This study was carried on 10 patients with pure schistosomal hepatic fibrosis [SHF] showing feminization in the form of gynecomastia and feminine hair distribution, and 10 healthy non schistosomal subjects. Full history, detailed examination, urine and stool analysis, rectal snip biopsy, liver biopsy proved the absence of cirrhosis and the schistosomal nature of the illness. Serum estradiol level was found to be significantly higher in the SHF subjects and accounted for their feminization. The liver biopsy changes correlated positively with the level of serum estradiol and the degree of feminization

Giardia lamblia is a common and cosmopolitan parasite that preferentially colonizes the duodenum and jejunum and has been found in the gall bladder. This work was performed on 20 adult male Egyptian patients passing Giardia trophozoites and /or cysts in their stools. Cholecystography was done to all patients before and after treatment. Twelve patients showed radiological evidence of diseased gall bladder which improved markedly after treatment. This points to the possibility that Giardia infection can lead to gall bladder disorders

C1q levels were estimated by radial immunodiffusion in sera and ascitic fluids of 15 patients suffering from advanced schistosomal hepatic fibrosis. Ten healthy individuals were also included as controls. Lower C1q values were observed in patients compared with the controls. However, the difference was statistically nonsignificant. This denotes that the classic complement pathway may not be involved in cases with advanced schistosomiasis
