ABSTRACT
Professores mantêm contato direto com o público e muitas vezes trabalham em condições inadequadas, constituindo um grupo de risco sujeito a apresentar alto nível de estresse e burnout. O principal objetivo do estudo foi verificar estresse, burnout e suas causas em um grupode professores. Os instrumentos utilizados foram o Inventário de Sintomas de Stress Adulto de Lipp (ISSL) e o Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), além de uma folha de registro de fatores causadores de estresse. Participaram do estudo 357 professores de Ensino Médio e Fundamental de escolas públicas. Os resultados mostraram que a maior parte dos professores apresenta estresse, porém, em fase de resistência. Os professores, em sua maioria, se consideram altamente realizados com seu trabalho, apesar de apresentarem níveis medianos de exaustão emocional e despersonalização. A causa mais comum de estresse relatado foi indisciplina/violência dos alunos. Os escores obtidos foram inferiores comparados a estudos anteriores.
Teachers keep direct contact with public and often work under inadequate conditions. As a result, they represent a group at risk of developing stress and burnout. The main objective of thisstudy was to investigate the levels and causes of stress and burnout among teachers. A sample of 357 high and elementary public school teachers was evaluated using the Lipp Adult StressSymptoms Inventory (ISSL) and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI). The identified causes of stress and burnout were annotated on an additional sheet. The results showed that most of teachers had stress, however in resistance phase. The majority of teachers showed high professional accomplishment and intermediary levels of emotional exhaustion and depersonalization. The main cause of reported stress was students indiscipline/violence. The found scores of stress and burnout were lower than the reported by other studies.
