ABSTRACT

Abstract@#Victims of cyberbullying are the most affected role group in cyberbullying. Cyberbullying not only brings emotional and psychological distress to the victims, but also results in irrational externalizing behaviors among those victims. Victims of cyberbullying need profound psychological counseling and behavior intervention to resolve the long standing dilemma. How to deal with cyberbullying and how to avoid being victims of cyberbullying are of great importance. From the perspective of psychology, this paper analyzes and expounds the role formation of victims of cyberbullying and the effectiveness of coping strategies, so as to provide a theoretical basis for cyberbullying intervention.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To evaluate the safety, feasibility and operational performance of self-developed medical disposable portable endoscopy (YunSendo) for upper gastrointestinal endoscopy examination in Ba-Ma mini-pigs.Methods:A total of 10 Guangxi Ba-Ma mini-pigs were used in the experiment, and mucosal injury models were established in advance by biopsy forceps in esophagus, stomach, and duodenum. Each experimental animal underwent medical disposable portable endoscopy and Olympus endoscopy (GIF-Q260J) performed by two endoscopists separately. The time when the endoscope reached the duodenum, the number of detected mucosal injuries and endoscopic pictures of different parts with standard image acquisition were recorded. Endoscopic operational performance and endoscopic image quality were evaluated. Different endoscopists recorded experimental results with blind method. The procedures of the two endoscopic examinations were performed by coin-tossing method. The paired t test was used for statistical analysis. Results:There were no statistically significant differences in the insertion time and total operation time between medical disposable portable endoscopy and Olympus endoscopy ( (171.00±9.96) s vs. (164.00±17.84) s, (285.00±33.94) s vs. (273.40±23.46) s; t=1.289 and 1.281, P=0.230 and 0.232). There were no statistically significant differences in the percentage of time of clear visual field during endoscopy insertion and total operation between medical disposable portable endoscopy and Olympus endoscopy ((91.83±1.85)% vs. (91.52±1.51)%, (93.07±3.10)% vs. (92.06±2.57)%; t=0.401 and 0.689, P=0.698 and 0.508). Moreover, there were no statistically significant differences in the score of comprehensive operation performance, score of clear image number, score of image color recognition, score of image illumination, comprehensive score of image quality and number of detected mucosal injuries ((9.66±0.30) points vs. (9.86±0.15) points, (39.50±0.71) points vs. (39.30±1.06) points, (39.70±0.48) points vs. (39.40±0.70) points, (39.40±0.70) points vs. (39.50±0.71) points, (9.88±0.09) points vs. (9.85±0.20) points, 9.80±0.42 vs. 9.90±0.32; t=2.176, 1.000, 1.152, 0.317, 0.629 and 0.557, all P>0.05). There were no adverse events after operation in medical disposable portable endoscopy group and Olympus endoscopy group. Conclusions:The medical disposable portable endoscopy is safe and feasible for endoscopy examination in live animal models. Different parts of upper gastrointestinal tract and mucosal lesions can be clearly detected. The operational performance and the image quality are excellent, which is similar to Olympus endoscopy (GIF-Q260J).

