ABSTRACT

To find endometrial lesions in women with abnormal uterine bleeding [AUB]. Seven hundred and ten women having abnormal uterine bleeding were included in the study. Histopathological examination of the endometrial biopsy specimen was carried out to find the causes of abnormal uterine bleeding. Out of 710 cases, 520 cases had organic lesion of endometrium while 190 cases had no organic lesion of endometrium. We found endometritis in 402 cases [77.3%]; endometrial hyperplasia in 17 cases [3.2%]; polyps in 27 cases [5.2%]; Decidual tissue in 50 cases [9.6%] and placental tissue in [17 cases 3.2%]. In 5 cases of post menopausal bleeding, 3 had atrophic endometritis and 2 cases had endometrial carcinoma. In premenopausal period common causes of AUB are infections of endometrium, polyps, hyperplasia and abortions. In post menopausal period atrophic senile endometritis and carcinomas are causes for abnormal bleeding

ABSTRACT

The effect of alkali [Sodium Bicarbonate] on metastatic calcification produced by Hypervitaminosis D [ergocalciferol] was studied in rats. Six organs e.g. kidneys, heart, lungs, stomach, aorta and liver of the rats were examined for evidence of calcification. Six out of ten rats receiving vitamin D alone and seven out of ten rats receiving vitamin D and sodium - bicarbonate in combination, showed clacification of various organs. There was no significant difference in the amount and distribution of calcification between the two groups, except in the lungs where calcification was more severe in the animals receiving alkali along with vitamin D
