ABSTRACT

The present study aims to investigate the impact of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy on mental and physical well-being indicators in diabetic patients. In the present study is that of experimental, all women with type 2 diabetes in Yazd Diabetes Research Centre were considered as statistical community from which 80 women were selected by random sampling. They completed questionnaire of Problem Areas In Diabetes and diabetes-dependent quality of life questionnaire and then were introduced to lab for blood test. Data was analyzed by SPSS-18 software using t-test for separate groups. Statistical analysis showed that the scores of experimental group on quality of life and diabetes related stress were significantly lower in post-test compared to pre-test. Moreover, experimental group and control group showed a significant difference in these variables in pre-test and post-test. Also HbA1c level had a significant decrease in post-test of experimental group compared to pre-test of this group. This difference was observed in control group too. The results showed that mindfulness-based cognitive therapy has positive effects on glycemic control in diabetic patients and leads to well-being and a better quality of life in those patients

ABSTRACT

Background: gastrointestinal disorders are common complaints for which endoscopy is one of the most important diagnostic procedures. Anxiety is an unpleasant, ambiguous feeling of apprehension and fear of an unknown origin that occurs during anxious and previously stressful situations or during an injury. Lack of sufficient information and fear of pain can cause anxiety prior to an endoscopy, reducing the trend of patients and increasing the endoscopy time. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of various teaching methods [oral, written, oral-written] on patient anxiety prior to an endoscopy

Materials and Methods: this was a case-control study that enrolled 100 patients, 18-80 years of age, who had at least reading and writing literacy. Patients who referred to a specialized clinic at Tabriz University of Medical Sciences for their first endoscopy between Decembers to March 2011 were selected. We randomly divided patients into four groups [oral, written, oral written teaching, and control] after their first anxiety assessment with the Beck questionnaire. The information was given to patients by the investigator using the training packages. The next day, 30 minutes prior to the endoscopy, patients completed another Beck Anxiety questionnaire and the effectiveness of the different methods was evaluated

Results: mean anxiety scores decreased in all three teaching groups after intervention, which was statistically significant compared with the control group [p<0.001].The difference in anxiety scores between the teaching groups [written, oral, oral-written] was not statistically significant [p<0.32]

Conclusion: the provision of adequate information to patients about the endoscopy procedure, independent of the teaching method, can reduce patient anxiety

ABSTRACT

Motivational interviewing [M.I.] is an option for modifying an individual's behavior. It is used as an educational method in recent years. The aim of our study was to indicate whether or not education, using lecture alone and lecture with M.I., would affect the performance of nursing personnel regarding their hand hygiene. If so, which of these two methods were most effective for this purpose? This was an interventional study conducted in Bahrami Pediatric Hospital in Tehran. The study population consisted of all nursing personnel in the hospital. Considering the responsibilities of different nurses and their educational status, we divided them into three classes. The participants of each class were randomly assigned to either the control or experiment groups training lecture alone or lecture with M.I., respectively. We used Independent-t, Paired-t, Mann-Whitney U and Wilcoxon signed ranks tests for analysis. Education using lecture alone improved the hand hygiene performance of nursing personnel only in the first and third classes [P = 0.002 and P = 0.001, respectively]. Similarly, lecture combined with M.I. improved the hand hygiene performance of personnel in the first and third classes [P < 0.001 and P = 0.004, respectively]. The latter method was more effective compared to lecture alone in the first and third classes [P < 0.001 and P = 0.013, respectively]. Education based on lecturing improves hand hygiene performance among nursing personnel. It will be more effective if combined with M.I

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to compare the early maladaptive schemas and parenting styles among students with love failure, with or without the clinical syndrome. Using purposive sampling and based on Beck Depression Inventory-II [BDI-II], General Health Questionnaire-28 [GHQ-28], and the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory-III [MCMI-III] 30 students with love failure and clinical syndrome and 30 students with love failure and without clinical syndrome were selected from University of Tabriz, and completed Young's Schema Questionnaire-Short Form [YSQ-SF] and Schaefer Family-Parenting Environment [SFPE]. Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of variance [MANOVA]. There was a significant difference between the groups in the early maladaptive schemas and parenting styles [p<0.05]. We can predict the severity of clinical signs in romantic relationship failure on the basis of early maladaptive schemas and family of origin environment and accordingly schema therapy approach can be used in clinical and counseling centers to help these people

ABSTRACT

This study has investigated the predictive value of psychological constructs including stressfulness of life, depression, happiness and social support on the rate of suicidal thoughts in students. The study sample included 1094 boys and girls residing in the Tehran University's student dormitory. The participants completed Suicidal Ideation Scale [SIS], Student Depression Scale [SDS], Student Life Stress Inventory [SLSI], Oxford Happiness Scale [OHS], and Social Support [SS] scale. The statistical data analysis using multiple regression techniques showed that happiness, depression, stress and social support account for 76 percent of the changes in students' suicidal thoughts. In addition, the results showed that depression has the strongest predictive power of suicidal thoughts. Depression and related structural variables could be used for predicting and efficiently identifying students' suicidal thoughts