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate the signaling pathways that mediate the protective effects of dexmedetomidine on lung tissue against ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB).@*METHODS@#Forty adult SD rats were randomized into 5 groups, namely I/R group (group A), dexmedetomidine group (group B), sham-operated group (group C), oxypenicillin group (group D), and oxypenicillin + dexmedetomidine group (group E). The arterial blood gas, lung tissue apoptosis rate, protein kinase (Akt), phosphorylated Akt (p-AKT), caspase-3 and caspase-9 were compared among the 5 groups.@*RESULTS@#In groups A, B, D and E, the heart rate (HR), mean arterial pressure (MAP), and oxygenation index (OI) measured before CPB, at opening of the left hilar and at the end of experiment decreased gradually while the respiratory index (RI) increased at the 3 time points. At the end of experiment, HR, MAP, and OI in group B were significantly higher and RI was significantly lower than those in groups A, D and E ( < 0.05). In groups A-E, the pathological scores of the lung tissue at the end of the experiment were 4.89, 1.89, 0, 6.01 and 5.76, respectively, and the cell apoptosis rates in the lung tissue were 6.25%, 3.69%, 1.06%, 8.06% and 7.79%, respectively ( < 0.001). Western blotting showed that the expressions of Akt and p-AKT were the highest and those of caspase-3 and caspase-9 were the lowest in group B among the 5 groups ( < 0.05).@*CONCLUSIONS@#Dexmedetomidine can effectively alleviate lung injury in rats during CPB possibly by targeting caspase-3 and caspase-9 proteins that are related to PI3K/Akt signaling pathway.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the clinical features of thyroid disease occurring in response to antiviral therapy in patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Eighty-two patients diagnosed with CHC were recruited for study from our hospital between 2009 and 2010. All patients were given a 48-week course of antiviral combination therapy with pegylated-interferon (Peg-IFN; 180 mug qw ih) and ribavirin (RBV; 15 mg/kg bw). Patient sera was collected prior to treatment (baseline), at treatment weeks 24 and 48, and post-treatment week 24, and used to detect changes in levels of thyroid function markers, thyroid-specific and other autoantibodies, complement factors, and immunoglobulins (Igs). Differential expression of biomarkers was assessed between patients who developed thyroid disorder and those who did not.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>At treatment week 48, 13.4% (11/82) of cases developed hypothyroidism, 3.7% (3/82) developed hyperthyroidism, 20.7% (17/82) tested positive for thyroglobulin antibody, and 22.0% (18/82) tested positive for thyroid peroxidase antibody. The patients who did not develop thyroid disease had significantly higher post-treatment levels (vs. baseline) of IgG (14.84 +/- 2.61 vs. 12.95 +/- 3.32 g/L, F = 10.458, P = 0.002) and C4 (0.26 +/- 0.09 vs. 0.22 +/- 0.08 g/L, F = 6.835, P = 0.011) and significantly lower IgM (0.86 +/- 0.48 vs. 1.00 +/- 0.42 g/L, F = 9.106, P = 0.003). The patients who developed thyroid disease showed no significant differences in the baseline and post-treatment levels of IgG, C4, or IgM. When the two groups of patients who did or did not develop thyroid disease were compared, there was no difference in the amount of patients who achieved sustained virological response.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Antiviral-induced thyroid disease in patients with refractory hepatitis C manifests as clinically-detectable abnormalities in serum levels of thyroid autoantibody and markers of hypothyroidism. Levels of other autoantibodies and Igs do not correlate with the development of thyroid disease in these patients, and thyroid disease does not appear to affect the efficacy of Peg-IFN + RBV antiviral therapy.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>Ambulatory arterial stiffness index (AASI) has been recently proposed to reflect the dynamic relation between diastolic and systolic blood pressure throughout the whole day. The aim of our study was to investigate the change in AASI with advancing age and the correlation with 24 hours pulse pressure (24 h PP) in healthy individuals.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>246 healthy subjects [mean age (59.7 +/- 14.6) years, women 38.6%] underwent 24 hours ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) in normal life style. The blood pressure recordings, heart rate (HR), mean arterial pressure (MAP) and pulse pressure (PP) were analyzed simultaneously by computer for every 30 minutes during 6:00 am-22:00 pm and every 60 minutes during 22:00 pm-6:00 am. Using all the blood pressure recordings, we plotted diastolic against systolic blood pressure from each individuals and calculated the regression slope. AASI was derived from 1 minus this regression slope.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>In 246 healthy individuals, AASI increased with age. Among the healthy individuals, the 95th percentile of AASI was 0.56, the upper boundary of the 95% prediction interval of AASI in relation to age were 0.49 at 20 - 39 years, 0.59 at 40 - 59 years, 0.69 at 60 - 79 years, 0.79 at > or = 80 years. The correlation coefficient between AASI and 24 h PP was 0.497 (P < 0.01). AASI linearly increased with age in healthy individuals, whereas the relation between pulse pressure and age was curvilinear.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>AASI as a index reflecting blood pressure relationship, manifested the corresponding change with advancing age. The correlation between AASI and traditional index 24 h PP indicated AASI as a new measure of arterial stiffness.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the monitoring and therapeutic methods of nonoperative management of blunt splenic injury.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Eighty-two cases with nonoperative management of 95 patients of blunt splenic injury from September 2005 to April 2008 were analyzed retrospectively. Percutaneous peritoneal drainage was applied to 75 cases, and auto-blood transfusion was applied to 38 cases. Eighty-two cases were followed up from 3 weeks to 8 months.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Eighty-two patients with nonoperative management were treated successfully, including 34 cases classified as grade III to IV, 6 cases over 55-years-old, 14 cases with severe multiple injury (ISS > or = 16) and 37 cases whose drained peritoneal blood volume were over 500 ml. The drained peritoneal blood volume was 30 to 2400 ml. The total volume of auto-blood transfusion was 22 300 ml and the average volume was 613 ml. All cases were followed up without delayed hematocele or peritoneal infection.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>Most hemodynamically stable patients with blunt splenic injury can be healed with nonoperative management. The treatments including percutaneous peritoneal drainage and transfusion of auto-blood can significantly increase the performance rate and the achievement ratio of nonoperative management of blunt splenic injury.</p>

