Cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy in management of peritoneal carcinomatosis: Single center experience in Korea

PURPOSE: Peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC) has been considered a terminal condition and cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (CRS/HIEPC) is regarded as an alternative therapeutic option. This study aimed to evaluate the 30-day clinical outcomes of CRS/HIPEC and the feasibility of the surgery by investigating the morbidity and mortality in Inje University Hospital.METHODS: Data were retrospectively collected from 19 patients with PC who underwent CRS/HIPEC at Inje University Hospital in 2018. We evaluated pre-, intra-operative parameters and postoperative clinical outcomes and early complications.RESULTS: The mean operating time was 506.95 minutes and the mean blood loss was 837.11 mL. Six cases (31.58%) had morbidity of grade III or above. A longer operating time (≥560 minutes, P=0.038) and large blood loss (≥700 mL, P=0.060) were positively correlated with grade III or worse postoperative complications.CONCLUSION: Our early experience with CRS/HIPEC resulted in a 31.58% morbidity rate of grade III and above, with risk factors being longer operating time and greater intraoperative blood loss. As the surgical team's skills improve, a shorter operating time with less intraoperative blood loss could result in better short-term outcomes of CRS/HIPEC.

An experimental study on the effect of hydrocortisone in the fusion mechanism of the secondary palatine shelves in the rat / 대한치과교정학회지

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of hydrocortisone in the fusion mech ani in of the secondary palatine shelves in the tat. Pregnant rats were injected with 5.0 mg/100 gm body weight of hydrocortisone for 3 days between the 7th day and the 9th day of pregnancy. Between the 14th day and the 18 day of pregnancy, the fetuses' were removed and decapitated to be immersed in 10% formalin ,and-Carnoy's solution. Preparations were stained with alizarin red S, hematoxylin-eosin and alcian blue respectively, and partly were treated for Periodic acid-Schiff reaction. The results were as followings: 1. The incomplete fusion of the palatal epithelium took place though the polarity of epithelial cells. 2. At the edge of shelves the differentiation of mesenchymal cells was observed, but the interpenetration of mesenchyme was not shown. 3. It was considered that the phenomenon of hypocalcification in matrix had relation to the decrease stainability to alizarin red S in shelves. 4. It might be concluded that the connective tissue under epithelium showed the decrease tendency to alcian blue and PAS reaction due to the inhibition of the synthesis of the mucopolysaccharide.

A case report of orthodontic treatment of cleft palate accompany teeth congenital missing / 대한치과교정학회지

19 years old female had untreated Veau classification class II cleft palate with ectopic eruption of upper right lateral incisor and congenital missing of lower lateral incisors. Upper left lateral incisor, left first molar aid lower left first molar were root restswithperiapicalpathologiclesions. So all root rests were extracted and prosthodontic rehabilitation after orthodontic treatment was planned. She was treated by means of multibanded system with face bow. After 23 months all orthodontic correction were achieved and, as soos as debanding procedure was done she was referred to oral surgeon and prosthodontist for surgical operation and bridge construction.

A roentgenocephalometric study on the children of normal occlusion in the mixed dentition / 대한치과교정학회지

This study was undertaken to investigate the exact values of the cephalometric standards of Hellman dental age III B groups of Korean in the reontgenocephalometry. The subjects consisted of 25 males and the same number of females with the normal occlusion and acceptable profile. Each lateral cephalometric head film was taken with the teeth in occlusion and the Focal-film distance was 300cm. Their linear and angular measurements were made directly. The following conclusions were obtained; 1) The author made the tables of standard deviation from the measured values. 2) The degree of the facial convexity of Korean children was larger than that of the white. 3) The labial inclination of the lower central incisor in male was a little greater than that in female.
