ABSTRACT

Infertility leads to sexual dissatisfaction in women who believe that their inability to conceive have serious negative effects on their life, particularly their sexual relations. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of counseling on sexual satisfaction among infertile women referred to Tehran Fertility Center. It is a controlled clinical trial. One hundred infertile women were recruited in the study using convenience sampling method. Then they were randomly allocated in case and control groups. Data were gathered in two phases: before the intervention and 3 month after the intervention. The intervention group participated in two-hour counseling sessions for about 2 weeks. Data were collected using a 2-sectioned questionnaire; including demographic characteristics, and sexual satisfaction questions. Data were analyzed using X[2], Mann Whitney U, and Willcoxon statistical tests. Results showed that there was no statistically significant difference between two groups in sexual satisfaction before the intervention [P = 0.401]. There was significant difference between two groups 3 months after the intervention [P = 0.019]. Also, there was significant difference between women's sexual satisfaction in the counseling group before and 3 month after the intervention [P = 0.002]. Sexual counseling improves sexual satisfaction of infertile women

ABSTRACT

Despite the importance of functional-performance deficits in athletes with history of ankle sprain few, studies have been carried out in this area. The aim of this research was to study relationship between previous ankle sprains and functional-performance deficits in athletes. The subjects were 40 professional athletes selected through random sampling among volunteer participants in soccer, basketball, volleyball and handball teams of Lorestan province. The subjects were divided into 2 groups: Injured group [athletes with previous ankle sprains] and healthy group [athletes without previous ankle sprains]. In this descriptive study we used Functional-performance tests [figure 8 hop test and side hop test] to determine ankle deficits and limitations. They participated in figure 8 hop test including hopping in 8 shape course with the length of 5 meters and side hop test including 10 side hop repetitions in course with the length of 30 centimeters. Time were recorded via stopwatch. After data gathering and assessing information distributions, Pearson correlation was used to assess relationships, and independent T test to assess differences between variables. Finally the results showed that there is a significant relationship between previous ankle sprains and functional-performance deficits in the athletes. The athletes who had previous ankle sprains indicated functional-performance deficits more than healthy athletes in completion of mentioned functional-performance tests. The functional-performance tests [figure 8 hop test and side hop test] are sensitive and suitable to assess and detect functional-performance deficits in athletes. Therefore we can use the figure 8 hop and side hop tests for goals such as prevention, assessment and rehabilitation of ankle sprains without spending too much money and time

ABSTRACT

Hypertension as a community health problem, showing an increasing trend in many parts of the world. Controlling the disease depends on knowledge, attitude and practice [KAP] of general physicians as the main health providers in the community. In this study, the impact of KAP of general physicians on hypertension, as the first line of treatment of hypertension was evaluated. In a cross-sectional study, 300 general physicians working in health and treatment sectors of Fars Province, southern Iran were entered in our study and their KAP were determined utilizing a validated and reliable questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of 52 items incorporated in four sections. The mean age of general physicians was 38.2 +/- 3.6 years. 64.2%, 20.3%, and 26.5% of general physicians were visited by four to eight, more than eight, and less than four hypertensive patients per week respectively. Although 99% of physicians believed in the importance of hypertension as a community health problem, but 12% had requested for appropriate paraclinical tests and 20% could handle hypertensive patients properly. Only 45% of physicians had measured their own blood pressure within the last year of practice. Scientific meetings and educational programs were more important than information provided by drug companies and journals in promotion of knowledge, attitude and practice of general physicians. Since the physician's knowledge, attitude and practice are important issues in controlling and prevention of hypertension, promotion of their knowledge on hypertension seems necessary in prevention of subsequent complications

ABSTRACT

The Conventional treatment for neonatal immune hemolytic disease is, phototherapy and blood exchange transfusion. The aim of this study was to determine the efficasy of multiple dose of IVIG in reducing the need for exchange transfusion and phototherapy in hemolytic jaundice of newborn. The study was performed at NICU of Ghaem Hospital as a case - control study, over a period of one year [oct 2002-oct 2003]. Patients with ABO and RH incompatibility, proven by significant hyperbilirubinemia [Bill>8mg/dl at 12hr of age], positive direct or indirect comb's, and no other Risk factors, like sepsis and G6PD deficiency or early familial icterus, were randomly assigned to receive either conventional intensive phototherapy alone or phototherapy with IVIG 0.5gr/kg every 12hr for three times. Exchange transfusion was performed if billirubin exceded more than 20mg/dl. A total of 34 newborn infants were included in the study. There was no significant difference between two groups, with respect to birth weight, postnatal age, sex, bilirubin, hematocrit, or reticulocite count. The number of exchange transfusion, duration of phototheray and hospitalization, were significantly lower in IVIg treatment group than control one. Adverse effects were not observed during IVIG treatment. IVIG therapy is a safe treatment for newborns with hemolytic jaundice and Reduces exchange transfusion