BACKGROUND: Some studies have presented that vascular endothelial growth factor and its receptor system may take part in onset and development of diabetic nephropathy (DN).OBJECTIVE: To further verify the interventional effects of irbesartan on vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its Flk-1 receptor expressions in kidney of diabetes mellitus (DM) rat, and the possible mechanism of irbesartan.DESIGN: Randomized control animal study.SETTING: West China Hospital of Sichuan University.MATERIALS: Eighteen male closed colony SD rats weighing 150-200 g were cared in standardization.METHODS: This study was performed at Laboratory of West China Hospital of Sichuan University from August 2006 to April 2007. All rats were randomly divided into a DN group, an irbesartan group and a normal control group, with 6 rats in each group. 10 g/L streptozotocin (55 mg/kg) was intraperitoneally injected to establish models; rats in the control group were administrated with the same dosage of citric acid buffer solution; rats in the irbesartan group were administrated with 3 mg/(kg·d) irbesartan after model establishment. VEGF and FIk-1 expressions were detected using reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and immunohistochemistry technique; while, urine protein level, area and volume of renal glomerulus were detected, and correlations of data were analyzed.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: ①Renal pathological indicators, urine protein level, area and volume of renal glomerulus; ②VEGF and Flk-1 expressions;③renal immunohistochemical examination;④ correlation analysis.RESULTS:① Renal pathological examination by HE staining indicated that renal glomerulus was remarkably enlarged in the DN group; mesangial matrix was increased; mesangial cells were also increased; renal tubule was expanded. The lesions in the irbesartan group were milder compared to the DN group. Urine protein level in the DN group was significantly higher compared to the control group (P < 0.01); renal weight/body mass, area and volume of renal glomerulus were significantly higher compared to the control group (P < 0.01); urine protein level, renal weight/body mass, area and volume of renal glomerulus in the irbesartan group were significantly lower compared to the DN group (P < 0.01). ② By the 16th week,VEGF and Flk-1 expressions in the DN group were significantly up-regulated compared to control group (P < 0.05); while,VEGF and Flk-1 expressions in the irbesartan group were also up-regulated compared to the control group by the 16th week (P < 0.05) but down-regulated compared to the DN group (P < 0.05). ③ VEGF staining in the DN group was darker compared to control group (P < 0.01), while the staining in the irbesartan group was also darker compared to the control group (P <0.01), but the staining in the irbesartan group was lighter compared to the DN group (P < 0.01). Flk-1 staining was similar to the VEGF. ④ VEGF and Flk-1 were positively correlated, with urine protein level, area and volume of renal glomerulus (P <0.05).CONCLUSION: VEGF and its Flk-1 receptor play important roles in DN pathogenesis. Over expressions may cause renal injury, but irbesartan (angiotensin Ⅱ receptor antagonist) has the protective effects on kidney through inhibiting abnormal expression of VEGF and Flk-1.

ABSTRACT

AIM To investigate the effect of aspirin on the proliferation and NOS expression in astrocytoma cell line, and probe into its mechanism. METHOD The effect of aspirin on the growth of astrocytoma cells was evaluated by MTT assay; NOS protein levels were determined by immunocytochemistry, NO and CEA concentration in the medium were determined by Griess assay and lepton catch immunising method respectively. RESULTS Aspirin inhibited the growth of astrocytoma cells, induced the expression of iNOS, increased the concentration of NO in the medium. The effects of these were centratoin dependent. Moreover, aspirin reduced the concentration of CEA in the medium. CONCLUSION Aspirin inhibits the growth of astrocytoma cell line. Up regulated iNOS expression resulting a increase of NO concentration are ascribed to mechanism of antiproliferation activity of aspirin. CEA is a good indicator in monitoring curative effect of astrocytoma.
