ABSTRACT
To determine the characteristics of patients, indications, and the types of dental treatment, that was carried out for children under general anesthesia at Queen Rania AL Abdullah hospital for children in Amman-Jordan. A retrospective, descriptive and comparative study was designed. Data were collected from records of patients who required full mouth rehabilitation under general anesthesia over a one year period [13 February 2010 to l3 February 2011], at Queen Rania Al Abdullah children hospital in Jordan. Information collected from the records included date of birth, gender, medical condition, indications for general anesthesia, type of procedure, treatment provided including the number of primary and permanent teeth extracted and restored, and the type of restoration was also recorded. A total of 163 patients, 80[49.1%] males and 83 [50.9%] females received full mouth rehabilitation under general anesthesia at Queen Rania Al Abdullah children hospital in Jordan. The age of the patients ranged from 1 to 16 years old with mean age of 6.17 +/- 1.49 years. The mean age of females was 6.55 +/- 3.19 and of males was 5.76 +/- 3.02. The main indications for general anesthesia were young children with extensive caries [45.4%] special health care needs patients [33.1%], and behavior management problem [13.5%]. Complete oral rehabilitation including restorations [fissure sealants, composite filling, amalgam restorations and stainless steel crowns], dental extraction of deciduous and permanent teeth and surgical procedures were performed under general anesthesia in a single visit. Dental management for pediatric patients who are very young and those with special health care needs can effectively be carried out under general anesthesia in a single visit

The purpose of this retrospective study was to investigate traumatic dental injuries to permanent incisors and the treatment provided to a group of children attending Prince Ali hospital. Sixty-one pediatric patients [48 males and 13 females, age range 7-14 years] were seen in the pediatric dental clinic at Prince Ali Hospital during a period of one year [2003-2004]. Data regarding dental trauma was collected from their records and analyzed. Causes of dental injuries were numerous. Falls were the most common cause of injury [77%], collision accounted for 11% of the injuries, sports for 8%, road traffic accidents for 2% and other causes in 2%. Most of traumas occurred at home [66%] followed by school [15%]. The most commonly involved teeth were maxillary permanent incisors which accounted for 89% of the injuries. The most common type of injury was uncomplicated crown fracture [70%]. The main reason for delayed presentation was unawareness of parents [50%]. Pain was the main cause of attendance to dental clinic and the main modality of treatment for delayed cases was pulp therapy. Most of the injuries were in males; in the age group 9-10 years with uncomplicated crown fracture as the main type of injury. Most cases were seen late, after three days of trauma, with pulp therapy as the main type of treatment. This finding raises the importance of awareness of the public, including school teachers, of the crucial of immediate treatment for traumatized teeth, which can help in the prognosis of treatment provided
ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of awareness of orthodontic Jordanian patients to the importance of the wearing of gloves by orthodontists. Questionnaire was distributed to a random sample of a total 274 orthodontic patients, aged 15-25 years attending orthodontic clinic for the first time. Most of orthodontic patients [94.9%] considered orthodontists should wear gloves routinely. 89.4% of respondents stated that glove wearing will protect both orthodontists and the patients. 11.3% would not mind visiting an orthodontists who did not wear gloves. The majority of patients [88%] mentioned that gloves should be changes after each orthodontic patient. The result of this study showed a high level of awareness among orthodontic patients on the importance of wearing gloves during treatment and they would prefer to visit those orthodontists who wear gloves while treating them

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the attitude of parents and their children to the use of gloves by dentists in the dental clinic. 314 parents and their children attending pediatric dental clinic at King Hussein Medical Center and Prince Ali Hospital were asked to participate in the study. Children aged between 11-15 years old participated. A questionnaire was used in the research. The majority of the children and their patients [94.9% and 96.2% respectively] stated that the wearing of gloves was important during dental treatment. Most of the participants stated the gloves are worn for the protection of dentist and the patient [94.9% and 90.8% respectively]. 94.4% of children and patients did not like to attend a dentist who did not wear gloves. Most of children 92.3% and parents 94.9% thought that gloves should be changed after dental treatment of each patient. The majority of participants in the present study indicated that gloves should be worn by dental practitioners while treating their patients and they will not bring their children to a dentist who does not show adequate infection control procedures. The study showed no significant difference in response between children and their parents
