ABSTRACT

Objective: To describe the usefulness of islanded greater palatine artery flap for repair of anterior oronasal fistula

Study design: Descriptive case series

Place and Duration of study: Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department, Bahawal Victoria Hospital, Bahawalpur, from January2013 to January 2015

Methodology: Five patients were selected for the study who had history of cleft palate repair. Selection was based on location and size of fistula and amount of residual palatal mucosa. Assessment was done for postoperative wound complications, postoperative speech and swallowing and donor site morbidity

Results: All the patients underwent islanded greater palatine artery flap. One patient was operated with bilateral islanded flaps. Postoperative diet started between 1[st] to 3[rd] day [mean 2 days]. Patients were discharged on 3[rd] -5[th] [mean 4[th] day] postoperative day without any postoperative donor site or recipient site complications. Donor site re-epithelialized within 4 weeks in all patients

Conclusion: The islanded greater palatine artery flap offers a reliable method of primary reconstruction of anterior oronasal defects

ABSTRACT

Study was conducted to observe the relationship of ions with lipid profile and protein content of hypertensive patients. Lipid profile, ions and serum and urinary proteins were studied in patients with hypertension and compared with normal subjects. Serum cholesterol, triglyceride and LDL-chol were significantly increased, whereas the level of HDL-cholesterol was significantly decreased in patients as compared to their controls. Serum calcium was increased, whereas the level of serum magnesium was decreased as compared to control subjects. Serum protein level is non significantly decreased whereas serum albumin and urinary protein decreased significantly. Beside lipid profile, there may be a role of ions like calcium and magnesium as will as of protein in hypertension

ABSTRACT

A number of risk factors and nutritional requirement of the elderly people are discussed. It is observed that there is unawareness of nutritive value of the diet that the subject consumed. The reason may be that there is no media which teach public, the importance of proper nutrition for optimal health. This is the reason that people after the age of 50 get different diseases like diabetes, hypertension, and Ischemic heart disease. A sample menu for the elderly person is suggested that may be easily digestible and provide the required amount of calories for the body

ABSTRACT

25 patients of Subarachnoid Haemorrhage between the ages of 39 to 70 years were studied over a period of 3 years [Jan, 1998 to Dec, 2001] out of which 92% patients had classical Subarachnoid Haemorrhage on CT and 8% did not show any definite SAH. CT scan is quite helpful in Subarachnoid Haemorrhage diagnosis and there after the proper management of the disease.
