments of the included cases were herbal decoction, with clear reporting on the ingredients and dosages. However, the reporting rate of the dosages of each ingredient was just 48.4%. Almost none reported the quality control of crude herbs, manufacturers and lot numbers of herbal proprietary medicine. Besides, advices and precautions on diet, emotions and living were rare to be illustrated.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Systematic reporting recommendations are urged to develop for improving the contents and format of case reports in TCM.</p>

ABSTRACT

Objective To analyze the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of human avian influenza A (H7N9 ) epidemic in Jiaxing City, and to provide scientific basis for the control and prevention of the disease. Methods The epidemiological and clinical information of 15 cases of human infection with avian influenza A (H7N9)reported from April, 2013 to May,2015 were collected.Sample of patients and external environmental samples of suspected exposure were collected and detected by real-time PCR.The epidemic distribution and clinical characteristics were analyzed. Results Fifteen cases of human infection with H7N9 were confirmed from April,2013 to May,2015,including 11 cases of death (77.33%).The confirmed cases mostly reported in winter and spring, and 9 confirmed cases were over 60 years, and male case proportion was higher than women (1.5∶1 ).Most of cases (66.67%)were sporadic and occurred in rural areas, but no epidemiological association was observed among the cases.Fever (100%),cough (66.67%),and wheezing and tightness in chest (33.33%)were common initial symptoms. The chest imaging examination of patients showed ground glass opacity and patchy consolidation, and 7 cases had simple pleural effusion.Twelve of confirmed cases had other chronic diseases.Eleven cases of death had appeared multiple medical comorbidities, such as respiratory failure (6/1 1 ),pulmonary embolism (4/1 1 ),multiple systemic organ failure (3/1 1 ),and heart cerebrovascular embolization (2/11).Twelve cases had been exposed to the live poultry markets where the positive rate of novel influenza A (H7N9) virus in environmental specimens was 7.69%(25/325).One of the 252 close contacts to confirmed cases appeared mild flu-like symptoms. No positive result related to novel influenza A (H7N9)virus nucleic acid was detected from each close contact's throat swabs. Conclusion Human infections with avian influenza A (H7N9)virus showed obvious seasonal distribution in Jiaxing.Elderly men, especially those with chronic diseases were the high risk people of human infection with H7N9 avian influenza. The infection might be associated with the exposure to live birds.Standard management of live poultry markets is the key measure in preventing and controlling H7N9 virus infection among population.
