ABSTRACT

In this study eighteen psoriatic patients were treated by various lines of therapy [local keratolytic, systemic methotrexate and radiotherapy] in order to evaluate the pathological changes in psoriasis under different therapies by cell counting study pre - and post-treatment. It was found that there were insignificant statistical difference in the different type of cells before and after using local therapy, while, there were statistical significant reduction in the percentage of mitotic cells after methotrexate. Also, there were very highly significant and highly significant reduction in the percentage of mitotic and resting cells respectively after radiotherapy. While, there was very highly significant statistical increase in the percentage of degenerating cells after radiotherapy

ABSTRACT

This work is a retrospective study of 90 patients with thyroid cancer in the Radiotherapy Department of Mansoura University Hospital during the period 1973-1986 inclusive. This study included analysis of epidemiological features, clinical presentation, different types of investigation, lines of treatment and survival. It was found that the relative frequency of thyroid cancer to all malignancy recorded during the same period was 1.7% with male to female of 1: 1.4 and peak age incidence in the sixth decade of life. Papillary carcinoma constituted 34.6% of the total thyroid cancer, while follicular carcinoma represented 21.3%, mixed 12%, medullary 6.7% and anaplastic 25.3%. Lymph node metastases were common than distant metastases in all pathological subtypes except in follicular carcinoma. Patients who have received postoperative iodine or external irradiation therapy showed statistically significant decrease in the rate of recurrence in the well differentiated carcinoma than using surgical treatment alone. Well differentiated cancer showed good life span, however anaplastic and medullary carcinoma showed short life span

ABSTRACT

78 cases of haemangioma in different sites were treated in the last five years in surgery and Radiotherapy departments in Mansuora University Hospital. They were 68 cases of skin and 10 cases were vertibral haemangioma. In the last complete neurologincal examination and radiological invistigation were done. Treatment method advocated was ethanolamin injection [46 cases], surgical excision with or without grafting [8 cases] and radiotherapy [24 cases]. The latter treatment was given either primarily or after lamenectomy and biopsy of the vertibral haemangioma. Most of the leases were followed up for two years and showed good response denoting the value of radiotherapy in the treatment of vertibral haemangioma in particular. Surgery and intralesional injection of sclerosing agent were also mentioned as lines of treatment of choisce in haemangioma affecting the skin
