ABSTRACT

Analisou-se o atendimento de 1.000 crianças da Unidade de Pronto Atendimento UAI - Sete de Setembro da cidade de Betim, Minas Gerais. A maioria dos pacientes era do sexo masculino (56,7%); 44,2% menores de dois anos. As afecções respiratórias corresponderam a metade das necessidades dos atendimentos; 81,7% dos diagnósticos foram clínicos, sendo que 8,3% dos pacientes necessitaram exames complementares. Um total de 52 medicamentos diferentes foram utilizados, três deles corresponderam a 80% das prescrições (antitérmicos, broncodilatadores e/ou sais de hidratação). A utilização de leitos para observação e o tratamento inicial contribuiu para a redução da necessidade de internações. Cinquenta e nove crianças permaneceram de quatro a 12 horas em tratamento e observação e 15 (1,5%) delas necessitaram internação.


This article analyses the data from 1,000 pediatric patients evaluated ar an emergency service in Betim, state of Minas Gerais (Unidade de Atendimento Imediato Sete de Setembro). It showed that 56.7% of the patients were males, 44.2% had less than two years of age; one half of the complaints was respiratory related; 81.7% of the diagnosis were based upon clinical signs; and only 8.3% of them needed complementary exams. A total of 52 different drugs were prescribed, and three of them were seen in 80% of the prescription (antipyretic, bronchodilators and/or oral fluid and electrolyte therapy). Glose observation and initial treatment were of great importance, because the majority of the patients did not need long term hospitalization treatments. Fifty nine (5.9%) children stayed under observation and/or treatment for a period ran ging from four to 12 hours and only 15(1.5%) of the total needed in-hospital treatment.
