ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the short-term therapeutic effect and long-term survival of multiple myeloma patients with extramedullary disease (EMD) in the new drug era. Methods:The data of 74 patients with multiple myeloma diagnosed and treated in Anhui Wanbei Coal and Electricity Group General Hospital from January 2015 to January 2020 were retrospectively analyzed, including 17 patients with soft tissue infiltration (EM-S), 9 patients with bone infiltration (EM-B), and 48 patients without EMD (No-EMD). The short-term efficacy, the 4-year progression-free survival (PFS) rate and overall survival (OS) rate, and their influencing factors in three groups of patients after receiving bortezomib regimen were analyzed. Results:After 3-4 courses of early induction therapy of bortezomib regimen, the overall response rate of patients in the EM-S group was lower than that in the No-EMD group and the EM-B group [58.8% (10/17) vs. 85.4% (41/48), 100.0% (9/9)], and the differences were statistically significant ( χ2 = 13.7, P = 0.036; χ2 = 26.5, P = 0.003), while the difference between No-EMD group and EM-B group was not statistically significant ( χ2 = 12.7, P = 0.211). Survival analysis showed that the 4-year PFS rate of No-EMD group was higher than that of the EM-S group and EM-B group (41.0% vs. 7.6%, 0), and the differences were statistically significant ( χ2 = 10.835, P < 0.01; χ2 = 8.276, P = 0.004). Meanwhile, the 4-year OS rate of EM-S group was lower than that of the No-EMD group and EM-B group (16.5% vs. 54.3%, 59.3%), and the differences were statistically significant ( χ2 = 9.146, P = 0.002; χ2 = 4.066, P = 0.044). Conclusion:The early treatment effect of bortezomib regimen, PFS and OS in multiple myeloma patients with EM-S are poor, while the EM-B has no effect on OS.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the Du moxibustion therapy in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,COPD)at stable phase. Methods 60 cases of lung COPD patients in stable stage who received treatment from January to December 2010 in Taihe Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine outpatient were randomly divided into two groups in,according to the case of tail number, with 30 patients in each. The control group was taken oral doxofylline tablets,0.2 g/time,2 time/d and ambroxol hydrochloride,30 mg/time,3 time/d.The treatment group was treated with Du moxibustion two times on the basis of the control group. One year follow-up and pulmonary function and BODE index assessment were performed in each group. Results ① the pulmonary function of the treatment group after the treatment (65.58±7.90) % was significantly improved than the same group before the treatment (53.20± 7.37) % (P<0.05),and had significant difference compared with the control group after the treatment (57.53 ± 7.22)% (P<0.05).The recurrence rate was significantly different in the treatment group (1.79±0.32) and the control group (2.09±0.38) (P<0.05).② BMI,MMRC,6MWD,BODE index, shortness of breath, wheezing, anorexia was significantly improved after the treatment in the treatment group [after treatment were (21.98 ± 1.32)kg/m2,(2.09±0.37)%,(350.68±88.70),(3.82±2.18) meters,(0.38±0.27),(0.32±0.25)%,(0.35±0.27) respectively; before treatment were (18.21±2.49)kg/m2,(2.50±0.43)%,(324.88±70.92),(4.66±1.40) meters,(1.49±0.62) %,(1.42±0.56)%,(1.77±0.35),P<0.01 respecitively].Compared with the control treatment after the treatment [(18.20 ± 1.79) kg/m2,(2.36 ± 0.64) %,(320.03 ± 68.53),(4.43 ±1.62) meters,(1.22± 0.71),(1.28±0.67)%,(1.73±0.24) respectively] (P>0.01),the difference was statistically significant(P<0.01).Conclusion Du moxibustion therapy was effective in treating chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases in stable phase.

ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo investigate the effects of heme oxygenase- 1 ( HO- 1 ) on pancreas and liver in severe acute pancreatitis(SAP) rats, and explore its probable mechanism. MethodsA total of 40 male SD rats were randomLy divided into 4 groups: control group(n = 10) ; SAP group(n = 10) ; HO-1 stimulation group (75 μg/kg hemin was injected intraperitoneally at 30 minutes after model establishment, n = 10 ) ; HO-1 inhibition group(20 μg/kg ZnPP was injected intraperitoneally at 30 minutes after model establishment, n = 10). Sodium Cholate (3%) was retrogradedly injected into the pancreatic duct to produce the SAP model. To observe the histopathological changes of pancreas, liver tissues were observed and serum, pancrease and liver tissues concentration of HO-1, IL-10 and TNF-α in different groups were observed 24 h after the SAP model establishment. ResultsCompared with those in SAP model group, the pathological scores were lower in HO-1 stimuLation group[ (7.50 ±0.58) vs (10.50 ±0. 71) ; ( 1.20 ±0.42) vs (1.70 ±0.48) ]( P < 0.05 ), and the serum, pancreas and liver tissues HO- 1 [ (0.97 ± 0.02) ng/mL, (0.78 ± 0.09) ng/mL,(0.73 ±0.05) ng/mL]and IL-10[(101.72 ±2.63) ng/mL, (63.58 +1.02) pg/mL, (169.40 ±3.06) pg/mL ]concentrations were significantly elevated in HO- 1 stimuLation group ( P < 0.05 ), while the serum, pancreas and liver tissues TNF-α [ (22.85 ± 1.74) pg/mL, (26.50 ± 1.3) pg/mL, (35.88 ±0.98 ) pg/mL]concentrations were significantly decreased in HO-1 stimuLation group (P < 0.05 ). Compared with those in SAP model group, the pathological scores were higher in HO-1 inhibition group (P <0.05 ), and the serum, pancreas and liver tissues HO-1 and IL-10 concentrations were significantly decreased( P <0.05 ), while the serum, pancreas and liver tissues TNF-α concentrations were significantly elevated (P < 0.05 ). CondusionThe results of the study demonstrated that HO- 1 over- expression has protective effects on the pancreas and liver in SAP. UP-regulated IL-10 expression and down-reguLated TNF-α expression might be served as a potential mechanism.

ABSTRACT

Heme oxygenase- 1 ( HO- 1 ) can catalyze the decomposition of heme and the products of its enzymatic activity, including carbon monoxide, biliverdin, bilintbin and ferritin, can play a significant cytoprotective role in antagonizing inflammation, protecting cells from oxidative injury and cellular stresses. The method of gene transfer can maintain target gene expression for a long time, can regulate the inflammatory immune response. HO- 1 gene transfer has made marked results in research of numerous diseases. In this article,we give a review of feasibility of HO-1 gene transfer therapy in acute pancreatitis.

ABSTRACT

The atomic force microscope (AFM) with an atomic resolution is a powerful tool for biological structure. The probe is an important part that determines the resolution of AFM. Carbon nanotube is becoming an ideal AFM probe due to its unique structure physical and chemical properties. Carbon nanotube AFM probes can be made by manual assembly or chemical vapor deposition. Several proteins, nucleic acids and cells have been investigated with carbon nanotube probes. Not only the high-resolution images but also the determination of specific DNA sequence and haplotype were acquired. Carbon nanotube AFM probe will increasingly play an important role in biological studies.
