ABSTRACT

The precise surgical treatment for hepatobiliary diseases has been a challenging topic in hepatobiliary surgery for a long time.A perfect preoperative plan can help the surgeon make R0 resection of the lesion and preserve the healthy tissue as much as possible. In addition, all of these depend on the application of different imaging modalities, especially three-dimensional reconstruction technique. But some limitations of 3D reconstruction should be noted:different surgeons may have different views for one object because of different observation points;or it cannot be used for intraoperative re-orientation and so on.3D printed model can overcome some disadvantages of 3D reconstruction. This paper reviewed related literature that reported the usage of 3D printed model in hepatobiliary surgery.

ABSTRACT

Total aralosides of Aralia elata (Miq) Seem (TASAES) from Chinese traditional herb Longya Aralia chinensis L was found to improve cardiac function. The present study was to determine the protective effects of TASAES on diabetic cardiomyopathy, and the possible mechanisms. Therefore, a single dose of streptozotocin was used to induce diabetes in Wister rats. Diabetic rats were immediately treated with low, medium and high doses of TASAES at 4.9, 9.8 mg/kg and 19.6 mg/kg body weight by gavage, respectively, for eight weeks. Cardiac function was evaluated by in situ hemodynamic measurements, and patch clamp for the L-type Ca2+ channel current (ICa2+-L) and transient outward K+ channel current (Ito). Histopathological changes were observed under light and electron microscope. The expression of pro-fibrotic factor, connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) was monitored using immunohistochemistry staining. Compared with diabetic group, medium and high doses, but not low dose, of TASAES showed a significant protection against diabetes-induced cardiac dysfunction, shown by increased absolute value of left ventricular systolic pressure (LVSP) and maximum rates of pressure development (+/-dp/dt(max)), and enhanced amplitude of ICa2+-L (P < 0.05). Histological staining indicated a significant inhibition of diabetes-caused pathological changes and up-regulation of CTGF expression (P < 0.05). The results suggest that TASAES prevents diabetes-induced cardiac dysfunction and pathological damage through up-regulating ICa2+-L in cardiac cells and decreasing CTGF expression.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the state of Th1/Th2 cytokine imbalance in patients with lupus nephritis (LN) and its role in the pathogenesis. Methods Plasma level of interleukin-18 and interleukin-13 in 18 patients with active LN and 16 normal controls were measured by enzyme-linked immunoadsordent assay (ELISA). IL-18 and IL-13 expression in the renal tissues from 18 patients and 6 normal renal tissues were also detected by immunohistochemical assay. The ratio of plasma and renal IL-18/IL-13 was then calculated. Results Plasma levels and renal expression of IL-13 and IL-18 in patients with LN were increased significantly compared to those of normal controls (P0.05). The ratio of renal IL-18/IL-13 was not significantly different among all types of LN and normal controls. The ratio of plasma IL-18/IL-13 was positively correlated with LN renal tissue activity index (AI), but no correlationship could be found in renal IL-18/IL-13 ratio. Conclusion It seems that the immune disturbance in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) can not be simply divided into Th1 predominant and Th2 predominant. It seems far complicated than this Th1/Th2 paradigm. It may be affected by the state of disease activity, the lesion location and the type of pathology.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To explore the influence of ginsenoside Rh 2 on cultured PC-3M cell cycle in vitro . METHODS: DNA content was measured using -TdR incorporation assay. To analysis the cycle changes of PC-3M cells, flow cytometry was used in the experiment.RESULTS: The results indicated that the rate of -TdR incorporation was lower in Rh 2-treated cells than the control in a dose-dependent manner. Flow cytometry demonstrated that the pecent of G 1 phase treated with Rh 2 was higher than that of control. CONCLUSION: These results suggested that PC-3M cells cultured with Rh 2 for 24 h were blocked at G 1 phase, and Rh 2 inhibited the growth of PC-3M cells in vitro .

ABSTRACT

AIM: To investigate the effects of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) on the expression of plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) in rat mesangial cells and its relationship with extracellular matrix accumulation. METHODS: Rat mesangial cells were treated with AGE-modified bovine serum albumin or native bovine serum albumin. Normal mesangial cells without any treatments were used as control. Fibronectin (FN), collagen Ⅳ, PAI-1 protein contents were detected by ELISA. PAI-1 mRNA was analyzed by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). RESULTS: AGEs (0-200 mg/L) did not influence mesangial cells proliferation, but stimulated FN , collagen IV and PAI-1 contents in mesangial cell cultured medium in different degrees. AGEs also increased PAI-1 mRNA expression. CONCLUSION: AGEs increase the expression of PAI-1 in rat mesangial cells. AGEs may reduce ECM degradation through increasing PAI-1 expression, which may be one of the mechanisms of ECM accumulation in diabetic nephropathy.
