ABSTRACT

Spiritual intelligence offer adaptation, internal and external integrity, environmental harmony and problem solving. The medical students are potential workforce of future in medical and caring areas; hence it is essential to assess the spiritual intelligence in this group of academics to improve the quality of clinical care. The aim of the study was to investigate correlation of spiritual intelligence with some of demographic and educational factors among the students of Golestan University of Medical Sciences. This descriptive correlational study was conducted in 2011 on 282 medical and paramedical students of the university who entered the study through simple random sampling. The data gathered by a demographic questionnaire and "Spiritual Intelligence Questionnaire" that cover four main domains "general thoughts and beliefs", "ability of dealing with problems", "spiritual traits", "self- awareness and compassion". The validity of questionnaire was confirmed with criterion- related validity and the reliability of questionnaire was obtained with alpha Cronbach coefficient of 0.85. The data was analyzed with SPSS /16 using descriptive and analytical statistical tests. [P<0.05] The mean age of the participants was 20.17 +/- 1.70 year old and 76 percent of them were female. The average spiritual intelligence score from 5 likert score in four domains was 106.65 +/- 13.93 from 222. The mean and standard deviation of each four domain respectively; in "general thoughts and beliefs" was 2.13 +/- 0.56, in "ability of dealing with problems" was 2.90 +/- 0.62, in "spiritual traits" had value of 2.20 +/- 0.45 and finally in "self-awareness and compassion" standard deviation was 2.59 +/- 0.64. Although the average spiritual intelligence score in male students [2.58 +/- 0.36] was slightly higher than the one in female students [2.51 +/- 0.28], however this was not statistically significant. There was also no significant correlation between age, sex, marital status, ethnicity, major of study and grade point average with spiritual intelligence. The mean average of spiritual intelligence in "ability of dealing with problems" domain was higher than other domains. The study draws our attention to issue of spiritual intelligence, which is a fundamental concept in delivering comprehensive care

ABSTRACT

Nowadays, LibQual scale as a new tool, measures expectations more efficiently than the traditional ones. The present study aims to compare the viewpoints of students and librarians at Tehran University of Medical Sciences to determine the quality of library services with LibQual model. The present study was an analytical survey. Method. LibQual questionnaire was used for data collection. In this study 231 users and 30 were selected through simple random sampling of the questionnaire was measured by Cranach's Alpha test was used to ensure the reliability of the data gathering tool. Mann-Whitney and Wilcoxon tests were used. The results showed that the users evaluate the current quality of services lower than what the librarians did. This difference of opinion is much more drastic when evaluating the information control subscale. Service superiority gap was estimated to be 2.8 for the overall library services and the said libraries fall fairly short of providing users with the desired level of services. From the users' point of view, the three subscales of LibQual do not have an equal effect on the quality of the provided services whereas the librarians disagree with an equal effectiveness of the subscales. The librarians have a correct understanding of the users' expectations and the gap between the users' expectations and the librarians' perceptions of their needs and demands was very small [0.18]. This study showed that LibQual as a model of evaluating the quality of services could help in providing information that facilitates the improvement of planned services at Tehran University of Medical Scien ces libraries. By providing the necessary facilities and services to users, librarians can offer services to users with known expectations and needs. Therefore, if there are shortcomings in the quality of services, it is not because librarians are unaware of the users' needs, but rather lack of necessary facilities might be the reason

ABSTRACT

Considering high prevalence of addiction, the age range of drug abuse and availability of new synthetic drugs, evaluation of knowledge of adolescents about drugs would be a priority in research. In this descriptive cross-sectional study, 517 rural high school students were asked to complete a questionnaire and through SPSS software version 13, collected data was analyzed by chi-square and analysis of variance tests. 7.1% of rural families with at least one boy in high school had an addict family member. 70.2% of high school students had had a contact with an addict and 42.5% knew an adolescent addict. Also, 17.5% had been offered drugs and 37.9% of high school students claimed that there was at least one addict in their family or relations. Considering the frequency of addiction in families and rate of invitation to drug abuse in students, there is a high risk of increment of addiction in high schools and therefore real and urgent need to do an intervention
