Locomotor disorders in printing industry

Low back pain, shoulder and neck pain and arthritis are the most common complaint among workers in printing industry. This study have been done among workers in printing industry in El-Ahram and Cairo University. A sheet have been taken, all workers are examined clinically and an X-ray was done for complaining ones. The total number of workers was 2850, 488 were complaing of locomotor disorders: 312 [low back pain], 54 [neck and shoulder pain], 183 [joint pain]. Locomotor disorders increase with age, duration of employment, increase in number of dependents, among skilled and unskilled workers, smokers and ex-smokers. Low back ain, and arthritis were more common among females. Low back pain was common among managers, accountants and unskilled workers

Liver involvement in munition workers due to multiple chemical exposure

73 male workers in the explosive industry were examined clinically; laboratory investigations were done detect liver affection. SGOT, SGPT and alkaliue phosphatase were found significantly high [p < 0.001]. The serum protein and albumin were decreased while alpha 1, alpha 2 and gama globulin were increased and these were statistically significant. Lead and copper were increased while iron and zinc were decreased and these also were statistically significant. These findings indicate liver affection which can be attributed to exposure to T. N. T. glycol derivarives, organic solvents and lead stearate. Regarding the neurological effects, the salient features were peripheral neuritis, muscle weakness and headache
