ABSTRACT

Hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) has been widespread in the world, and caused fever, rashes and other clinical symptoms of children, and sometimes inducing respiratory failure, brainstem encephalitis, and other complications, even death. The disease is mainly caused by enterovirus 71 (EV-A71) and coxsackievirus 16 (CV-A16). Since 2013, the proportion of HFMD cases caused by other enteroriruses has gradually increased, causing severe and even fatal cases. This paper summarizes the research progress in the epidemiological and etiological characteristics of HFMD in China since 2008.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To assess the association between blood pressure and the risks of diabetes mellitus. Methods:Screening and intervention were conducted from 2015 to 2019 for high-risk subjects of cardiovascular diseases in eight counties of Henan. Information on demographic characteristics, lifestyle behaviors, and anthropometric measurements were obtained via a questionnaire. Fasting blood samples were collected for blood glucose and serum lipids. The R 3.6.3 software was used to analyze the relationship between blood pressure and diabetes mellitus. Results:The detection rate of diabetes mellitus was 23.5% among 120 040 participants aged 35-75 years. The mean fasting blood glucose level was significantly different among normotensive, prehypertensive, and hypertensive patients. Compared to normotensive patients, prehypertension and hypertension had adjusted ORs of 34%( OR=1.34, 95 CI%: 1.30-1.37) and 85%( OR=1.85, 95 CI%: 1.81-1.89). The corresponding ORs were 1.81(1.77-1.85) in controlled and 2.17(2.06-2.28) in uncontrolled patients. A subgroup analysis showed the same trend, where the risk of diabetes increased with blood pressure ( P<0.05). Conclusions:People with elevated BP may increase their risk of diabetes, while the risk declines when BP is under control. Therefore, targeted measures should be taken to reduce the risk.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the feasibility and clinical value of MRI quantitative evaluation technique in detecting sternocleidomastoid muscle fibrosis in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) after radiotherapy. Methods:From August 2019 to March 2021, 45 patients with clinically confirmed NPC after radiotherapy and 30 healthy controls who underwent physical examination in Lishui Hospital of Zhejiang University were enrolled in our study. According to the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group/European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (RTOG/EORTC) classification criteria of late radiation reactions respectively, the sternocleidomastoid muscle injury in the NPC group was divided into grade Ⅰ, Ⅱ and Ⅲ, which included 8, 32 and 5 patients respectively. All patients underwent T 1 mapping and T 2 mapping imaging of the neck. Firstly, the mapping images of sternocleidomastoid muscle between the two groups were analyzed and compared. Using NUMARIS/4 software of Siemens image post-processing workstation, the region of interest was manually drawn along the edge of sternocleidomastoid muscle at the level of laryngeal chamber in axial mapping diagram. Then, T 1 and T 2 values and the long and short diameters of sternocleidomastoid muscle were measured respectively. Finally, the differences of the parameters between the two groups were compared by independent sample t-test, Spearman rank correlation was used to analyze the relationship between the average T 1 and T 2 values of bilateral sternocleidomastoid muscles and the grade of late radiation injury. Results:Compared with the control group, the shape of sternocleidomastoid muscle in the NPC group was smaller in shape, with irregular edge and uneven increase of T 1 mapping color scale. There was no significant difference in muscle signal in T 2 mapping. The T 1 values of left and right sternocleidomastoid muscles in the NPC group were (1 524.7±97.6) and (1 496.5±93.2) ms respectively, which were significantly higher than those in the normal control group [(1 231.5±85.3) and (1 275.9±90.9) ms] ( P<0.05), and the T 2 values of left and right sternocleidomastoid muscles in the NPC group were (28.4±4.8) and (28.4±3.6) ms respectively, which were lower than those in the normal control group [(30.4±3.5) and (30.4±3.5) ms] ( P<0.05). The long and short diameters of bilateral sternocleidomastoid muscles in the NPC group were shorter than those in the control group ( P<0.05). The average T 1 and T 2 values of bilateral sternocleidomastoid muscles in NPC patients after radiotherapy were (1 510.6±95.4) and (28.4±4.2) ms respectively, The T 1 value was positively correlated with the classification of advanced radiation injury ( r=0.78, P<0.001), and T 2 value was negatively correlated with the level of advanced radiation injury ( r=-0.87, P<0.001). Conclusion:Mapping quantitative evaluation technique can noninvasively and objectively detect and evaluate sternocleidomastoid muscle fibrosis after NPC radiotherapy, which has potential clinical application value.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the effects of high fat dietinduced elevation of blood glucose on the microvascular function of testis and male reproduction in C57BL/6 mice. Methods A total of 40 male C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into control group and high fat diet (HFD) group (n =20). The mice in HFD group were fed with high fat diet for 20 weeks. Blood glucose and body weight were measured weekly. The permeability of bloodtestis barrier was evaluated by intraperitoneal injection of Evans blue. The blood flow of testicular microcircu-lation and the frequency and amplitude of microvascular vasomotion were detected by laser Doppler blood flow ima-ging system. The morphology of testicular tissue was observed by HE staining. The expressions of platelet- endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1 (PECAM-1/CD31) in testicular microvascular endothelial cells and prolifera-ting cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) in spermatogenic cells were detected by immunohistochemistry. The apoptosis of spermatogenic cells was observed by TUNEL staining. Results The body weight and blood glucose of HFD group were significantly higher than those in control group (P<0.01). Evans blue staining showed that the integrity of blood-testis barrier of HFD group was damaged, and increased permeability was observed in seminiferous tubules. In HFD group, the mean blood flow of testis and the frequency and amplitude of microvascular vasomotion were sig-nificantly lower than those in control group (P<0.01). The number of spermatogenic epithelial cells and the thickness of seminiferous epithelium decreased. The expressions of CD31 in microvascular endothelial cells and PCNA in spermatogenic cells were significantly lower in HFD group than those in control group (P<0.01). The apoptosis level of spermatogenic cells was higher than that in the control group (P <0.01). Conclusions Increased blood glucose level induced by high fat diet in mice can impair the testicular microvasculature and damage the integrity of blood-testis barrier and injure the structure of seminiferous epithelium in mice.

ABSTRACT

The aim of the present study was to investigate the involvements of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) and estrogen receptor α (ERα) in the inhibitory effect of wogonin on the breast adenocarcinoma growth. Moreover, the effect of wogonin on the angiogenesis of chick chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) was also investigated. MCF-7 cells (human breast adenocarcinoma cell line) were subjected to several drugs, including IGF-1, wogonin and ER inhibitor ICI182780, alone or in combination. MTT assay was used to detect breast cancer proliferation. Western blot was used to analyze ERα and p-Akt expression levels. CAM models prepared from 6-day chicken eggs were employed to evaluate angiogenesis inhibition. The results showed wogonin and ICI182780 both exhibited a potent ability to blunt IGF-1-stimulated MCF-7 cell growth. Either of wogonin and ICI182780 significantly inhibited ERα and p-Akt expressions in IGF-1-treated cells. The inhibitory effect of wogonin showed no difference from that of ICI182780 on IGF-1-stimulated expressions of ERα and p-Akt. Meanwhile, wogonin at different concentrations showed significant inhibitory effect on CAM angiogenesis. These results suggest the inhibitory effect of wogonin on breast adenocarcinoma growth via inhibiting IGF-1-mediated PI3K-Akt pathway and regulating ERα expression. Furthermore, wogonin has a strong anti-angiogenic effect on CAM model.
