ABSTRACT

The chelation of 18 arylidene derivatives of 3-hydroxy-2-naphthoic hydrazide with Ti4+, ZrO2+, Th4+ and UO2+2 ions were investigated. The stoichiometry of the chelates was determined by means of conductometric titration. The electronic absorption, IR-spectra, elemental analysis and DTA were used to characterize the chelates. The stepwise formation constants pK of the chelates as well as the proton reagent ionization constants pKH of the ligands were determined using potentiometric titration. The values are commented upon in the light of molecular structure of the ligands

ABSTRACT

The formation of complexes of Co [II], Ni [II] and Cu [II] with o-carboxyphenylazosalicylaldehyde are studied by potential-metric and conductometric titrations. The stoichiometry of complexes are also studied by spectrophotometry. The proton-reagent stability constant and conditional formation constant are determined. DTA and ir spectra are also used to study the binuclear complexes formed. The results show that the ligand in the case of the binuclear metal chelates functions as a dibasic tetradentate group
