ABSTRACT

Purpose@#The purpose of this study is to identify the interpersonal relationship competence level of depressive disorder patients and to analyze the correlation among factors determining support, and resilience, and how such factors might affect interpersonal relationship competence of depressive disorder patients. @*Methods@#This study included 137 patients with depressive disorder at the Gyeonggi-do hospital who consented to participate. Data were collected from September, 2019 to June, 2020. Descriptive analysis, t-test, Cronbach's coefficient, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression were conducted using SPSS 24.0 program. @*Results@#The interpersonal relationship competence of patients with depressive disorder showed positive correlations with self-esteem, family support, and resilience. The factor affecting interpersonal relationship competence of patients with depressive disorder was resilience (β=.52, p<.001), and the overall explanatory power of this factor was 28%. @*Conclusion@#This study showed that resilience was an important variable which influenced interpersonal relationship competence of patients with depressive disorder. To enhance the interpersonal relationship competence of patients with depressive disorder, it is necessary to develop and implement training programs which would enhance resilience and educational programs in order to help patients with depressive disorder increase interpersonal relationship competence.

ABSTRACT

Latent tuberculosis (TB) infections (LTBI) impose clinical challenges in terms of the diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), especially in TB-endemic areas. While steroids and biologics have become increasingly useful in the treatment of patients with moderate-to-severe IBD, the risk of reactivation or developing TB is increased due to their potent immunosuppressive effects. Tumor necrosis factor-alpha inhibition may result in the activation of a latent TB infection, and most cases manifest as more severe forms of disseminated TB. All potential users of immunosuppressive therapy should be screened for LTBI, and appropriate measures for the management of latent and active TB should be undertaken with immediate initiation of anti-TB treatment. Biologics should be withheld during TB treatment, and the proper timing for the resumption of IBD therapy during or after TB treatment should be individualized. This review summarizes the latest knowledge on the risk assessment, detection, and management of latent and active TB infections in patients with IBD.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identify factors related to family health and develop a prediction model with an ability to explain family health in families of patients with schizophrenia.METHODS: A hypothesized model with twelve pathway forms was developed based on literature review. Family stress and social stigma were included as two exogenous variables; whereas family resilience, family empowerment, self-esteem, community integration, and family health were included as endogenous variables. Data were collected using a self-report questionnaire from 206 families of patients with schizophrenia living in Republic of Korea. Data were analyzed with PASW/WIN 18.0 and AMOS 18.0 programs.RESULTS: Social stigma had a negatively indirect and total effect on family health. Family resilience, self-esteem, and community integration had positive and direct and overall effects on family health.CONCLUSION: A prediction model for families of patients with schizophrenia is proposed and social stigma, family resilience, self-esteem, and community integration are presented as predicting factors for family health. Nursing interventions and support programs should be developed to overcome social stigma and improve family resilience, self-esteem, and community integration.
