ABSTRACT

Michael addition reaction of the 2-amino-1,3,4-thiadiazole to chalcone as biselectrophile - afforded 5,7-diphenyl-6-[1,3-diphenylpropan-1-on-3-yl][l,3,4]thiadiazolo[3,2-[a]pyrimidine [3] instead of 5,7-diphenyl-5H-[l,3,4]thiadiazolo[3,2-a]pyrimidine [5] via further Michael addition at C[5] in pyrimidine moiety. The structure 3 was established through the aspect of ab initio calculations, elemental analysis and spectral data

ABSTRACT

The incidence of dysphagia was reported in up to 35% of goiter patients with mild to moderate severity. Pharyngo-esophageal manometry is a diagnostic test that provides both quantitative and qualitative assessment of pressure, coordination and motility for both the pharynx and esophagus

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to assess Early and long-term outcome of intracoronary stent implantation for the treatment of acute coronary syndromes. Stenting has historically been contraindicated in thrombus containing lesion because of the risk of subacute thrombosis. With advance in stent implantation technique, and the recognition of the importance of adequate platelet inhibition, the incidence of subacute thrombosis has progressively fallen despite stenting in increasingly complex subset, inducing acute coronary syndromes and thrombus lader lesions. 50 patients with acute coronary syndromes who underwent coronary stenting where included in the study. According to medical history, resting 12 leads ECG, and serum cardiac enzymes, they were divided into 3 groups; the Q-wave Ml group, the non Q-Wave MI group, and the unstable angina group. All patients were treated with Aspirin, Ticlopidine and Heparin regimen. Through out the study period, 60 stents were successfully implanted in 50 patients [100%] success rate], with TIMI grade 3 restored in the whole study population. During hospitalization and at I month follow-up, there was no death, Q-wave MI or emergency CABG in the 3 groups. There was no major vascular complication but minor bleeding occurred in 16%. Late clinical follow up at a mean follow-up period of 6.3 +/- 1.02 months post coronary stenting showed that there was no death but there was 6% rate of Q-MI, 8% of elective bypass surgery and 8% repeated PCI for stented segments and 6%for non stented segment follow-up angiogram at a mean follow-up time of 6.1 +/- 0.5 stent restenosis rate was 19%. Stent implantation in acute coronary syndromes is associated with excellent early clinical outcome and good long-term results

ABSTRACT

Hepatitis B infection is a serious health problem throughout the world. Success in the prevention of this disease with its fatal consequences depends to a large extent on the adolescents level of knowledge and their awareness about it. As well as their attitude and different risk behavior they might practice at this age. The aim of the present study was to assess the secondary school students level of knowledge about hepatitis B and to record their perceptions, attitudes and practices towards it. Also to identify their health locus of control towards the disease. The studied sample included 643 students of both sexes representing different senior levels in one educational sector in Alexandria. The used technique was self-administered questionnaire. Results revealed that [55. 2%] of the studied sample had fair level of knowledge about hepatitis B Girls had more negative attitude towards the disease than boys. About one half of the students [50.4%] were not vaccinated against the disease. Also, the majority of students had internal health locus of control regarding hepatitis B. It is recommended to integrate knowledge about hepatitis B within formal and informal school programs. Community campaigns for vaccinating the adolescents against the disease should be carried out

ABSTRACT

We reveiwed 155 patients with isolated meniscal lesions after arthroscopic partial meniscectomy [3]. 129 patients were male and 26 patients were female with a mean age of 29 year. Satisfactory results were obtained in 92% of cases, while 5% had fair results and only 3% had poor results. On the basis of these findings, we strongly recommended performing arthroscopic patial meniscectomy as early as possible in symptomatic lesions with careful evaluation of older patients

ABSTRACT

Children with congenital atresia of the external auditory canal require an early assessment of hearing and a determination of the degree of atresia and associated pathology by ABR, and C.T. scanning. We have done eleven ears with congenital meatal atresia at Ismailia University Hospital during the period from November 1993 until June 1997. Five females and three males; five out of the eight patients presented with unilateral atresia and three with bilateral The mean age was [ +/- 8.7] years. The second ear in the bilateral cases were done 6-9 months after the first ear. We had no facial injuries in our series, but in one of the cases, the chorda tympani was injured accidentally. Three cases developed granulations in the external canal with some degree of meatal stenosis

ABSTRACT

Reproductive health [RH] programs are increasingly aware of young adults needs. Success in implementing such programs in schools depends largely on adequate teachers' training. The aim of the present study was to identify teachers' knowledge about RH as well as their opinions and perceptions about teaching RH in schools. The studied sample included 432 teachers of both sexes representing different educational levels in three educational sectors in Alexandria. The techniques used were self-administered questionnaire and group discussion. Results revealed that about half of the sample had not heard about the synonym RH before [50.5%] and had poor knowledge about RH [49.1%]. Teachers' qualification, years of experience and type of teaching subject significantly affected their knowledge level. After discussing the concept of RH with the teachers, the great majority perceived importance of RH education and agreed that RH must be taught to their own children in schools. Schools were cited on the top of second preferred sources giving RH information to youth. The majority of the teachers suggested that all RH topics should be incorporated in the future school curriculum. About two-thirds of the sample showed positive attitude towards attending RH training courses. Also, nearly half of the sample expressed high perceived barriers for teaching RH in schools. It is recommended to integrate different topics of RH within formal and informal school programs. Preservice and inservice training of teachers about RH should be earned out

ABSTRACT

Fifteen case were collected from Ain Shams University hospital representing different manifestations of persistent hyaloid vascular system within 5 years. Different manifestations were found, ranging from small arteriovenous loop, up to definite leucocoria. A study of the embryology of hyaloid artery is presented, as well as, enumeration of the common findings in this anomaly with their clinical importance

ABSTRACT

The body weight and stature of 1038 clinically normal adult Egyptian females aged 17-21 years were measured and recorded in order to find out an up-to-date average optimum reference for this sector of the population. For every subject, the weight per stature, weight per stature in square meters and stature per cubic root of weight were calculated
