ABSTRACT

Post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI) is one of the common complications of stroke, which has a significant impact on the life of patients.Studies have shown that the incidence of PSCI varies from region to region, and is correlated with demographic and vascular risk factors,or is significantly different due to stroke types and characteristics. The specific mechanism of PSCI remains unclear, but early identification of its risk factors is helpful for early intervention. This article reviews the risk factors of PSCI.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the association between impaired fasting glucose (IFG) and cognitive impairment in community elderly residents. Methods A total of ≥60 years old 1223 people were divided into normal fasting glucose (NFG) group (n=981) and IFG group (n=242).Their baseline data were recorded, their cognitive function was assessed according to the MMSE score. Results The education level,BMI,serum FBG,TG,LDL-C levels, incidence of hypertension and hyperlipidemia were significantly higher while the serum HDL-C level was significantly lower in IFG group than in NFG group (P<0.05,P<0.01).The incidence of cognitive impairment was significantly higher while the score of MMSE,orientation, attention and calculation, immediate recall and language was significantly lower in IFG group than in NFG group (40.50% vs 21.51%,24.76±5.38 vs 26.60±4.26,9.07±1.81 vs 9.48±1.15,3.39±2.00 vs 3.88±1.81,2.93±0.41 vs 2.98±0.24,6.74±1.51 vs 7.18±1.15,P<0.01).Age,female sex,LDL-C and IFG were risk factors for cognitive impairment in the elderly (P<0.01,P<0.05) while the education level was a protective factor for cognitive impairment in the elderly (P=0.000).Conclusion IFG is an independent risk factor for cognitive impairment in the elderly.Early diagnosis and intervention can improve cognitive function in the elderly.

ABSTRACT

Hypertension is one of the most important diseases that threaten human health, and has become a global problem. In recent years, the prevalence of hypertension in children has increased significantly year by year, and hypertension in children has a trajectory phenomenon, which is easy to cause cognitive damage and other target organ damage. Therefore, it is necessary to be alert and attached to the relationship between hypertension and cognitive impairment in children. This article reviews the epidemiological characteristics, etiology, diagnostic criteria of hypertension and pathophysiological mechanisms of cognitive impairment caused by hypertension in children.

ABSTRACT

To enrich the resource pool of endophytic fungi from plants which produce taxol, a taxol-producing endophytic fungus TMS-26 was isolated from the stem of Taxus Media. The result of high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) showed that TMS-26 extract exhibited similar chromatographic peaks and retention time (4.545 min) with authentic taxol. Then mass spectrometry (MS) analysis further confirmed that TMS-26 extracts contained the same mass peaks with authentic taxol ((M+Na)+=876). These indicated that the isolated endophytic fungus TMS-26 can produce taxol. According to the morphological characteristics, the molecular analysis of 18S rDNA and internal transcribed spacer nuclear rDNA gene sequence, the fungus was identified as Aspergillus fumigatus TMS-26.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the effect of salidroside (Sal) on learning and memory abilities and expression of p75NTR signal transducers and Aβ in AD rat hippocampus. Methods Totally,ninety-six male SD rats were randomly divided into sham-operation group, model control group,Sal low, medium and high dose group,Hup-A group (16 rats in each group).Except for sham-operation group,AD model in the other group was established by slowly injecting 1μL(10 μg)Aβ1-40 in tobilateral hippocampal CA1 area.Sham-operation group was given the same volume of 0.9% sodium chloride solution.Sal low, medium and high dose group took orally as early as 24 h postoperatively with salidroside 25,50,100 mg· kg-1 for 21days,while Hup-A group took 50 mg kg-1 of Hup-A orally. The same volume of 0.9% sodium chloride solution was administrated in shanmoperation group and model control group. After administration, the learning and memory function of rats were tested by Morris water maze. The contents of Aβ in serum and hippacampus were determined by ELISA,and protein expression of p75NTR and p-JNK in the hippocampus of the rats were measured by ELISA.Results Compared with model control group, the latent time in water maze training of Sal low, medium and high dose groups were significantly shortened (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01),the number of times of crossing platform of Sal low, medium and high dose group was significantly increased. The contents of Aβ in the hippocampus and the protein expression levels of p75NTR and p-JNK in the hippocampus of Sal low, medium and high dose group were decreased significantly (P < 0.05,P < 0.01).Conclusion Salidroside has protective effects on learning and memory consolidation of dysmnesia rats caused by Aβ.Its mechanism might be related to inhibition of p75NTR regulation pathways for Aβ,reducing the neurotoxic effect of Aβ,so as to reduce cell apoptosis of hippocampus neuron.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the safety of basillixirnab in pediatric liver transplantation (PLT).Methods Retrospectively,256 cases (hospitalized from Jan.2014 to Dec.2015) were divide into groups in terms of inclusion and exclusion criteria.A group of 137 children transplanted under tacrolimus-steroid as baseline immunosuppressants combined with basilliximab induction (basilliximab group),and a group of 84 PLT recipients were treated with a tacrolimus-steroid regimen (control group) were set up.Two groups were compared regarding rejection incidence, infectious complications,as well as the kidney function and electrolyte within the three months after operations. Results Infectious complications and rejection incidence were 32.8% and 8.3% in basilliximab group, versus 27.4% and 14.3% in control group (all P>0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in the levels of blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, calcium, potassium and phosphate between two groups. Conclusion Although basilliximab may decrease the rejection incidence, the effect is not significant. The main reason may be the small sample size, and further observation is still needed.
