ABSTRACT

100 cases of Amoebic Liver Abscess with age ranging from 20 years to 70 years have been treated over a period of 5 years. Amoebic Liver abscess was found in 8% cases of amoebic colitis. Interesting clinical observations were, afebrile presentation in 14% and jaundice in only 9% cases. In most cases liver function tests were of no significance. Hepatic scan was useful diagnostic aid. Peritoneal rupture occurred in only five cases. Open Drainage was indicated if response to anti-amoebic therapy and aspiration failed or if secondary infection SUPERVENED. As such surgical open Drainage was our main approach in these cases

The data covering symptoms, preoperativc diagnosis, surgical treatment and prognosis were analysed and compared to the similar data in the literature. Both the results and the reasons for high mortality rate were discussed and importance of early diagnosis is stressed

ABSTRACT

The exact incidence of herniation through diaphragm is difficult to assess. If oesophageal Hiatal Hernia is excluded, a diaphragmatic Hernia in a child is usually through Foramen of Bochdalek on left side. The Foramen of morgagni is involved much less frequently. The commonest and most important type of Diaphragmatic Hernia is through the patent pleureperitonial canal [Bochdalek]. This causes trouble on the left side more often than on the right, where the liver blocks off all but large hernias. This paper is a report of two cases with delayed onset type of Hernia which were repaired surgically after confirmation of diagnosis

ABSTRACT

Achalasia of the cardia is an uncommon neuromuscular disorder originally described by Willis in 1972. Ernst Hellar performed the 1st successful cardiomyotomy for this condition on 14th April, 1913 by performing only anterior myotomy. Zaaijer modification of Hellers procedure is most often performed today. The results of cardiomyotomy are generally satisfactory but patient might have persistent or recurrent difficulty in swallowing or develop new symptoms of reflex oesophagitis and stricture. We have case reports of two cases where this operation was performed without any of these complication so far

ABSTRACT

Seventy five cases of perforated duodenal ulcer were managed by suture plication alone. Perforated acute ulcers have a better ultimate outlook in terms, of mortality and morbidity as compared with perforated chronic ulcers. It is suggested that chronic duodenal ulcer cases should have definitive surgery at the time of perforation or soon after the recovery, whereas acute ulcers should be primarily managed by suture plication alone. Where dyspeptic symptoms persist for more than 3 months in acute ulcers after suture plication difinitive surgery must be done at the earliest opportunity

ABSTRACT

This is a case report of Adreno-Genital Syndrome in an adult women. In adult women the cause may be hyperplasia or a tumour. The only clinical features were hirsutism and enlargement of clitoris. The laboratory tests were done confirm these changes, I.V.P. recognized the site and side of tumor which was removed surgically. There was an unnecessary delay in the treatment of this case which affected her prognosis. The tumors can be malignant, but in this case it was benign. When hirsutism occurs and it is accompanied by virilism, it should be investigated[4]
