ABSTRACT
Paediatric nuclear medicine studies have -compared to studies in adults special requirements in preparation, acquisition and quality. Children have special needs; realizing them can help to make the little patients more cooperative which leads to a much better quality. High quality studies are essential to get all possible, clinically relevant information out of the study and to justify the radiation exposure from the nuclear medicine study. It is an ideal situation if there is a nuclear medicine department located in the children's hospital, but also in an "adult's department" a few rules can help to make the child's visit in nuclear medicine a positive experience and to reach the required high quality standard

Nuclear medicine studies play a big role in paediatric oncology. Even if other imaging modalities such as MRI or CT have replaced some nuclear medicine examinations, radioisotope studies still are done for setting up a primary diagnosis and staging of the disease as well as for follow up during and after therapy
